20100318985CONTEXTUAL DISCOVERY OF VALUE-ADDED COMPONENTS - Embodiments of methods and systems of providing contextual discovery of value-added components or add-ins of an application are disclosed. In conjunction with a startup of the application, indicators for each available value-added component for the application may be contextually displayed on a user interface of a first computing device, where the indicators are undifferentiated based on installation status of the value-added components. Upon a user selection of a particular value-added component that is not currently installed, the value-added component may be obtained from a second computing device and may be installed. The end-user is thus provided with an integrated seamless, contextual discovery and installation of desired value-added components on an as-needed basis. The methods and systems may be based on varying levels of permission, and may be performed for sub-components of value-added components.12-16-2010

20110289596RESTRICTING ACCESS TO VOLUMES - Architecture that provides programmatic association of a device (e.g., removable) to a currently logged-in user, and restricts access to the drive only to that particular logged-in user. When active, the architecture detects when devices are added to the system, determines which logged-in user a given device (or devices) should be assigned, modifies the security settings for the device(s), and makes a per-user drive letter mapping to that device such that only the logged-in user can see the mapped device. In the context of serially attachable peripheral devices such as USB (universal serial bus) devices (and IEEE 1394 devices), for example, access can be restricted to a user based on the USB hub into which the device is connected. This prevents the operating system from assigning a global drive letter to a device or device volume (for drives) when the device is added.11-24-2011

20090197238EDUCATIONAL CONTENT PRESENTATION SYSTEM - An educational content presentation system and a file format for facilitating learning in that presentation system are provided. The presentation system receives an archival file, such as a ZIP file, that comprises a manifest, one or more activities, and one or more libraries. The manifest associates activities with educational content in the one or more libraries. Some or all the educational content in the library can be encrypted to facilitate digital rights management of the content or provide security in learner assessment activities. Activities can then be executed, such as by a Common Language runtime or Java virtual machine, which present the educational content in the associated libraries to facilitate student learning.08-06-2009
20100311031Adaptive Clicker Technique - An adaptive clicker technique is described that provides a standardized polling control and a registration system to support mixed types of clickers and integrate the polling data. One embodiment of the adaptive clicker technique operates as follows. User inputs from more than one type of clicker device (e.g., personal interactive response system device) are received. The inputs from the more than one type of clicker device are formatted with a clicker adapter for each type of clicker to adapt user inputs to a common polling controller. The adapted inputs are then processed with the common polling controller to interface the adapted inputs with a personal response system software application to allow user polling data to be collected and assessed.12-09-2010
20110202750RULE-BASED ASSIGNMENT OF CONTROL OF PERIPHERALS OF A COMPUTING DEVICE - Described herein are various techniques and principles for determining how to assign control of peripherals and assigning control of peripherals. In some embodiments, determining how to assign control of peripherals comprises reviewing connections of peripherals to the computing device and evaluating rules to determine management points in the connections. In some cases, the connections of peripherals to the computing device may be organized into a hierarchy corresponding to a hierarchy of physical connections of the peripherals, including physical connections of peripherals located remote from the computing device and possibly connected through another computing device. When management points are identified among the connections, control of peripherals associated with the management points may be assigned in the same way. For example, access rights to each of the peripherals may be assigned to a same user session.08-18-2011

20090126497Monitoring of Independent Vibrators - In a first embodiment of the present invention a method of monitoring individual vibrators in a pneumatic vibration testing system is disclosed. The method includes providing a pneumatic vibration testing system including at least one vibrator, where each vibrator is connected to a pressurized air system through an output of a valve. Pressurized air is then supplied at a known pressure to an input of the valve. When that air is supplied to the valve the valve releases air in measured bursts to the vibrator and the pressure between the valve and the vibrator is monitored. The pressure between the valve and the vibrator is compared to the known pressure, which indicates if the vibrator is failing or has failed. In preferred embodiments, the testing system includes a plurality of vibrators and an equal plurality of valves, each vibrator is connected to the pressurized air system through a single associated valve.05-21-2009
20090260444APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR VIBRATORY TESTING - A method of operating a vibratory testing apparatus is disclosed including providing a table frame with at least one vibrator attached thereto and attaching the at least one vibrator to a solenoid valve, wherein an input of the solenoid valve is connected to a pneumatic air supply and an output of the valve is connected to the vibrator. The solenoid valve is connected to a controller and a first control signal is sent from the controller to the solenoid valve for opening the valve and allowing a first burst of air to the vibrator thereby causing the vibrator to vibrate the table frame at a first amplitude. Then a second control signal is sent from the controller to the solenoid valve for opening the valve and allowing a second burst of air to the vibrator thereby causing the vibrator to vibrate the table frame at a second amplitude.10-22-2009
