20120099097SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR UNIFORM AND LOCALIZED WALL THICKNESS MEASUREMENT USING FIBER OPTIC SENSORS - A system and method are provided for determining wall thickness of a structure such as a metallic pressurized pipe. The system includes an optical fiber having a plurality of Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs), and a mounting for securing the FBGs over discrete portions of the exterior surface of the pipe such that strain in the pressurized pipe wall is transmitted to the FBGs. The system further includes a light source and a light sensor coupled to an end of the optical fiber. The light sensor converts light reflected back from the FBGs into electrical signals that a digital processor converts into strain measurements. The FBGs are mounted around portions of the pipe expected to have significant metal loss as well as portions of the pipe expected to have negligible metal loss. The method includes at least one of comparing relative strains at locations with negligible metal loss to those with significant metal loss to accurately determine the thickness of the wall with metal loss; compensating for temperature effects by considering relative strains at areas of the pipe with and without metal loss; and measuring axial strain on the pipe with one or more of the FBGs to correct for at least one of bending and torsion effects on hoop strain.04-26-2012

20090294644DYNAMIC MULTIPLEXED ANALYSIS METHOD USING ION MOBILITY SPECTROMETER - A method for multiplexed analysis using ion mobility spectrometer in which the effectiveness and efficiency of the multiplexed method is optimized by automatically adjusting rates of passage of analyte materials through an IMS drift tube during operation of the system. This automatic adjustment is performed by the IMS instrument itself after determining the appropriate levels of adjustment according to the method of the present invention. In one example, the adjustment of the rates of passage for these materials is determined by quantifying the total number of analyte molecules delivered to the ion trap in a preselected period of time, comparing this number to the charge capacity of the ion trap, selecting a gate opening sequence; and implementing the selected gate opening sequence to obtain a preselected rate of analytes within said IMS drift tube.12-03-2009
20090294662Ion funnel ion trap and process - An ion funnel trap is described that includes a inlet portion, a trapping portion, and a outlet portion that couples, in normal operation, with an ion funnel. The ion trap operates efficiently at a pressure of ˜1 Torr and provides for: 1) removal of low mass-to-charge (m/z) ion species, 2) ion accumulation efficiency of up to 80%, 3) charge capacity of ˜10,000,000 elementary charges, 4) ion ejection time of 40 to 200 μs, and 5) optimized variable ion accumulation times. Ion accumulation with low concentration peptide mixtures has shown an increase in analyte signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) of a factor of 30, and a greater than 10-fold improvement in SNR for multiply charged analytes.12-03-2009
20110127417SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COLLISIONAL ACTIVATION OF CHARGED PARTICLES - A collision cell is disclosed that provides ion activation in various selective modes. Ion activation is performed inside selected segments of a segmented quadrupole that provides maximum optimum capture and collection of fragmentation products. The invention provides collisional cooling of precursor ions as well as product fragments and further allows effective transmission of ions through a high pressure interface into a coupled mass analysis instrument.06-02-2011
20110248160SYSTEM AND PROCESS FOR PULSED MULTIPLE REACTION MONITORING - A new pulsed multiple reaction monitoring process and system are disclosed that uses a pulsed ion injection mode for use in conjunction with triple-quadrupole instruments. The pulsed injection mode approach reduces background ion noise at the detector, increases amplitude of the ion signal, and includes a unity duty cycle that provides a significant sensitivity increase for reliable quantitation of proteins/peptides present at attomole levels in highly complex biological mixtures.10-13-2011

20120016441DEVICE FOR ELECTRIC PULSE STIMULATION OF HEALING OF WOUNDS - A device that improves the efficiency of the treatment process, shortens healing time, and treats large-area wound surfaces and various forms of local inflammatory processes comprising an HF generator, power source, timer, pedal, electronic module control device, and a device for delivering exposure energy from the generator to biological tissue, wherein the pedal is pressed, a signal arrives at a timer and electronic module for controlling a device for the metered movement of a needle electrode. By means of this module, movement to a specified depth can be ensured. After the needle electrode is inserted into biological tissue, a signal to turn on the HF generator is sent automatically from the timer and a movement sensor. The current of the HF generator is modulated by a modulator that is fed to needle electrode. The timer turns off the HF generator, and the needle electrode is extracted from the biological tissue.01-19-2012
