20090305665METHOD OF IDENTIFYING A TRANSMITTING DEVICE - An exemplary method of identifying a transmitting device includes receiving a signal. A discrete Fourier transform of at least one portion of the signal produces a plurality of frequencies that indicate at least one unique characteristic of the transmitting device. A determination is made whether the transmitting device is a known device based upon the plurality of frequencies.12-10-2009

20080267106Apparatus and method for practical and efficient broadcast in mobile ad hoc networks - The present invention demonstrates how network-coding can be applied to a deterministic broadcast approach, resulting in significant reductions in the number of transmissions in the network. We propose two algorithms, that rely only on local two-hop topology information and make extensive use of opportunistic listening to reduce the number of transmissions: 1) a simple XOR-based coding algorithm and 2) a Reed-Solomon based coding algorithm that determines the optimal coding gain achievable for a coding algorithm that relies only on local information.10-30-2008
20090147702Method and Apparatus for Forming and Configuring a Dynamic Network of Mobile Network Nodes - The invention includes methods for forming, configuring, and managing a dynamic wireless network. A dynamic wireless network may be formed from at least one wireless node. The dynamic wireless network uses a Role Assignment Protocol (RAP) adapted for assigning one or more roles to each of the at least one wireless node. The dynamic wireless network uses a Network Configuration Protocol (NCP) adapted for configuring each of the at least one node at least according to the assigned role(s). A dynamic wireless network may be modified in response to one or more conditions, such as a wireless node joining the dynamic wireless network, a wireless node leaving the dynamic wireless network, wireless nodes moving within the dynamic wireless network, and the like. A dynamic wireless network may be split into multiple dynamic wireless networks and, similarly, multiple dynamic wireless networks may merge to form one dynamic wireless network.06-11-2009
20100216478Method and apparatus for operating a communications arrangement comprising femto cells - A method for operating a communications arrangement comprising femto cells includes opportunistic use of the spectrum by a femto cell. The method may involve multi-operator spectrum re-use and/or multi-service spectrum re-use. The femto cell may use parts of the spectrum when they are not used by primary license holders. 20090040995METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MOBILITY ACROSS HETEROGENEOUS ADDRESS SPACES - A mobile node includes a processor, a network interface, and a storage device having computer program code for execution by the processor. The computer program code includes a network layer for transmitting and receiving packets and an intermediate driver that transmits packets to the network layer and receives packets from the network layer using a virtual internet protocol (IP) address to identify the mobile node. The intermediate driver transmits packets to the network interface and receives packets from the network interface using a routable actual IP address to identify the mobile node. The intermediate driver permits the actual IP address to change when the mobile node moves from a first subnet to a second subnet without a corresponding change in the virtual IP address. A corresponding NAT associates the virtual IP address with a second actual IP address when the NAT is notified that the mobile node is in the second subnet.02-12-2009
20090129319INTEGRATED WEB CACHE - A gateway for mobile communications comprises a cache for storing network data recently downloaded from a network, a foreign agent, and a packet filter that directs requests for the network data from a mobile node to the cache. The packet filter directs the requested network data from the cache to the mobile node by way of the foreign agent, without forwarding the requested network data to a home agent of the mobile node.05-21-2009

20110007705MOBILITY ACCESS GATEWAY - A gateway for mobile access includes a foreign agent that receives user profile data and session state data from a home authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) system of a mobile node, and a dynamic packet filter that performs multi-layer filtering based on the user profile data. The foreign agent transfers a session from a first network to a second network without session interruption, using the session state data, when the mobile node moves from the first network to the second network. The packet filter permits Internet access by the mobile node without passing Internet data requested by the mobile node through the first network.01-13-2011

20110243084METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR SPECTRUM MANAGEMENT - A method and apparatus for defining spectral usage at a base station in a wireless network. In various embodiments, the wireless network is divided into a plurality of regions, such that each of the regions may have associated with it one or more interfering adjacent regions, which are associated with different portions of a spectral allocation.10-06-2011

20090086973Method and Apparatus for Authenticating Nodes in a Wireless Network - The invention includes a method and apparatus for authenticating a wireless node requesting to join a network. A method includes receiving an authentication request from the wireless node, negotiating at least one authentication parameter with the wireless node, deriving a first encryption key using the at least one authentication parameter, encrypting a second encryption key using the first encryption key, and propagating the encrypted second encryption key toward the wireless node, wherein the wireless node independently derives the first encryption key for use in decrypting the encrypted second encryption key received from the authentication server node. The wireless node decrypts the encrypted second encryption key and stores the second encryption key for use to securely communicate with other wireless nodes of the network. In one embodiment, the present invention may be implemented using a modified version of the EAP-TLS protocol, in which rather than a Pairwise Master Key (PMK) being sent from the authentication server node to the wireless node, the authentication server node and the wireless node each derive the PMK and the authentication server node securely provides a group encryption key to the wireless node by encrypting the group encryption key using the PMK.04-02-2009
