VIA FERRATA SAFETY SYSTEM - The present invention relates to a via ferrata safety system that improves user safety by increasing the reliable activation of the energy absorption system. The via ferrata system includes a harness coupling member, two fixed cable coupling members, and an energy absorption system. The energy absorption system is coupled to both the harness coupling member and the two fixed cable coupling members. The two fixed cable coupling members are independently coupled to the energy absorption system and to one another. The coupling between the two fixed cable coupling members is proportionally weaker than the independent coupling between the two fixed cable coupling members and the energy absorption system. This proportional weakness of the coupling between the fixed cable coupling members allows each of the fixed cable coupling members to act independently in the event that one of the cable coupling members is coupled to a point between the user and the energy absorption system. | 09-24-2009
WIRE-GATE CARABINER - One embodiment of the present invention relates to an improved wire-gate carabiner system including a frame, gate, and gate biasing system. The gate is pivotably coupled to the frame across an opening to form a continuously enclosed inner region in a closed configuration. The gate may be referred to as a wire-type gate in that it includes an arch and two ends. The arch is looped over a hook disposed on the keyed region of the frame in the closed configuration. The two ends are pivotably coupled to the frame at two independent gate coupling points on the pivot region so as to utilize the torsional rigidity of the gate structure as the gate biasing system. The keyed region of the frame includes a hook and a cover. The cover is oriented and shaped to laterally shield the arch and hook from undesirable couplings. | 06-16-2011
MULTI-CHAMBER CARABINER - One embodiment of the present invention relates to an automatically locking carabiner system including a frame, a gate, a gate biasing system, and a gate locking system. The frame and gate form a continuously enclosed inner region in a closed configuration with respect to the frame. When in an engaged state, the gate locking system is configured to automatically lock the gate in the closed configuration with respect to the frame. The gate locking system may include a trigger coupled to the frame such that the position of the trigger corresponds to the state of the gate locking system. The trigger may be positioned on an opposite side of the frame from the gate with respect to the inner region. The force required to disengage the gate locking system may be substantially opposite that which is required to transition the gate to the open configuration with respect to the frame. | 06-16-2011

PROTECTION DEVICE STEM DESIGN - The present invention relates to a connection system for use with an active or passive protection device that minimizes weight. In accordance with the present invention, a single stem connection system for use with an active protection device includes a single bent cable that is attached to the single cable terminal of the active protection device. A stem tube is fitted over a portion of the bent cable giving the appearance and benefits of a single stem. However, a portion of the bent cable is left separated thereby automatically forming a clip-in point for the entire active protection device. Unlike conventional single stem connection systems, the single stem system in accordance with the present invention only requires coupling the cable to the cable terminal thereby reducing manufacturing cost and minimizing overall weight. Alternatively, a similar connection system can be used with a passive protection device to provide many of the same benefits. | 02-19-2009

PORTABLE APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MAKING A GUTTER COVER - A gutter and cover system includes a cover that may be mounted to the preexisting gutter at the edge of a roof. The cover system includes a cover member having an upper pooling portion and an edge flange and lip that provide for dripping of water over the flange and off the lip into the gutter through surface tension. The cover is supported on a series of spaced apart brackets that include a cover mounting portion that aligns with the flange and keeps the cover at a proper orientation to cause pooling. The cover is a seamless cover that is cut to length and includes a cover forming system forming the cover from a coil of blank material. As the cover mounts directly to the mounting bracket, a mounting flange is not needed and only one edge of the blank material is deformed. The material is aligned against one edge and fed through a series of forming bearings and rollers to gradually bend the edge of the material into the shape of a flange and a lower lip drip. The system is lightweight and more mobile than prior systems as fewer stations are needed to deform the cover as only the first edge is deformed. | 06-16-2011

Compositions and Methods for Tumor-Targeted Delivery of Effector Molecules - The present application discloses the preparation and use of attenuated tumor-targeted bacteria vectors for the delivery of one or more primary effector molecule(s) to the site of a solid tumor. The primary effector molecule(s) of the invention is used in the methods of the invention to treat a solid tumor cancer such as a carcinoma, melanoma, lymphoma, or sarcoma. The invention relates to the surprising discovery that effector molecules, which may be toxic when administered systemically to a host, can be delivered locally to tumors by attenuated tumor-targeted bacteria with reduced toxicity to the host. The application also discloses to the delivery of one or more optional effector molecule(s) (termed secondary effector molecules) which may be delivered by the attenuated tumor-targeted bacteria in conjunction with the primary effector molecule(s). | 07-02-2009

Phosphate-bearing prodrugs of sulfonyl hydrazines as hypoxia-selective antineoplastic agents - Novel phosphate-bearing prodrugs of sulfonyl hydrazines have the formula presented below. Methods of treatment of cancer are claimed. The aforementioned prodrugs include enantiomers, stereoisomers and tautomers thereof, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts or solvates and metabolites from all stages. The aforementioned prodrugs are preferentially activated in hypoxic tumors and can be given either alone, or in combination with other anticancer agents or with phototheraphy or radiotherapy. | 03-19-2009
