PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FORMULATED FOR PRE-GASTRIC ABSORPTION OF MONOAMINE OXIDASE B INHIBITORS - The invention described herein provides a fast dispersing oral solid dosage form containing monoamine oxidase B inhibitor (MAO-B inhibitor) as the active ingredient, and method of treating disease therewith, such as Parkinson's disease. In one embodiment, the monoamine oxidase B inhibitor selegiline or its analogue can be the sole active ingredient in the composition administered. The dosage form composition is formulated to promote absorption through the buccal, sublingual, pharyngeal and/or esophageal mucous membrane tissue, such that at least 5% of the active ingredient is absorbed within one minute of placement in the oral cavity, as determined by a buccal absorption test. Monoamine oxidase B inhibitor compounds administered in accordance with the invention decrease the amount of undesirable metabolites associated with first pass effect of selegiline, for example, such as amphetamine and methamphetamine. The invention provides a number of other advantages over conventional orally administered tablet forms, including administration of monoamine oxidase B inhibitor compounds to patients that have difficulty swallowing. | 09-09-2010

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR METERED DOSE DISPENSING - This application discloses a dose counter device of the type for use on an aerosol dispensing assembly having an aerosol container and an actuator. The dose counter device is used for indicating the release of a dose of aerosol medication caused by the application of a force, in an axial direction, on the aerosol dispensing assembly. The dose counter device has a cap, a slider and a first counter ring. The cap is moved in a first direction along an axis of the container, which causes movement of the slider in a first linear direction laterally, relative to the axis of the container, as a function of the movement of the cap in the first direction. The first counter ring is rotated through a first arc in a first circumferential direction about the axis of the container, as a function of the movement of the slider in the first linear direction. The cap is then moved in a second opposite direction, which causes the slider to move in a second opposite linear direction, which in turn causes rotation of the first counter ring through a second arc in the first circumferential direction about the axis of the container A sum of the first and second arcs of movement of the first counter ring defines a circumferential extent of movement of the first counter ring relative to the cap that indicates a single dose of aerosol medication dispensed from the container. | 12-17-2009

DOSE COUNTER - This application discloses a dose counter for use in connection with a device adapted for metered dispensing of a medication. The dose counter has a first count indicator that has a first indicia bearing surface, with the first count indicator being rotatable about a first axis. The dose counter also has a second count indicator that has a second indicia bearing surface, with the second count indicator being rotatable about a second axis. The second axis is disposed at an obtuse angle with respect to the first axis, and the first and second indicia bearing surfaces align at a common viewing area to collectively present at least a portion of a medication dosage count. | 07-09-2009

Surgical instrument - An articulated surgical instrument includes a handle, an actuating assembly associated with the handle, and a shaft including a proximal end coupled to the handle, a deflectable portion and an end effector. Distal portions of deflection wires are connected to the shaft. Proximal portions of the wires are connected to the actuating assembly. Movement of the actuating assembly moves the deflection wires to cause a deflection of the deflectable portion. The actuating assembly includes one or more actuators and one or more slider members associated with the actuators and connected to the deflection wires. The slider members are movable linearly between first and second positions, the proximal portions of the deflection wires being connected to the slider members. One of the actuators and slider members has a cam track and the other has a cam follower, such that movement of an actuator by the user of the instrument causes a linear movement of a slider member from its first position to its second position, so as to move the deflection wires causing a corresponding deflection of the deflectable portion. | 07-23-2009

MODIFIED CELLULOSIC MATERIALS - The invention provides a process for aminoarylating cellulosic materials such as cotton and reconstituted fibres and a process for treating the aminoarylated cellulose with an effect chemical such as a dye, flame retardant or cross linking agent. Improved take up of the effect chemical by the modified cellulose means increased efficiency in the process and in the case of dyeing, avoids or reduces the washing off of hydrolysed dye and the resultant production of large volumes of contaminated water requiring to be treated. The cellulosic material may be present in a blend with other types of fibre for example a blend with poly(alkyleneterephthalates) or polyamides. | 07-21-2011
