20090291207GAS-PURGED VACUUM VALVE - A vacuum valve assembly for use in a vacuum processing chamber includes a seat defining an opening in the vacuum valve, with the seat having a sealing face adjacent the opening and normal to the direction of the opening; and a gate having a sealing face adapted to mate with the seat sealing face, the gate being movable toward and away from the seat sealing face to seal and open the vacuum valve opening. A continuous elastomeric seal extends around the vacuum valve opening between the gate sealing face and the seat sealing face of sufficient size such that when the gate is positioned to seal the vacuum valve opening, there exists a gap between the gate sealing face and the seat sealing face. A purge gas port system, disposed in the seat or in the gate, has an inlet for a purge gas, an essentially continuous outlet extending around the vacuum valve opening and adjacent the elastomeric seal and gap, and a manifold system connecting the inlet and the outlet. 20090298388METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CHEMICAL MECHANICAL POLISHING OF LARGE SIZE WAFER WITH CAPABILITY OF POLISHING INDIVIDUAL DIE - A novel polisher for chemical mechanical planarization process is described. The polisher design can have many variations. For process development and consumable evaluation, the CMP process can be performed on a single die or a section of the wafer. The size of testing wafer can be as small as 2″ and as large as 18″. Furthermore, several variations can characterize the slurry for their static etch rate, dynamic etch rate, material removal rate, and viscosity in a single experiment. For production level wafer processing, Chemical Mechanical Polishing of all dies on the wafer surface is achieved by using multi-armed polishing heads or a single polishing head with small piece of a pad at the bottom of the head. The within wafer uniformity can be easily controlled and the equipment can be easily scaled up or down. This inventive design may translate to significant cost reduction for wafer processing at production level as well as evaluation of consumables at research and development level.12-03-2009

20110104201Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Vaccine Based on Isolate JA-142 - Substantially avirulent forms of atypical porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus and corresponding vaccines are provided which result from cell culture passaging of virulent forms of PRRS. The resultant avirulent atypical PRRS virus is useful as a vaccine in that PRRS specific antibody response is elicited by inoculation of host animals, thereby conferring effective immunity against both previously known strains of PRRS virus and newly isolated atypical PRRS virus strains. The preferred passaging technique ensures that the virus remains in a logarithmic growth phase substantially throughout the process, which minimizes the time required to achieve attenuation. The present invention also provides diagnostic testing methods which can differentiate between animals infected with field strains and attenuated strains of PRRSV.05-05-2011

20100193485METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR LASER CUTTING AND PROCESSING TUBING TO MAKE MEDICAL DEVICES - Methods for making devices include providing a tubular member to be formed into a device, placing a removable sacrificial block material in the lumen of the tubular member and laser cutting the tubular member. A doping material can be added to the melted portion of the tubular member to promote the formation of brittle slag. A fixture can be used to hold a cut workpiece in order to ream sacrificial material from the surface of the workpiece. Pressurized gas can be supplied to the inner lumen of the tubular member to cause slag to form on the outside surface, rather than the inner surface, of the tubular member. A tubular member made from nickel-titanium alloy can be tightly adhered to a sacrificial sleeve utilizing the phase changes associated with nickel-titanium. A rotating mandrel can be placed within the lumen of the tubular member during laser cutting. A mandrel which includes an enlarged diameter section causes the workpiece to expand slightly within its elastic deformation range to dislodge islands from the workpiece. Such a mandrel could be formed from a tubular member which has a central lumen that can be used to deliver a pressurized medium to “blast” islands from the workpiece.08-05-2010

20100262344Closed-Loop Torque Phase Control for Shifting Automatic Transmission Gear Ratios Based on Friction Element Load Sensing - A closed loop shift control apparatus and method based on friction element load controls a torque transfer phase when shifting from a low gear configuration to a high gear configuration for an automatic transmission system. When pressure actuated friction elements are selectively engaged and released to establish torque flow paths in the transmission, measurements or estimates of torsional load exerted on the off-going friction element are used to predict the optimal off-going friction element release timing for achieving a consistent shift feel. The ideal timing to release the off-going friction element is uniquely defined when torque load exerted onto the off-going friction element becomes substantially zero. An on-coming clutch engagement process is controlled by a closed loop control based on measurements or estimates of on-coming clutch torque capacity for a constant shift feel under dynamically changing conditions.10-14-2010
