20100250813Safety-oriented Automation System Having Automatic Address Recovery - An industrial automation system for controlling the operating means of a technical process. The system includes fail-safe modules for interchanging process data with the operating means, i.e., actuating and measurement signals, stations having slots for modules, which slots are inter-connected by a backplane bus, a central processing unit at least for processing process signals from the technical process, and a field bus for transmitting data between the central processing unit and the stations. In accordance with the invention, the address relationship for the addressing of a fail-safe module by the central processing unit over the field bus for data processing purposes is permanently stored in a first memory in the respective module and is additionally permanently backed-up in the associated station. As a result, it is advantageously possible to safely and automatically recover the address relationships of fail-safe modules due to address relationships which have already been recognized as valid, such as during planning, being backed-up in a permanent, power-failure-safe manner at the station level. In addition, it is possible, when a module is exchanged, for a new module to reload the correct address relationships of the old module, which is no longer present, from the back-up means in the station.09-30-2010

20100032565ELECTRON MICROSCOPE AND A METHOD FOR MEASURING THE DEFOCUS VARIATION OR THE LIMIT RESOLUTION - An electron microscope and a method for measuring the defocus spread or the limiting resolution of an electron microscope takes advantage of the fact that, in the case of tilted illumination, any aberration that may be present and the defocus spread of the electron microscope anisotropically change the intensity distribution in the diffractogram. In particular, the envelope of the diffractogram is anisotropically narrowed. If both the tilt of the electron beam and any aberration that may be present are known, and the focus distribution is assumed to be Gaussian-shaped, the defocus spread of the electron microscope is the only parameter still unknown that influences the anisotropic changes in intensity distribution. Quantitative conclusions as to the defocus spread can thus be drawn from the changes. However, the focus distribution can also be determined from the anisotropic narrowing without the use of a model, and without a priori assumptions about the shape thereof. In this way, the limiting resolution of the electron microscope can be determined.02-11-2010

20090268969METHOD AND ELECTRON MICROSCOPE FOR MEASURING THE SIMILARITY OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL IMAGES - Disclosed is a method for measuring the similarity of two-dimensional images, at least one image exhibiting an additional signal, the location dependence or symmetry properties of which are known at least approximately. The images are partitioned into mutually identical subimages such that the extension of at least one subimage in the direction of the gradient of the additional signal is smaller than the extension of this subimage in the direction perpendicular thereto. The subimages are compared separately, and the results of all comparisons are combined to form the measurement result for similarity. As a result, the method becomes insensitive to variations in the additional signal. The method is particularly suited for the determination of defocusing and astigmatism of an electron-microscopic image. For this purpose, it is important to compare the similarity of an experimentally measured image to simulated images, which were generated using defined defocusing and astigmatism values.10-29-2009

20090138389DETERMINING THE OCCURRENCE OF EVENTS USING DECISION TREES - The determination of whether an event, such as a taxable event for a commercial transaction, has occurred uses an executable decision tree. The decision tree includes a number of test nodes that each include a comparison field and at least one allowed value. A data value associated with the comparison field is accessed and compared to the allowed values. If the comparison field equals an allowed value, execution proceeds to a child node, and if not, execution proceeds to a sibling node. The child and sibling nodes are either another test node, a result node, or an error node. Execution of the decision tree proceeds until a result node or an error node is reached.05-28-2009

20080226105Method for the time-controlled adjustment of a hearing apparatus and corresponding hearing apparatus - The training of a hearing apparatus in respect of an individual adjustment is to be developed in a more user-friendly manner. To this end, provision is firstly made to automatically classify a hearing situation, to adjust a parameter of the signal processing facility of the hearing apparatus and to automatically learn the adjusted parameters for the current hearing situation. A temporal monitoring of the steps “classifying” and “adjusting” is however carried out here and the automatic learning is only triggered if the classified hearing situation and the adjustment of the parameters have not changed over a predetermined time period. This not only simplifies the training, but also enables a more rapid training by means of automatically triggered training events.09-18-2008
