20080286700 | HIGH RESOLUTION PATTERNING OF SURFACE ENERGY UTILIIZING HIGH RESOLUTION MONOMOLECULAR RESIST FOR FABRICATION OF PATTERNED MEDIA MASTERS - A method for patterning and forming very small structures on a substrate such as a wafer. The process uses a difference in surface energy between a mask and the substrate to selectively deposit a hard mask material such as a metal onto the surface of the substrate. The mask can be formed extremely thin, such as only an atomic mono-layer thick, and can be patterned by ion beam photolithography. The pattern can, therefore, be formed with extremely high resolution. The thin mask layer can be constructed of various materials and can be constructed of perfluoropolyether diacrylate (PDA), which can be dip coated to and exposed to form a desirable positive photoresist mask layer. | 11-20-2008 |
20090061735 | SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IN-SITU RECORDING HEAD BURNISHING - Systems and methods are provided for burnishing a recording head in-situ in a magnetic recording disk drive. The burnishing process generates a tribocurrent, which is electricity generated by the rubbing of dissimilar materials. Different materials exhibit widely different tribocurrent characteristics while in sliding contact. The tribocurrent thus acts as an indicator of the particular materials of the recording head making contact with the magnetic recording media during different stages of the burnishing process. The tribocurrent is thus monitored to determine when it reaches a threshold value. The threshold value indicates that the burnishing has exposed a particular material of the recording head. Thus, the burnishing process may be stopped upon the tribocurrent reaching the threshold value so that the read sensor of the recording head is not burnished and inadvertently damaged. | 03-05-2009 |

20090284869 | COMPLIANT AIR BEARING SLIDER - A compliant, flexible air bearing slider (ABS) reduces the contact forces between the slider and disk, thereby reducing excessive burnishing and wear and increasing the reliability of the slider. According to an embodiment, an ABS has at least one “compliance-enhancing feature” which reduces the bending mode vibration frequency of the slider. By causing the slider to flex, and bringing the bending mode vibration frequency closer to the pitch 2 eigenmode frequency, coupling of the different vibration modes can be obtained. Thus, the different vibration modes can effectively dampen each other and result in reduced contact forces between the slider and disk. | 11-19-2009 |

RF sinusoidal waveforms between 10 and 50 GHz have been found suitable for media writing assist functions for either asymmetric or symmetric current feed and differential mode configuration. Data derived signals obtained by passing the data pulse train though high pass filtration has been found to provide both head switching assist and media writing assist functionality. Data derived signals can be used with or without the RF signals. | 04-21-2011 |
20110090596 | Integrated half coil structure for write assist of high coercivity media - A structure for providing two write assist components for perpendicular thin film heads writing to high coercivity media is disclosed. The two components provided by the present invention include a media writing assist component and a head switching assist component. The structure includes an auxiliary half coil surrounding the pole tip at the ABS, and includes conductive elements running parallel to the pole layer which are connected to the auxiliary half coil. Integrated heat sinks located at either the ABS or at a recessed position are provided.
