20110016886METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SWITCHED THERMOELECTRIC COOLING OF FLUIDS - A method and system for efficiently cooling a fluid is provided. A cooling system includes a first chamber containing a first fluid, and a second chamber connected to the first chamber and containing a second fluid. The cooling system further includes one or more thermoelectric devices for cooling the second fluid in the second chamber, and a first body that acts as a thermal diode. The first body enables unidirectional transfer of heat from the thermoelectric devices to the first fluid. Further, the cooling system can be installed with one or more phase change materials or heat pipes that enhance the cooling efficiency of the cooling system. The thermoelectric devices are switched on for a certain time period, after which they are switched off and on repeatedly in cycles, depending on the temperature of the second fluid.01-27-2011
20110220164ENHANCED METAL-CORE THERMOELECTRIC COOLING AND POWER GENERATION DEVICE - In various embodiments of the present invention, a thermoelectric device is provided. The thermoelectric device includes one or more thermoelements that transfer heat across the ends of the thermoelectric device. A method for creating the thermoelectric device includes forming a metal substrate, and etching one or more surfaces of the metal substrate to form etched portions. The unetched flat portions on the metal substrate are referred to as mesa cores. Thereafter, thermoelectric films are deposited on the one or more surfaces of the metal substrate. The deposition of the thermoelectric films on the mesa cores results in the formation of a thermoelement.09-15-2011

20100145606Geographic database with detailed local data - A method is disclosed for representing locations in a geographic database in a manner that facilitates navigation and routing. A core map database includes data that represents public roads in a geographic region. Each of a plurality of location map databases includes data that represent facilities, such as businesses, stores, offices, or other places, that are physically located away from the public network and access to which requires travel on paths away from the public road network. Each of the facilities represented in the location map databases is assigned a location reference code that is associated with data from which a path connecting the facility and the public road network can be determined.06-10-2010

20120059720Method of Operating a Navigation System Using Images - A navigation system comprises a processor, a geographic database and a guidance application executable on the processor. The guidance application obtains data from the geographic database and obtains a photographic image. The guidance application overlays an advertisement route highlight on said photographic image. The advertisement route highlight graphically illustrates a path corresponding to a route and a direction of travel for the route. The advertisement route highlight includes a series of advertisement decals.03-08-2012
20120092326Branded Location Referencing - A method and system for displaying a map that depicts landmarks with brand identity are disclosed. A map display application obtains the physical dimensions of a landmark, such as a building, and fills the footprint of the landmark with the brand identity of a company and/or a product associated with the landmark. The map display application can also render the landmark in 3D.04-19-2012

20080319646Method of collecting information for a geographic database for use with a navigation system - A method of operating a navigation system is disclosed. A route between a first location on a road network and a second location in a facility off of the road network is identified. Individual guidance messages for travel along a portion of the route on the road network are composed. A pre-composed set of guidance instructions for travel in the facility along a portion of the route off of the road network are obtained from a geographic database associated with the navigation system. The guidance instructions comprise at least one maneuver instruction and at least one reference to a visible feature in the facility.12-25-2008
20090037103Method of Operating a Navigation System Using Images - A method of operating a navigation system determines a route between an origin and a destination and provides a photographic image showing a geographic area through which the route passes. The photographic image is obtained from a geographic database, and the photographic image shows the geographic area from a land-based viewpoint. The method overlays a route highlight on the photographic image identifying a path to be traveled. The route highlight extends along the path for a distance visible in the photographic image.02-05-2009
20090187339Method of Collecting Information for a Geographic Database for use with a Navigation System - A method for collecting geographic data identifies a pedestrian segment associated with a path. Location information for the pedestrian segment is collected. Additionally, lighting level attribute information is collected for the pedestrian segment. The location information and the lighting level attribute information are stored in the geographic database that is stored on a computer readable storage medium.07-23-2009
20090265095Method of Collecting Information for a Geographic Database for Use with a Navigation System - A method of operating a navigation system is disclosed. A request for a route between a first location on a road network and a second location off of the road network is received. A geographic database stored on a computer readable medium associated with the navigation system is accessed to obtain data representing a plurality of road segments including data representing a sidewalk along the road segment and data representing a crosswalk associated with the road segment. The geographic database is accessed to obtain data representing a plurality of pedestrian segments and data representing at least one orientation node providing a connection between one of the road segments and one of said pedestrian segments. A solution route comprising a series of connected road segments and a series of connected pedestrian segments between the first location and the second location is determined.10-22-2009
20100222999Method of Collecting Information for a Geographic Database for Use with a Navigation System - A method for operating a navigation system computes a pedestrian route for travel by a pedestrian. A request to calculate the pedestrian route from an origin to a destination and a walking preference for the pedestrian route identifying a feature of the pedestrian route are obtained. A geographic database associated with the navigation system is accessed for data representing at least one pedestrian path. The data representing the pedestrian path includes lighting level attribute information for the pedestrian path. A valid solution pedestrian route from the origin to the destination comprising a series of connected pedestrian paths that support the walking preference is determined.09-02-2010
