The aqueous non-ionic hydrophilic polyurethane dispersion according to instant invention includes the reaction product of a non-ionic hydrophilic prepolymer, water, optionally an external surfactant, and optionally a chain-extending reagent. The non-ionic hydrophilic prepolymer includes the reaction product of a first component and a second component. The first component is selected from the group consisting of an aromatic polyisocyanate, an aliphatic polyisocyanate, and combinations thereof. The second component is a hydrophilic alkylene oxide polyol, a non-ionic hydrophilic alkylene oxide monol, or combinations thereof. The device for producing dispersions includes a first stator, a second stator, a shell encasing the first stator and the second stator, a rotor being disposed therebetween the first stator and the second stator thereby forming a first chamber and a second chamber, at least one first inlet port into the first chamber, and at least one outlet port out of the second chamber. The device may optionally include at least one additional second inlet port into the second chamber. The method of producing a polyurethane dispersion includes the following steps: (1) providing a device for producing a dispersion including a first stator, a second stator, a shell encasing the first stator and the second stator, a rotor being disposed therebetween the first stator and the second stator thereby forming a first chamber and a second chamber, at least one first inlet port into the first chamber, at least one outlet port out of the second chamber; and optionally one or more additional second inlet ports into the second chamber; (2) introducing a prepolymer phase and an aqueous phase into the first chamber via the first inlet ports; (3) emulsifying the prepolymer phase in the aqueous phase; (4) thereby producing a prepolymer emulsion; (5) introducing a chain extender agent into the emulsion in the second chamber via the second inlet port; (6) chain extending the prepolymer; and (7) thereby producing a polyurethane dispersion.12-17-2009

The ultra-high solid content polyurethane dispersion includes the reaction product of: (1) a first component, wherein the first component is a first polyurethane prepolymer or a first polyurethane prepolymer emulsion; (2) a second component, wherein the second component is a second polyurethane prepolymer, a second polyurethane prepolymer emulsion, a low solid content polyurethane dispersion, a seed latex, or combinations thereof; (3) and a chain extender. 20110077350COMPOSITE DISPERSION, METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME, AND ARTICLES MADE THEREFROM - The instant invention is a composite dispersion, method of producing the same, and articles made therefrom. The composite dispersion according to the instant invention comprises (1) a first seed dispersion comprising (a) a first internal phase; and (b) an external phase, and (2) a second internal phase; wherein the composite dispersion comprises more than 60 percent by the combined weight of the first internal phase and the second internal phase, and the composite dispersion has a viscosity of less than 10,000 cP measured by RV4 spindle at 20 rpm at greater than 60 weight percent total internal phase, and wherein the composite dispersion has a bimodal particle size distribution and a particle size ratio (P2/P1) in the range of 2 to 200. The first internal phase comprises a first hydrophobic material selected from the group consisting of alkyd, silicone, polyolefin, polyurethane, epoxy, emulsion polymer, and polyester. The external phase comprises water. The second internal phase comprises a second hydrophobic material selected from the group consisting of alkyd, silicone, polyurethane prepolymer, epoxy, and polyester. The process for producing a composite dispersion according to the instant invention comprises the steps of: (1) selecting a first internal phase comprising a first hydrophobic material selected from the group consisting of alkyd, silicone, polyolefm, polyurethane, epoxy, emulsion polymer, polyester; (2) selecting an external phase comprising water; (3) contacting the first hydrophobic material with the external phase; (4) thereby producing a first seed dispersion; (5) contacting the first seed dispersion and a second internal phase comprising a second hydrophobic material selected from the group consisting of alkyd, silicone, polyurethane prepolymer, epoxy, polyester; (6) thereby forming the composite dispersion, wherein the composite dispersion comprises more than 60 percent by the combined weight of the first internal phase and the second internal phase, and wherein the composite dispersion has a viscosity of less than 10,000 cP measured by RV4 spindle at 20 rpm at greater than 60 weight percent total internal phase, and wherein the composite dispersion has a bimodal particle size distribution and a particle size ratio (P2/P1) in the range of 2 to 200.
