GROWTH OF COATINGS OF NANOPARTICLES BY PHOTOINDUCED CHEMICAL VAPOR DEPOSITION - Photoinduced chemical vapor deposition was used to grow coatings on nanoparticles. Aerosolized nanoparticles were mixed with a vapor-phase coating reactant and introduced into a coating reactor, where the mixture was exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Tandem differential mobility analysis was used to determine coating thicknesses as a function of initial particle size. | 08-19-2010

SOCIAL KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM CONTENT QUALITY - Techniques for automatically scoring submissions to an online question-and-answer submission system are disclosed. According to one such technique, an initial set of user submissions are scored by human operators and/or automated algorithmic mechanisms. The submissions and their accompanying scores are provided as training data to an automated machine learning mechanism. The machine learning mechanism processes the training data and automatically detects patterns in the provided submissions. The machine learning mechanism automatically correlates these patterns with the scores assigned to the submissions that match those patterns. As a result, the machine learning mechanism is trained. Thereafter, the machine learning mechanism processes unscored submissions. The machine learning mechanism automatically identifies, from among the patterns that the machine learning mechanism has already detected, one or more patterns that these submissions match. The machine learning mechanism automatically scores these submissions based on the matching patterns and the scores that are associated with those patterns. | 11-05-2009

IMPLEMENTS - An implement comprising a first member, at least a second member secured at one end of the first member; and at least one piece of material overlapping a junction between the first member and the second member. The implement is made by securing the second member at one end of the first member; and overlapping the junction between the first member and the second member with a piece of material smoothing a surface at the junction. | 08-13-2009
WEEDER - A weeding hand tool, comprising a generally longitudinal member joining a handle grip at a first end thereof and a pedal at a second opposite end thereof, a finger head comprising coiled fingers arranged in a helix and an ejector rod mobile inside the helix, and an ejector arm, wherein, when the tool is positioned generally vertically with free end tips of the coiled fingers on the ground, pushing down on the handle grip and/or on the pedal causes the coiled fingers to rotated down into the soil, entrapping a weed beneath the soil as they penetrate the soil, and wherein when, by pulling up on the longitudinal member, the coiled fingers are pulled out from the soil, with the weed entrapped in the helix they form, and the weed is ejected from the helix pulling down on the ejector arm. | 08-25-2011

Mobile Device Stand for Restaurants and Bars - A stand for a mobile device such as a cell phone or MP3 music player provides an A-frame support structure having a width sufficient to support the device, a front leg, a back leg and a top and bottom. A shelf projects out at approximately a right angle from the bottom front of the A-frame support for a distance sufficient to support the device. A device resting on the lip is lifted away from the surface of a table or bar and protected from fluid or detritus. | 11-11-2010

SIZING COMPOSITION FOR GLASS FIBERS - A sizing composition that permits in-line chopping and drying of reinforcement fibers for reinforcing thermoset resins is provided. The size composition includes at least one coupling agent and one or more blocked polyurethane film forming agents. The blocking agent preferably de-blocks at a temperature that permits simultaneous or nearly simultaneous de-blocking and curing of the polyurethane film former. The sized fiber strands may be chopped to form chopped strand segments and dried in a fluidized bed oven, such as a Cratec® drying oven, in-line. The chopped fiber strands may then be used in a bulk molding compound and molded into a reinforced composite article. Chopping the glass fibers in-line lowers the manufacturing costs for products produced from the sized fiber bundles. Further, because the reinforcement fibers can be chopped and dried at a much faster rate with the inventive size composition compared to conventional off-line chopping processes, productivity is increased. | 12-15-2011

SHOWER SYSTEM FOR AIRCRAFT - A shower unit for an aircraft comprises: a shower head, and controls to manually control the water output. A shower enclosure defines a receiving cavity to receive the user. The shower enclosure supports the shower head and the controls for the user to shower in the receiving cavity. The shower enclosure comprises a first door on a first side of the shower enclosure, and a second door on a second side of the shower enclosure to define a passageway through the shower enclosure. The shower unit is adapted to be positioned in the aircraft such that the passageway communicates between two separate zones of the aircraft. | 10-27-2011
