Light-Activated Switch and Circuit for Select-Fire Perforating Guns - Apparatus and method are provided for selectively firing apparatus in a well when the apparatus is fired by an electrical voltage and produces light upon firing. A photoresistor or other device changes in an electrical property when the light from firing of a section of the apparatus impinges on the photoresistor or other electronic device. The change in electrical property shifts the state of a relay such that the following section of the device can be fired with a voltage of the opposite polarity to that used in firing the preceding section. A test and resetting apparatus for the select-fire apparatus is also provided. | 08-19-2010

Pinch-Induced Behavioral Inhibition in Domestic Cats - A clip device that pinch induces a behavior inhibition response in a mammal by means of two jaws that close to form a skin fold loop. The clips device provides manual scruffing by means of gathering skin between the two jaws such that internal surfaces of the skin structure are in juxtaposition to each other and external surfaces of a mammal's skin are at interfaces to the jaws. The clip device is placed on the mammal's neck region or its tail head at a non-noxious pressure between systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The clip device induces a passive response from a mammal so a procedure can be performed on the mammal with two free hands of a user. | 11-04-2010
RAPID DIAGNOSIS OF A DISEASE CONDITION USING INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY - Reliable and rapid diagnostic methods for many functional syndromes (FS) such as Bladder Pain Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis (IC) are not available. Exemplary embodiments include rapid and accurate methods for diagnosing FS in humans and domestic cats using infrared microspectroscopy (IRMS). Exemplary methods utilize Soft Independent Modeling by Class Analogy (SIMCA) to create classification models. Exemplary methods utilize classification models to classify a test subject's condition (e.g., healthy/sick). Using these classification models, various embodiments enable diagnosis based on spectra data from a fluid biomedical specimen. Exemplary embodiments may be useful to rapidly diagnose IC and various other conditions in humans, cats, and/or other mammals. | 07-14-2011

SELECTIVE CYTOPHERESIS DEVICES AND RELATED METHODS THEREOF - The present invention relates to systems and devices to treat and/or prevent inflammatory conditions within a subject and to related methods. More particularly, the invention relates to systems, devices, and related methods that sequester leukocytes and/or platelets and then inhibit their inflammatory action. | 03-05-2009
Extracorporeal cell-based therapeutic device and delivery system - Extracorporeal cell-based therapeutic devices and delivery systems are disclosed which provide a method for therapeutic delivery of biologically active molecules produced by living cells in response to a dynamic physiologic environment. One embodiment includes long hollow fibers in which a layer of cells are grown within the intraluminal volume or within a double hollow-filled chamber. Another embodiment includes a wafer or a series of wafers providing a substrate onto which cells are grown. The wafer(s) are inserted into a device. A device may deliver a pre-selected molecule, for example, a hormone, into a mammal's systemic circulation and/or may deliver a member of different cell products. The device is adapted to secure viable cells which produce and secrete the pre-selected molecule into blood or fluid. The invention also provides a minimally invasive method for percutaneously introducing into a preselected blood vessel or body cavity the device of the invention. | 03-26-2009

VERSATILE RADIO PACKETING FOR AUTOMATIC METER READING SYSTEMS - An automatic meter reading (AMR) system utilizes versatile radio packets that are recognizable by AMR system receivers capable of receiving conventional interval data message (IDM) radio packets. A versatile radio packet includes a packet preamble portion, a packet body portion, and a packet validation portion. The packet preamble portion has a frame synchronization bit sequence that is recognizable by existing or conventional encoder-receiver-transmitter (ERT)-compatible AMR system receivers, such as a bit sequence equal to 0x16A3. The packet preamble portion also has a packet type identifier field and a packet length field. The packet body portion includes at least an endpoint serial number field and a message, where at least the message has a variable length. Optionally, the message includes a message type identifier field and a message value field that can have a plurality of sub-fields. The AMR system may use message type identifiers optionally present in the versatile radio packets to filter, or discriminate between, certain message types at the reader level. Versatile radio packets can enable endpoints and other devices in the AMR system to transmit a variety of new information to existing AMR infrastructure without having to conduct a significant infrastructure overhaul of the AMR system. | 03-03-2011
