20100103917System and Method for Synchronizing Phases and Frequencies of Devices in Multi-User, Wireless Communications Systems - A system and method for synchronizing the phases and frequencies of devices in multi-user, wireless communications systems are provided. A primary beacon signal is transmitted by a destination node in a wireless communications network to a plurality of source nodes. Secondary beacon signals are also exchanged between the source nodes. Using the primary and secondary beacon signals, the nodes generate local phase and frequency estimates which are used to control local phases and frequencies of the source nodes. The source nodes then transmit common information to the destination at carrier frequencies based on the estimated local frequencies and phases, so that the phases and frequencies of the transmitted information are synchronized to facilitate coherent combining of the bandpass signals at the destination. Phase and frequency synchronization can be applied to wireless communications systems having any number of source nodes, and effects of Doppler shifts and moving platforms are accounted for. Acoustic and radio-frequency signaling can be utilized.04-29-2010

20120093376NOISE REDUCTION OF IMAGING DATA - The present invention relates to systems and methods for reducing noise in image data. Preferred embodiments relate to methods for analyzing two-photon in vivo imaging of biological systems. With neuronal population imaging with subcellular resolution, this modality offers an approach for gaining a fundamental understanding of brain anatomy and physiology. Analysis of calcium imaging data requires denoising, that is separating the signal from complex physiological noise. 20110315195Micro-Gap Thermal Photovoltaic Large Scale Sub-Micron Gap Method and Apparatus - The present invention relates to micron-gap thermal photovoltaic (MTPV) technology for the solid-state conversion of heat to electricity. The problem is forming and then maintaining the close spacing between two bodies at a sub-micron gap in order to maintain enhanced performance. While it is possible to obtain the sub-micron gap spacing, the thermal effects on the hot and cold surfaces induce cupping, warping, or deformation of the elements resulting in variations in gap spacing thereby resulting in uncontrollable variances in the power output. A major aspect of the design is to allow for intimate contact of the emitter chips to the shell inside surface, so that there is good heat transfer. The photovoltaic cells are pushed outward against the emitter chips in order to press them against the inner wall. A high temperature thermal interface material improves the heat transfer between the shell inner surface and the emitter chip.12-29-2011

20100029500OLIGONUCLEOTIDE ARRAYS TO MONITOR GENE EXPRESSION AND METHODS FOR MAKING AND USING SAME - The present invention provides an oligonucleotide array capable of identifying genes and related pathways involved with the induction of a particular phenotype by a cell line, e.g., the genes and related pathways involved with the induction of transgene expression by the cell line. The invention is particularly useful when there is little or no information about the genome of the cell line being studied, because it provides methods for identifying consensus sequences for known and previously undiscovered genes, and for designing oligonucleotide probes to the identified consensus sequences. Additionally, when the array is to be used to determine optimal conditions for expression of a transgene by the cell line, the invention teaches methods of including oligonucleotide probes to transgene sequences in the array. The invention also provides methods of using the array to identify genes and related pathways involved with the induction of a particular cell line phenotype. The invention also provides novel polynucleotides of undiscovered genes (i.e., a gene that had not been sequenced and/or shown to be expressed by CHO cells) and novel polynucleotides involved with the induction of a particular cell phenotype, e.g., increased survival when grown under stressful culture conditions, increased transgene expression, decreased production of an antigen, etc. These novel polynucleotides are termed novel CHO sequences and differential CHO sequences, respectively. The invention also provides genetically engineered expression vectors, host cells, and transgenic animals comprising the novel nucleic acid molecules of the invention. The invention additionally provides antisense and RNAi molecules to the nucleic acid molecules of the invention. The invention further provides methods of using the polynucleotides of the invention.02-04-2010

20080214619Business method to treat and/or prevent a gastric acid disorder with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and a cholinergic agonist to induce rapid onset of PPI action with or without food - Pharmaceutical proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medications and methods are disclosed for preventing and/or treating gastrointestinal disorders characterized by abnormalities in gastric acid secretion at anytime of the day or night without the need for food effect or to be taken with food. The medications comprise a PPI and a cholinergic agonist for inducing rapid onset of PPI action, for increasing the duration of PPI efficacy and for optimizing clinical PPI effectiveness that may be administered at any time of the day or night without food or on an empty stomach, and possibly on an as-needed or on demand basis. In carrying out the methods, a PPI and cholinergic agonist may be administered together as a single unitary dose in the form of a liquid or solid, or administered together, but separately as either liquids or solids or a combination thereof. Preferably, an oral solid dosage form of the present invention allows for release of a proton pump inhibitor at a pH of about 5 or higher, e.g., pH about 5.5, 6, 6.5 or 7, followed by release of a cholinergic agonist within between about 10 minutes and about 60 minutes, preferably within about 15 minutes and about 30 minutes, after release of the proton pump inhibitor from the dosage form, so that it can be administered at any time of the day or night independent of food or food effect. It is believed that the methods and compositions of the present invention will increase the duration of PPI efficacy by between at least about 5 fold and about 10 fold or even about 20 fold, as compared to the duration of PPI efficacy derived from current PPI dosage forms administered alone and without food or a food effect. Kits comprising a PPI, a cholinergic agonist and optionally an antacid are disclosed, such as kits containing each drug in conventional and commercially available dry or liquid dosage forms for simultaneous or concomitant administration or in dry dosage forms to provide for the easy preparation of a liquid composition from the dry dosage forms. These new medications and methods will simplify the traditional continuous PPI regimen and improve patient compliance.09-04-2008
