METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR EXTRACTION OF PARTICLES FROM SURFACES - A method and apparatus for the extraction of particles from surfaces is disclosed. A preferred method comprises the steps of (1) adjusting the temperature and humidity of an air supply to provide an adjusted air supply, (2) directing a blast from the adjusted air supply to a surface bearing particles, so as to produce a deflected blast that comprises some of the particles from the surface, (3) collecting the deflected blast and particles, and (4) directing the deflected blast and particles towards an analyzer. A preferred apparatus includes an air adjuster and a probe comprising an adjusted air supply passage, an adjusted air aperture, a deflected air aperture, and a deflected air passage, wherein the air adjuster is adapted to provide a flow of adjusted air to the adjusted air supply passage and the adjusted air aperture. The flow may be continuous, intermittent, pulsed or periodic. The adjusted air aperture and a deflected air aperture are configured in proximity to allow a blast of adjusted air from the adjusted air aperture to impact an adjacent surface containing particles. The blast dislodges particles from the surface. The deflected air aperture and deflected air aperture are adapted to receive the deflected blast and dislodged particles, and direct them to an analyzer. | 10-08-2009

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR FREQUENCY INDEPENDENT BEARING DETECTION - A system and method are provided for estimating bearing of a target based on RF signals received by an array of antenna elements. The system comprises first and second input channels that are configured to receive analog signals that correspond to first and second antenna elements. The system also includes an analog to digital converter module for converting each of the analog signals to digital data samples and outputting separate streams of digital data samples corresponding to each of the first and second antenna elements as first and second data streams. An in-phase and quadrature detector module includes a phase shift module for shifting each of the first and second data streams by a predetermined amount of time to form first and second phase shifted data streams. A surveillance module determines a bearing of the target based on in-phase and quadrature data. | 08-28-2008
DIGITAL TAS TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER SYSTEMS AND METHODS - A directional receiver is provided for an aircraft collision avoidance system. The receiver may include input channels that are configured to receive uncompressed linear analog signals from antenna elements that are arranged within a predetermined antenna element geometry. The receiver may further include Analog to Digital (A/D) converter modules, a quadrature converter module and a combiner module. The A/D converter modules can convert each of the analog signals to uncompressed linear digital data and output separate digital data streams that correspond to each of the input channels. The quadrature converter module can mix the digital data streams with corresponding digital reference signals to produce digital In-phase (I) and Quadrature (Q) streams. | 11-20-2008
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CALIBRATING AN ANTENNA ARRAY FOR AN AIRCRAFT SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM - In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, a method is provided for calibrating an aircraft surveillance system for a protected aircraft. The system has a phased antenna array comprising antenna elements. The method comprises transmitting a first signal from a first antenna element in the array, and receiving the first signal at a third antenna element. The first signal may represent an interrogation signal transmitted in connection with a surveillance transmit sequence to locate potential intruding aircraft into a range of the protected aircraft. The method further includes transmitting a second signal from a second antenna element and receiving the second signal at the third antenna element. The method also includes calculating calibration information for the antenna array based on the first and second signals received at the third antenna element. During each transmit operation only a single antenna element transmits at one point in time. | 04-30-2009

VALVE ACTUATOR AND THROTTLE VALVE ASSEMBLY EMPLOYING THE SAME - Embodiments of a valve actuator are provided for adjusting the position of a main valve element in relation to the pressure of a fluid supplied by a supply duct. The valve actuator includes a housing, a control pressure valve disposed in the housing, and a piston slidably disposed in the housing and mechanically coupled to the main valve element. The housing has a control pressure chamber therein, which is configured to be fluidly coupled to the supply duct. The control pressure valve is configured to substantially impede fluid flow into the control pressure chamber until the fluid pressure within the supply duct surpasses a minimum actuation pressure. The piston normally resides in a first position and is configured to move toward a second position as the pressure within the control pressure chamber increases. | 10-22-2009

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MATCHING BUYERS AND SELLERS IN AN ANONYMOUS ONLINE MARKETPLACE - In one embodiment, the present invention is a method and apparatus for matching buyers and sellers in an anonymous online marketplace. One embodiment of a method for defining a community of network users includes collecting data relating to the network users, where the data is of at least one of the following types: demographic information relating to the network users, Internet Protocol address information relating to the network users, and Internet Protocol traffic information relating to the network users. The collected data is then anonymized, where the anonymizing is performed individually for each type of data. The anonymized data is aggregated to generate an activity-to-demographic mapping representative of network activity associated with particular demographics of the community of network users. | 11-27-2008

IRRIGATION, DEBRIDEMENT AND CLEANING BASIN - A basin for use in at least one of irrigation, debridement, cleaning and other procedures on a subject's appendage includes a flexible body including one or more walls. A first wall can define an appendage contour, which can flex under the weight of the appendage, providing a comfortable seat that conforms to the subject's appendage. The body can be a monolithic, one-piece structure constructed from a closed cell foam. The body can include integral stiffening structures that enhance its rigidity yet still enable the basin to be flexible when adjacent another appendage or body portion. The basin can include a sloped bottom to direct fluids toward an outlet port for draining, and baffles projecting from the bottom. The basin can include a reticulated foam insert positioned adjacent the bottom, on the baffles, where the insert minimizes splash back yet adequately captures debris and other items washed from the appendage. | 09-22-2011
