SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING HYBRID ON DEMAND SERVICES TO A WORK UNIT - The present document describes a method and system for providing Hybrid On Demand (HOD) software and/or data to a plurality of normal nodes associated with a work unit. The normal nodes are serviced via two or more parent nodes using different communication networks. Normal nodes, which are connected to the Local Area Network (LAN) of the work unit, may receive software and/or data services from a local node via the LAN, and normal nodes which are outside of the LAN may receive software and/or data services from a SUPR node via a Wide Area Network (WAN) such as the internet. After synchronization with one the normal nodes, the parent nodes synchronize the updated data with each other, and then they push the updated data to all the normal nodes associated with the work unit to mirror the same data on all the normal nodes. Frequencies of synchronization and provision of software and/or data services and/or updates is governed by a set of synchronization rules that are embedded in the business layer of the nodes. This scenario may also be used for synchronizing data in a cache cloud manner between the different nodes of the wide and the local networks. | 12-01-2011

METHOD FOR ASSISTING IN MAKING A DECISION ON BIOMETRIC DATA - The present invention relates to a method for assisting a user in making a decision to compare biometric data of an individual with data from a database relating to a large number of individuals, and biometric data is acquired for an individual concerned, that this data is encoded, that the data items are compared in pairs with corresponding data from the database, that, for each comparison score the duplicate occurrence frequency/non-duplicate occurrence frequency ration is established, that the product of all the available ratios is calculated, that this product is standardized, that the standardized ratio is compared to a pre-set threshold, that the values greater than the pre-set threshold are kept and that this result is submitted to the user for him to validate it as appropriate. | 05-03-2012

Method of Treating Water by Ballasted Flocculation/Settling, Which Includes a Continuous Measurement of the Ballast, and Corresponding Installation - A method for treating water in a ballasted flocculation system comprises directing water into a ballasted flocculation zone and adding ballast and a flocculation reagent to the water to form a water-floc mixture. The water-floc mixture is directed into a settling zone to form treated water and sludge containing ballast. The ballast is then directed to a recirculation line where the ballast is recirculated to the ballasted flocculation zone. The method further includes determining the ballast concentration and comparing the ballast concentration with a predetermined threshold value. The rate at which ballast is recirculated to the ballasted flocculation zone is adjusted based on the determined ballast concentration and the predetermined threshold value. A ballasted flocculation system for treating water comprises a ballasted flocculation zone, a water inlet for directing water into the ballasted flocculation zone, and a flocculation reagent inlet for directing flocculation reagent into the ballasted flocculation zone. The system includes a settling zone for separating treated water from sludge containing ballast and a recirculation line for recirculating ballast from the settling zone to the ballasted flocculation zone. A first ballast inlet is operatively connected to the recirculation line for directing ballast into the ballasted flocculation zone. Finally, the system includes a sensor for measuring a parameter of ballast in the system. | 12-17-2009
Water Treatment Process and Plant Using Ballasted Flocculation and Settling - A method for treating wastewater using a ballasted flocculation technique includes continuously measuring the concentration of suspended solids, organic matter or other impurities in the water to be treated prior to directing the water to be treated to a flocculation tank. Based on this measurement, the amount of ballast necessary to obtain treated water of a predetermined quality is then calculated. In the flocculation tank, ballast and a flocculating reagent are added to the water to form a water-floc mixture. The water-floc mixture is directed to a settling tank where a sludge-ballast mixture is settled. The sludge-ballast mixture is directed to a mixing tank and then to a separator to separate the ballast from the sludge. The separated ballast is directed to the flocculation tank. The separated sludge is directed to the mixing tank when the level of sludge-ballast mixture in the mixing tank is lower than a predetermined level. | 04-22-2010

LUMBER TRANSFER SYSTEM - A lumber transfer system and a method for individually transferring lumbers from a feeding conveyor to an outfeed conveyor. Detectors are used for monitoring a lumber presence along a corridor on a longitudinal conveying surface. Motorized blocking fingers located about the corridor and transversally spaced along the conveying surface are provided and are configured for moving between blocking and unblocking positions. A controller is also provided, the controller having at least one input for receiving detecting signals from the detectors respectively, the detecting signals of the detectors being respectively associated to the motorized blocking fingers. The controller also has at least one output for sending independent control signals to the motorized blocking fingers respectively, in response to the detecting signals, for moving the respective blocking fingers for which a lumber presence is detected from a blocking to an unblocking position, and otherwise keeping the respective motorized blocking fingers in their blocking position. | 10-07-2010

Tyrosine kinase substrate peptides are provided according to embodiments described herein which include an isolated tyrosine kinase substrate peptide having molecular weight in the range of about 0.5 kD-10 kD. Tyrosine kinase substrate peptides are provided according to embodiments described herein having no more than 50 amino acids. The peptides include 2-25 phosphorylation modules and each phosphorylation module has 2-3 amino acid residues. | 01-21-2010 |
SUBSTRATES FOR GLYCOGEN SYNTHASE KINASE 3 ENZYMES AND METHODS OF USE - Methods and compositions for glycogen synthase kinase 3 assays continue to be required for detection of glycogen synthase 3 kinase, assessment of glycogen synthase 3 kinase activity and identification of modulators of glycogen synthase 3 kinase. Methods and compositions for glycogen synthase kinase 3 assays are provided herein based on the discovery of a previously unknown interaction between glycogen synthase 3 kinase and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E-binding protein 1 which serves as a substrate for glycogen synthase kinase 3-alpha and glycogen synthase kinase 3-beta. | 04-07-2011
