20100070483APPARATUS AND SOFTWARE SYSTEM FOR AND METHOD OF PERFORMING A VISUAL-RELEVANCE-RANK SUBSEQUENT SEARCH - A method analyzes the visual content of media such as videos for collecting together visually-similar appearances in their constituent images (e.g. same scenes, same objects, faces of the same people.) As a result, the most relevant and salient (of clearest and largest presence) visual appearances depicted in the videos are presented to the user, both for the sake of summarizing the video content for the users to “see before they watch” (that is, judge by the depicted video content in a filmstrip-like summary whether they want to mouse-click on the video and actually spend time watching it), as well as for allowing to users to further refine their video search result set according to the most relevant and salient video content returned (e.g. largest screen-time faces).03-18-2010

20110087450Heading Error Removal System for Tracking Devices - Systems are able to reduce or remove slowly-varying drift errors, such as heading errors, rate of rotation errors, and direction of travel errors, to correct the measurements from tracking devices. The systems may be used to remove the slow varying drift errors for gyroscopic tracking device sensors, or other types of sensors used for determining heading, rates of rotation, direction of travel, or position. The systems may be employed in personal dead reckoning systems, or other personnel tracking device, as well as in vehicle tracking devices. The system uses heuristic assumptions to correct for these drift errors, via a feedback loop control having an accumulator responsive to changes in output signals. The accumulator is able to produce a signal that over time compensates for the inherent drift errors on those output signals.04-14-2011

20080270046PRESSURE MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENT AND METHOD - A measurement instrument having a processor, a first sensor and a second sensor. The processor is adapted to output a measurement signal embodying a measurement of a physical quantity. The first sensor and second sensor are connected to the processor and are operable to generate respectively first and second measurements of the physical quantity. The processor defines a first measurement range within which the measurement signal is dependent on the first measurement and not the second measurement. The processor defines a second measurement range within which the measurement signal is dependent on the second measurement and not the first measurement. The first and second ranges meet at a predetermined transition. The first and second measurements are different at the transition and the measurement embodied in the measurement signal crosses the transition without an abrupt change.10-30-2008

20080315887Method and apparatus for maintaining emission capabilities of hot cathodes in harsh environments - A method and apparatus for operating a multi-hot-cathode ionization gauge is provided to increase the operational lifetime of the ionization gauge in gaseous process environments. In example embodiments, the life of a spare cathode is extended by heating the spare cathode to a temperature that is insufficient to emit electrons but that is sufficient to decrease the amount of material that deposits on its surface or is optimized to decrease the chemical interaction between a process gas and a material of the at least one spare cathode. The spare cathode may be constantly or periodically heated. In other embodiments, after a process pressure passes a given pressure threshold, plural cathodes may be heated to a non-emitting temperature, plural cathodes may be heated to a lower emitting temperature, or an emitting cathode may be heated to a temperature that decreases the electron emission current.12-25-2008
