20090218183BRAKE ROTOR AND ABS TONE RING ATTACHMENT ASSEMBLY THAT PROMOTES IN PLANE UNIFORM TORQUE TRANSFER DISTRIBUTION - A brake assembly for use on vehicles includes a rotor having connection tabs and a hub having bobbins, integrally formed or separate, with the rotor connection tabs being positioned between the hub bobbins and clamped together with a top plate. An ABS tone ring is fastened to the hub and is circumscribed by the rotor. Alternatively, an ABS tone ring can be formed as part of the top plate. A spring clip can be used with the top plate to accommodate thermal expansion of the rotor and eliminate rotor rattling. Torque is transferred from the brake rotor to the hub in a common plane to prevent twisting in the fastener connection.09-03-2009

20110094834BRAKE CALIPER WITH BRAKE PAD TIMING AND RETRACTION CONTROLLER - A brake caliper is provided with a timing and retraction controller that that adjusts brake timing, eliminates parasitic brake losses and dampens out-of-plane vibration between the brake pad and rotor. The brake caliper includes a housing disposed over a brake rotor; first and second opposing brake pads extendably and retractably mounted on opposite sides of the caliper housing, brake pistons that extend and retract the brake pads into and out of frictional engagement with the rotor, and brake pad timing and retraction controllers disposed on opposite sides of the caliper housing. Each controller includes a Belleville spring or other resilient member with a short compression travel limited to between about 1.50 mm and 0.025 mm. The short stroke Belleville spring of each controller applies a hold-off force against the extension force of the brake pistons that slightly delays brake pad extension and slightly reduces brake pad clamping force against the rotor, thereby advantageously providing a front wheel braking bias when applied to the rear wheels of a vehicle. The restorative force applied by the short stroke Belleville forcefully and uniformly retracts the brake pad from the rotor, eliminating parasitic brake losses, and dampening out-of-plane vibration between the brake pad and rotor.04-28-2011
20110272227ANTI-LOCK BRAKE DEVICE FOR USE WITH A BRAKE ROTOR DISC - A disc brake assembly includes a rotor with an ABS tone ring insert assembly that functions as a rotation indicator in an anti-lock braking system. The insert is positioned in the hat of a rotor disc in a spaced relationship and is mounted to the mounting flange of the rotor disc. Forming the ring insert separately from the rotor disc also allows different coating materials to be used on the tone ring that may be more heat resistant. The ring insert assembly can be made of powder metal or made as a cast iron cylinder with a toothed cap made of powder metal having a corrosion resistant coating. Cost savings can be realized along with high performance when only a portion of the assembly if made of powder metal and coated.11-10-2011

20100012443 CALIPER MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT - A brake caliper assembly includes a caliper body connected to a torque plate via a mating protrusion and cavity that transfer torque through facing abutment surfaces to reduce twisting of the caliper. The mating protrusion and cavity provide a stiff connection and also allow use of a smaller, lighter connecting bolt. This arrangement eases removal and reinstallation of the caliper.01-21-2010

20090202773Flip-Over Painter's Tape - A painter's tape is formed with a first portion and an adjoining second portion separated by a line of weakness that permits the first and second portions to be physically separated. The painter's tape has a layer of adhesive on one side with a removable protective strip attached to the adhesive layer on the second portion. The tape is folded along the line of weakness and applied to a first surface with the line of weakness defining a paint line between adjacent first and second surfaces. After painting the second surface, the protective strip is removed to expose the adhesive layer on the second portion, which is then flipped over to adhere to the previously painted second surface. The first portion is then removed by separating from the second portion along the line of weakness leaving the second portion to protect the second surface while the first surface is painted.08-13-2009
20110259058Remote Lock Mechanism for Handcuffs and Other Security Devices - A remote lock mechanism for a handcuff allows the unlocking of the handcuff by insertion of the key in the remote lock mechanism. The remote lock mechanism is located adjacent the pivot connecting the movable jaw of the handcuff to the fixed jaw and, thus, can be operated when the handcuffs are used to restrain a person without the officer's hands being placed between the wrists of the person being restrained. The motion corresponding to the rotation of the key in the remote lock mechanism is transferred to the handcuff lock mechanism to retract the ratchet pawl away from the movable jaw of the handcuff. In one embodiment, the remote lock mechanism utilizes a tumbler that causes opposing rotation of the conventional lock mechanism to first release the double lock mechanism and then retract the ratchet pawl with opposing rotations of the key in the remote lock mechanism.10-27-2011
