20090318841GASTROINTESTINAL CAPSULE - An ingestible gastrointestinal capsule (GIC) for mechanically stimulating a segment of the gastrointestinal (GI) wall by alternately and repeatedly pressurizing, and/or vibrating it is provided. The GIC is programmed to being activated following a predefined time delay. The activated GIC agitates, shakes, rattles, jolts, vibrates and/or moves in a reciprocal expanding and contracting motion thereby mechanically stimulating the adjacent segment of the GI wall at a targeted location. Activation of the GIC may include a number of automatically accomplished partial activations, such as when the time elapsed from the moment of setting the GIC on equals a predefined time delay; when the mechanical load applied onto the GIC exceeds, and/or gets lower than a respective predefined level of mechanical load; when the ambient pH reaches a predefined level, or changes, and/or a temperature associated with the user reaches a predefined threshold. Agitation is accomplished by means of agitation means embedded in the GIC. Such agitation means includes an unbalanced weight attached to the shaft of an electric motor, an actuator implemented by, such as an electric solenoid, an electro-active polymer (EAP), a dielectric elastomer actuator (DEA), embedded in a GIC of the invention.12-24-2009

20120120972Quantum Cascade Lasers with Electrically Tunable Emission Wavelengths - The present invention provides a QCL device with an electrically controlled refractive index through the Stark effect. By changing the electric field in the active area, the energy spacing between the lasing energy levels may be changed and, hence, the effective refractive index in the spectral region near the laser wavelength may be controlled.05-17-2012

20090290967End Effector - An apparatus for transporting a substrate is provided. The apparatus includes an upper portion housing an electric motor, the electric motor having a drive shaft. A motor housing encloses the electric motor. A pivot bracket having a first end and a second end, where the first end of the pivot bracket is coupled to the drive shaft. The apparatus includes a lower portion having a top surface affixed to the second end of the pivot bracket. The lower portion includes a plurality of paddle assemblies each having support extensions extending though a bearing assembly of the lower portion. Each of the paddle assemblies has an independent drive assembly disposed between corresponding support extensions, wherein the lower portion translates between a vertical and horizontal orientation by pivoting around an axis of the drive shaft.11-26-2009

20080205640Digital content delivery system and method - A system and a method for flexible, yet secure distribution of digital content items, optionally with an automatic payment mechanism for purchasing such content. The present invention supports the distribution of content to end user devices from a central distribution point, as in client-server models and variations thereof, and/or peer-to-peer distribution, for example between end user devices. In addition, the present invention also supports distribution models within either of these mechanisms for unitary distribution, to a specified end user device, or broadcast/multicast distribution, to a plurality of end user devices. In any case, in order for the distributed content to be operative, for example to be “played back” or otherwise displayed, the recipient end user device must be in communication with a network control center. The network control center then enables the recipient end user device to play back or otherwise display the received content, for example by sending a code to the recipient end user device. Optionally, the network control center may require payment to be received before enabling the content for the recipient end user device. Thus, the present invention supports flexible distribution of content according to a number of different distribution models, while still preventing unauthorized play back or other display throughout the lifecycle of the digital content item, and optionally enabling assured payments.08-28-2008

20100190737COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING INOSINE AND OROTIC ACID AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF FOR THE TREATMENT OF CERTAIN HEART CONDITIONS AND ENHANCEMENT OF WORK CAPACITY - The invention comprises a composition of inosine and orotic acid or a salt thereof, and its methods of use in treating, maintaining and enhancing the health of the heart, and specifically the integrity of the myocardium. The effective combination of inosine and orotic acid/orotate effectively improves various medical parameters that are widely used to assess cardiac function and structure. These include EKG and VCG recordings, quantitative assessments of work capacity and athletic performance, clinically relevant observations, and direct biochemical, histological and ultrastructural analyses. The observations and controlled studies in mice, rats, rabbits, cardiology patients and high performance human athletes (cyclists) consistently support the effectiveness of the combination of inosine and orotic acid/orotate in both preventing and reversing damage to the myocardium resulting from physical stress.07-29-2010

20090100405SYNCHRONIZING AN ABSTRACT MODEL AND SOURCE CODE - A software synchronization system detects a change that modifies an element of the abstract model. The software synchronization system globally modifies references to the element throughout the abstract model. Then the software synchronization system automatically determines elements of the source code that are dependent on the changed model element. The software synchronization system modifies the determined elements of the source code. Thus, the software synchronization system synchronizes the abstract model and the source code, regardless of the one to which the developer makes changes.04-16-2009
