20100049484METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MODELLING AND SIMULATING OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF SPECIAL EFFECT PAINTS AND FOR DETERMINING ILLUMINATION AND MEASUREMENT GEOMETRIES FOR SPECTRAL PHOTOMETERS - A method that is suitable for modelling and simulating optical properties in special effect paints which contain pigments with isotropic light-scattering properties and pigments with anisotropic light-scattering properties, and the effect-producing substances form at least one layer of material or coat of paint on a suitable substrate. The method is also suitable for reproducing a shade of colour of a colour template of a special effect paint of this kind, by determining and comparing the optical properties of the colour template and a formulation of a paint mock-up, so that using the comparison a correction can be made to the formulation for the paint mock-up and the shades of colour of the colour template and paint mock-up can be matched. The method is characterised in that the isotropically light-scattering pigments and the anisotropically light-scattering pigments are virtually separated such that the isotropically light-scattering pigments virtually form the layer of material and the anisotropically light-scattering pigments are virtually arranged on the edge surfaces of the layer of material. The optical properties of the virtual layer of material of the isotropically light-scattering pigments are determined by linear differential equations and the optical properties of the anisotropically light-scattering pigments are taken into consideration as boundary conditions, by means of specific effect operators.02-25-2010

20090205419Ultrasonic Measuring Device for a Container - The invention relates to an ultrasound measuring device for a container. A coupling device supporting an ultrasound transducer serves for coupling and asymmetric alignment of the ultrasound transducer with respect to the container. This causes a sound field of the interfering signal in an ultrasound measurement to propagate within the container in an asymmetric fashion with respect to planes of symmetry of the container, whereby the interfering signal that is received at the site of injection is attenuated relative to a useful signal.08-20-2009

200901916313-D petri-dish for the culture and studies of cells - A three-dimensional (3-D) culture “Petri-dish” for research in regenerative medicine, biotechnology and clinical translation is described. This 3-D perfusion culture dish is to advance in vitro culture tools from static 2-D to dynamic 3-D perfusion culture. Interwoven hollow fiber capillary membranes divide the “Petri-dish” culture space into a controllable 3-D pattern of different compartments, serving the functions of the organ's larger vasculature. These physically active scaffolds, which can be suitable for cell adhesion or cell aggregate immobilization, offer a supply of cells with high-performance mass exchange including gas supply and under perfusion conditions. In contrast to static and discontinuous medium supply, a dynamic culture can be achieved with continuous or alternating medium supply and integral oxygenation. They provide a more physiologic supply in the cell macro environment, including homeostasis of oxygen, pH, nutrition, soluble factors, and gradients of metabolites for the cells. Also, medium perfusion can be achieved. Consequently the invention was made for cultures at tissue density, especially stem cells and support cells, which strive to create their own stem cell niche.07-30-2009
