20090204026Safety Blood Collection Assembly With Indicator - A blood collection assembly includes a housing and a cannula extending distally from the housing including a patient end, and a cannula shield removably engaged with a portion of the housing. The cannula shield is capable of shielding at least the patient end of the cannula, and includes a safety shield engagement. The assembly includes a pivoting safety shield engaged with a portion of the housing, which is transitionable from a retracted position in which the patient end of the cannula is exposed, to an extended position in which the patient end of the cannula is shielded by at least a portion of the safety shield. The safety shield includes at least one locking tab releasably engageable with the safety shield engagement, wherein the locking tab is fixedly engageable with a portion of the housing in the extended position.08-13-2009
20090259145Capillary Action Collection Device and Container Assembly - A container assembly is disclosed including an outer container, a hollow inner member, and a closure. The outer container has a closed bottom, an open top, and a sidewall extending therebetween. The hollow inner member is disposed within the outer container and has an inner surface defining at least one capillary channel. The inner member includes a first end adjacent to the open top of the outer container and has an outer periphery seated against the sidewall of the outer container. The closure has a proximal end and a distal end. The closure proximal end is seated at least partially within the first end of the inner member to seal the outer container and inner member and define a fluid collection chamber. The closure distal end defines a recessed area shaped to direct fluid under capillary action to the at least one capillary channel in the inner member.10-15-2009
20090259201Flash Activated Passive Shielding Needle Assembly - A safety needle device includes a housing including a passageway with a needle cannula extending therefrom. A shielding member is movable between a first position in which a puncture tip of the needle cannula is exposed therefrom and a second position in which the puncture tip of the needle cannula is encompassed therein. The shielding member is maintained in the first position against a biasing force which biases the shielding member toward the second position. A fluid and/or temperature activation material, such as a hydrogel or a compressed sponge, is associated with the shielding member and is adapted to deform upon contact with a fluid medium and/or a certain temperature or temperature range. Fluid flowing through the needle cannula, such as blood flow during a blood collection procedure, causes the activation material to deform, such as through expansion, thereby releasing the shielding member from the first position and allowing the drive member to bias the shielding member toward the second position.10-15-2009
20090308184Co-Molded Pierceable Stopper and Method for Making the Same - A closure and method of making a closure are disclosed.
