20110319016DATA EXCHANGE INITIATED BY TAPPING DEVICES - A user can initiate the transmission of data on a mobile device by making physical contact with another device. The physical contact can be any type of physical touch that is referred to as a ‘tap’ or ‘tapping.’ When a tap is detected by a device, the device may initiate near field communication (NFC) with the other tapping device. NFC may be used to communicate data between the two devices, or NFC may be used to exchange sufficient information to allow the devices to establish a communication channel via another communication link. In some embodiments, an NFC-enabled mobile device can be used to gather group data relating to users having mobile devices that are within NFC range of one another and which initiate the aggregation of group data by the tapping of three or more devices.12-29-2011

20110169550Method and Apparatus for Use in Improving Linearity of MOSFETs Using an Accumulated Charge Sink - A method and apparatus for use in improving the linearity characteristics of MOSFET devices using an accumulated charge sink (ACS) are disclosed. The method and apparatus are adapted to remove, reduce, or otherwise control accumulated charge in SOI MOSFETs, thereby yielding improvements in FET performance characteristics. In one exemplary embodiment, a circuit having at least one SOI MOSFET is configured to operate in an accumulated charge regime. An accumulated charge sink, operatively coupled to the body of the SOI MOSFET, eliminates, removes or otherwise controls accumulated charge when the FET is operated in the accumulated charge regime, thereby reducing the nonlinearity of the parasitic off-state source-to-drain capacitance of the SOI MOSFET. In RF switch circuits implemented with the improved SOI MOSFET devices, harmonic and intermodulation distortion is reduced by removing or otherwise controlling the accumulated charge when the SOI MOSFET operates in an accumulated charge regime.07-14-2011
20110227637Method and Apparatus Improving Gate Oxide Reliability by Controlling Accumulated Charge - A method and apparatus are disclosed for use in improving the gate oxide reliability of semiconductor-on-insulator (SOI) metal-oxide-silicon field effect transistor (MOSFET) devices using accumulated charge control (ACC) techniques. The method and apparatus are adapted to remove, reduce, or otherwise control accumulated charge in SOI MOSFETs, thereby yielding improvements in FET performance characteristics. In one embodiment, a circuit comprises a MOSFET, operating in an accumulated charge regime, and means for controlling the accumulated charge, operatively coupled to the SOI MOSFET. A first determination is made of the effects of an uncontrolled accumulated charge on time dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB) of the gate oxide of the SOI MOSFET. A second determination is made of the effects of a controlled accumulated charge on TDDB of the gate oxide of the SOI MOSFET. The SOI MOSFET is adapted to have a selected average time-to-breakdown, responsive to the first and second determinations, and the circuit is operated using techniques for accumulated charge control operatively coupled to the SOI MOSFET. In one embodiment, the accumulated charge control techniques include using an accumulated charge sink operatively coupled to the SOI MOSFET body.09-22-2011

20100300038APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR AN ADJUSTABLE COLUMN - An adjustable lally column apparatus is described that has a first end portion and an opposed second end portion. A cap plate has a first side and an opposed second side that is adapted to connect to a beam. The cap plate includes a selective retention mechanism. An adjustment mechanism connects to the second end portion of the column. The adjustment mechanism includes a base plate that is adapted to be positioned on a floor. The adjustable column has a first position wherein the cap plate is connected to the first end portion of the column and beam and the column is suspended from the beam. The adjustable column has a second position wherein the adjustment mechanism provides an adjustable load-bearing interface between the floor and a terminal end of the second end portion of the column. The adjustment mechanism adjusts to extend between the suspended column and the floor to place the column in a load bearing position between the beam and floor. A method of adjusting a column includes providing a column, a cap plate and an adjustment mechanism. The adjustment mechanism connects to a second end portion of the column. The column is raised and a first portion of the column and the cap plate are connected to a beam. The column is then freely suspending from the beam. The height of the adjustment mechanism is adjusted such that the suspended adjustable column is moved between the suspended position and a load bearing position.12-02-2010

20090037929Secure Inter-Process Communications Using Mandatory Access Control Security Policies - The present invention provides secure inter-process communications, and applications thereof. In an embodiment, a shared memory and a message queue are used to provide a secure communication channel between a first computer process and a second computer process. The shared memory provides a path for high-bandwidth data transfer in a forward direction. The message queue provides a path for controlling the data transfer in the forward direction, while limiting data transfer in the reverse direction. A third computer process creates the message queue that is used by the first computer process and the second computer process to control the passage of data. Access to the shared memory and the message queue are enforced using a mandatory access control security policy.02-05-2009
20100290476One-Way Router - A one-way router combines benefits of a network diode and router, and thus can route data between networks of varying confidentiality and/or integrity in a secure, one-way fashion. Secure routing is provided transparently so that the router is compatible with standard network applications by synthesizing responses for standard network protocols to provide many-to-many network connections while preventing bidirectional data flow. Separate network stacks are provided for each connected network, and the network stacks are separated from each other by data diodes that enforce one-way data flow. The one-way router can be implemented in hardware or software, and provides architectural flexibility to customize levels of assurance, performance, reliability, and cost.11-18-2010

20100070666SYSTEM, APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR GRANTING ACCESS TO A SHARED COMMUNICATIONS BUS - Systems, apparatuses and methods for timing access to a shared communications bus by a plurality of devices. Each of a plurality of nodes is successively provided an opportunity to gain access to a shared bus according to a time slot allocation referenced from a time reference. The successive time slot allocation occurs until one of the nodes has a message to send via the shared bus. The node that has the message to send transmits a frame onto the bus. A new time reference is established at each of the nodes based on an indication provided by the transmitted frame, whereby each of the nodes can then be afforded a new opportunity to gain access to the shared bus according to the time slot allocation referenced from the new time reference.03-18-2010
