20110215407SEMICONDUCTOR-METAL-ON-INSULATOR STRUCTURES, METHODS OF FORMING SUCH STRUCTURES, AND SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES INCLUDING SUCH STRUCTURES - Methods for fabricating semiconductor-metal-on-insulator (SMOI) structures include forming an acceptor wafer including an insulator material on a first semiconductor substrate, forming a donor wafer including a conductive material and an amorphous silicon material on a second semiconductor substrate, and bonding the amorphous silicon material of the donor wafer to the insulator material of the acceptor wafer. SMOI structures formed from such methods are also disclosed, as are semiconductor devices including such SMOI structures.09-08-2011

20090252999Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Process and Apparatus - Conveying gas containing sulfur through a sulfur tolerant planar solid oxide fuel cell (PSOFC) stack for sulfur scrubbing, followed by conveying the gas through a non-sulfur tolerant PSOFC stack. The sulfur tolerant PSOFC stack utilizes anode materials, such as LSV, that selectively convert H10-08-2009
20100248330Flow-Controlling Header - An apparatus and method for holding a membrane, screen or other flexible planar body in tension, while providing a conduit for water or other liquid to flow to the membrane being held. The membrane extends from inside a manifold body that carries the liquid, and the manifold body supports the membrane at one edge while the membrane is pulled in tension. Liquid pressure builds up inside the manifold body, preferably by entering a pressure chamber at the top of the manifold body. At a feeding pressure in the pressure chamber the liquid is distributed to the membrane for microbe growth. The liquid can be elevated to a higher, microbe-harvesting pressure by increasing the pressure in the pressure chamber, thereby deflecting a shim separating the pressure chamber from the membrane. The change in pressure is carried out by manually or automatically opening and closing a conventional water valve.09-30-2010
20120070889HYBRID BIOREACTOR FOR REDUCTION OF CAPITAL COSTS - A bioreactor with first and second containers has translucent sidewalls housing a plurality of planar membranes over which a slurry of water and photosynthetic microorganisms flows. A light collector is mounted adjacent a gap between the first and second containers for receiving incident light and conveying the light through optical waveguides, such as fibers, to distributors. The distributors are mounted in the first and second containers near a lower end of the substrates so that photons incident on the optical waveguides are conveyed through the optical waveguides to the light distributors and then to the lower ends of the substrates where light passing through the translucent sidewalls is less intense.03-22-2012

20080236468Quick Close Security Door System - A security door closure system for cruise ships and other similar public entrance points to prevent terrorist attack or ship take-over is needed. Cruise ship passenger and ship provisioning entrance gangplanks pass through large hydraulically operated shell doors. The gangplank must be removed to close the shell door. The quick close security door system (Door-Gate) is a portable bullet resistant rapid close door system that is placed in conjunction with the gangplank or other entry system, which when closed prevents forced entry. A single lever either remotely or manually operated immediately closes the doors, which then cannot be forced opened from the entrance side.10-02-2008

20120122761METHODS FOR DETECTING A POLYMORPHISM IN THE NFKB1 GENE PROMOTER - The present invention discloses a functional relationship between a recognized disease condition and a polymorphism in the nucleotide factor kappa B promoter (NFKB1). This relationship provides a platform for methods of altering promoter activity and for determining similar relationships between specific pathologies and identified polymorphisms. A statistically significant risk of developing ulcerative colitis was shown to be correlated with the presence of an ATTG insertion/deletion in the NFKB1 promoter and is likely to apply also to a variety of other inflammatory diseases.05-17-2012
