20140051938 | Device to detect and treat Apneas and Hypopnea - A method and apparatus for the treatment of Sleep Apnea events and Hypopnea episodes wherein one embodiment comprises a wearable, belt like apparatus containing a microphone and a plethysmograph. The microphone and plethysmograph generate signals that are representative of physiological aspects of respiration, and the signals are transferred to an imbedded computer. The embedded computer extracts the sound of breathing and the sound of the heart beat by Digital Signal Processing techniques. The embedded computer has elements for determining when respiration parameters falls out of defined boundaries for said respiration parameters. This exemplary method provides real-time detection of the onset of a Sleep Apnea event or Hypopnea episode and supplies stimulation signals upon the determination of a Sleep Apnea event or Hypopnea episode to initiate an inhalation. In one embodiment, the stimulus is applied to the patient by a cutaneous rumble effects actuator and/or audio effects broadcasting. | 02-20-2014 |

20130086095 | MAKING AND USING ABSTRACT XML REPRESENTATIONS OF DATA DICTIONARY METADATA - An XML representation of the metadata for objects in a database system. The XML representation is called SXML. The SXML representations of two objects that belong to the same class of objects may be compared to produce a difference representation that shows the differences between the objects. Database commands that will create or alter objects may be produced from the difference representation, as well as an XML representation of the database commands. In addition to being comparable, SXML representations have the characteristics that a given property of the metadata is expressed in only one way in the representation, that SXML does not describe properties that belong only to particular instances of the object described by the metadata, that SXML describes only properties that the user can specify when creating an object, and that SXML is easy for humans to read, understand, and write. | 04-04-2013 |

20100235503 | Method and apparatus for measuring stream availability, quality and performance - A streaming measurement agent designed to experience, measure, and report on a media stream as an actual end user would experience the stream. Preferably, agent resides transparently within a streaming media player itself so that it can monitor stream packet flows within the player as the measured streams are being played. In an illustrative embodiment, the agent comprises a performance monitoring module (PMM), which is software that resides in an interface between an existing core module and a renderer of a media player. The agent PMM intercepts each useful packet as it goes from the core to the renderer and, as a result, it is able to compute quality metrics about the playback. The agent functions “transparently” to the media player by presenting the core with an application programming interface (API) that emulates the API that the renderer normally presents to the core. Thus, when the core believes it is calling the renderer, it is actually calling the agent PMM, which can then receive all the packets from the core and process them. After computing relevant performance metrics using the packets it receives, the agent PMM calls the renderer. A set of performance agents can be managed by a service provider to enable a content provider to determine how a stream is perceived by end users. | 09-16-2010 |

20090072970 | SAFETY SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONVENTIONAL LIGHTING FIXTURES - A safety device is incorporated within conventional lighting fixtures, such as table lamps, floor lamps, wall lighting fixtures, ceiling lighting fixtures, chandeliers, recessed lighting fixtures, and decorative lighting fixture structural members such as ceiling medallions. The safety device incorporates several safety function response mechanisms within conventional lighting fixtures to conceal or obfuscate their presence. The safety device provides power failure lighting, alert signals in response to gas, smoke, fire, intrusion, and any other externally generated alarm signal. It may also provide night lighting. The safety device may include a safety module having a light and/or audio source, a power sensing circuit, a control circuit, and a light sensing circuit. | 03-19-2009 |
20090284384 | Unobtrusive Power Failure Lighting System - An Unobtrusive Power Failure Lighting system is described where a power failure light, is integrated with an electric wiring device and its associated cover plate. An electric wiring device with an electric circuit is described. A cover plate with features for emitting light is also described. The electric wiring device is in communication with the cover plate through a first and second interface. A wireless power system is also described as one implementation of the first and second interface. The cover plate may contain a variety of components allowing the system designer to expand the functionality of the system while keeping manufacturing complexity low. The system is modularly designed to overcome size and space limitations found when combining the multiple safety functions and controls into an electric wiring device that fits into conventional electric work boxes. | 11-19-2009 |

20090139869 | EFAB Methods and Apparatus Including Spray Metal or Powder Coating Processes - Various embodiments of the invention present techniques for forming structures via a combined electrochemical fabrication process and a thermal spraying process or powder deposition processes. In a first set of embodiments, selective deposition occurs via masking processes (e.g. a contact masking process or adhered mask process) and thermal spraying or powder deposition is used in blanket deposition processes to fill in voids left by selective deposition processes. In a second set of embodiments, after selective deposition of a first material, a second material is blanket deposited to fill in the voids, the two depositions are planarized to a common level and then a portion of the first or second materials is removed (e.g. by etching) and a third material is sprayed into the voids left by the etching operation. In both embodiments the resulting depositions are planarized to a desired layer thickness in preparation for adding additional layers. | 06-04-2009 |

20080247529 | Incoming Call Classification And Disposition - Incoming calls or other messages are automatically categorized and handled based on information gleaned from one or more of the following sources: user location (available contact modes, available contact devices), user-specified preferences, a dialog with the caller, and direct interaction with the callee over a non-telephonic channel. Based on speech recognition of dialog information with the caller and one or more of presence or location information, static rules and direct callee interaction, the disposition of an incoming call is determined by an automated Personal Virtual Assistant. | 10-09-2008 |
20080247530 | Outgoing call classification and disposition - An automated intelligent component (the Personal Virtual Assistant or PVA) is located between a caller and a callee. A caller calls the PVA and directs the PVA to make one or more calls to one or more call recipients. Based on the information obtained from a voice or text dialog with the caller and a combination of other available informational sources, the disposition of an outgoing call is determined and acted upon by PVA. During the call the PVA remains available to take further actions at the request of the call participants. | 10-09-2008 |
20080249778 | Communications Using Different Modalities - Communications between users of different modalities are enabled by a single integrated platform that allows both the input of voice (from a telephone, for example) to be realized as text (such as an interactive text message) and allows the input of text (from the interactive text messaging application, for example) to be realized as voice (on the telephone). Real-time communication may be enabled between any permutation of any number of text devices (desktop, PDA, mobile telephone) and voice devices (mobile telephone, regular telephone, etc.). A call to a text device user may be initiated by a voice device user or vice versa. | 10-09-2008 |

20140249817 | Identification using Audio Signatures and Additional Characteristics - Techniques for using both speaker-identification information and other characteristics associated with received voice commands to determine how and whether to respond to the received voice commands. A user may interact with a device through speech by providing voice commands. After beginning an interaction with the user, the device may detect subsequent speech, which may originate from the user, from another user, or from another source. The device may then use speaker-identification information and other characteristics associated with the speech to attempt to determine whether or not the user interacting with the device uttered the speech. The device may then interpret the speech as a valid voice command and may perform a corresponding operation in response to determining that the user did indeed utter the speech. If the device determines that the user did not utter the speech, however, then the device may refrain from taking action on the speech. | 09-04-2014 |
