20110027806FARNESYLTRANSFERASE INHIBITORS FOR TREATMENT OF LAMINOPATHIES, CELLULAR AGING AND ATHEROSCLEROSIS - Although it can be farnesylated, the mutant lamin A protein expressed in Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) cannot be defarnesylated because the characteristic mutation causes deletion of a cleavage site necessary for binding the protease ZMPSTE24 and effecting defarnesylation. The result is an aberrant farnesylated protein (called “progerin”) that alters normal lamin A function as a dominant negative, as well as assuming its own aberrant function through its association with the nuclear membrane. The retention of farnesylation, and potentially other abnormal properties of progerin and other abnormal lamin gene protein products, produces disease. Farnesyltransferase inhibitors (FTIs) (both direct effectors and indirect inhibitors) will inhibit the formation of progerin, cause a decrease in lamin A protein, and/or an increase prelamin A protein. Decreasing the amount of aberrant protein improves cellular effects caused by and progerin expression. Similarly, treatment with FTIs should improve disease status in progeria and other laminopathies. In addition, elements of atherosclerosis and aging in non-laminopathy individuals will improve after treatment with farnesyltransferase inhibitors.02-03-2011

20120005580Autonomic I/O Tracing and Performance Tuning - In an embodiment, a kernel performs autonomic input/output tracing and performance tuning. A first table is provided in a device driver framework and a second table in a kernel of a computer. An input/output device monitoring tool is provided in the device driver framework. A plurality of instructions in the kernel compares each value in the first table with each value in the second table. Responsive to a match of a value in the first table and a value in the second table, the kernel automatically runs a command line to perform a system trace, a component trace, or a tuning task. The first table is populated with a plurality of values calculated from a plurality of data in a plurality of device memories and in the controller memory and the second table is populated in accordance with a second plurality of inputs to the command line interface.01-05-2012

20080215409ITERATIVE RESOURCE SCHEDULING - A request is received to accomplish a task by using a plurality of resources. Once the task is received, attributes of the resources are retrieved from a memory including constraints associated with those resources. These constraints can include hard constraints and soft constraints. A first schedule is then created using a subset of the plurality of resources that complies with each task and resource hard constraint. A score based on the degree of compliance of each soft constraint is determined for the first schedule score. Thereafter the first schedule is modified to form a second schedule, again complying with each hard constraint. A second schedule score is determined associated with the second schedule. These scores are compared so as to determine and select the more optimal schedule. The process continues iteratively until modifications of the schedule no longer yield an improving schedule.09-04-2008

20120066268CONTENT ASSET MANAGER - A content asset manager (CAM) system manages content to be developed. CAM includes a data repository storing static assets and page assets operable to be used in a web site developed in a code editing system. A web service interfaces the CAM system with the code editing system and provides the code editing system with access to at least some of the static assets stored in the data repository through a user interface in the code editing system and provides code, including at least one of the static assets, for the web site developed in the code editing system to the CAM system. A slot database includes a plurality of independent slots, and a slot stores data to be used for the web site at runtime. A content manager retrieves the code for the web site from the data repository and stores the code for the web site in the slot for the web site in the slot database. The web site may be deployed using data in the slot.03-15-2012

20110075418Illuminating optical lens for light emitting diode (LED) - An illuminating optical lens article of manufacture for use with a light emitting diode (LED) mounted on a circuit board is provided. The lens has (a) a base portion defining a rim on a plane having a bottom surface around a longitudinal axis for mounting over the LED; (b) an integral refractory outer surface of the lens extending towards the longitudinal axis from the base; (c) an integral refractory inner surface of the lens extending from the base forming a cavity shaped and sized to receive an LED; and optionally (d) a plurality of grooved sections for receiving an adhesive formed on the bottom surface of the base portion. The base is adapted to be mounted on the circuit board onto which the LED is mounted. The integral refractory outer and inner surfaces each define a predetermined geometry adapted to direct and focus light emitting from the LED to a predetermined path. The lens is fabricated with a tolerance range of within 0.15 mm or better. The lens can be incorporated into a luminaire system and mounted on to a circuit board using adhesive polymers. The assembly of the lens into the luminaire system can be automated using robotics.03-31-2011
