20110293187SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR EFFICIENT INTERPRETATION OF IMAGES IN TERMS OF OBJECTS AND THEIR PARTS - The present application is a method and system of interpreting an image by finding a configuration of multiple variables which optimizes an objective function with a factorizable upper bound, by applying an iterative algorithm that relies on efficient dynamic ordering of candidate configurations, in a priority queue, in a descending order of an upper bound score. As an example, consider a constellation model for an object. It specifies the appearance models for individual parts of objects, as well as spatial relations among these parts. These are combined into a single function whose value represents the likeness of the object in an image. To find the configuration in which the object is present in the image, we maximize this function over all candidate configurations. The purpose of the iterative algorithm mentioned above is to find such optimal configurations efficiently.12-01-2011

20080287307MULTIWELL PLATE DEVICE - A multiwell plate device is provided having a frame, a substantially flat substrate and a multiwell structure supported by the substrate. The multiwell structure includes multiple bottomless wells formed therein. The substrate is supported by the frame and may be processed by an automated arrayer or instrument that is used to print or spot arrays in a pattern on a reaction surface of the substrate. Thereafter, the multiwell structure may be engaged with the substrate and the multiwell structure and substrate may be engaged with the frame in an upright orientation. For scanning or other analysis, the multiwell structure and substrate may be disengaged from the frame, inverted 180°, and then reengaged with the frame in the inverted orientation.11-20-2008

20090018731PERSONAL COMPUTER CONTROL FOR VEHICLES - A computer control system includes methods and devices for disabling an electronic device, such as a computer, when a mobility status of the vehicle changes. The mobility status may be measured with reference to the vehicle's transmission, parking brake, odometer, speedometer, throttle, engine rpm, or a geographic locating system such as a GPS system. When the mobility status of the vehicle changes to one in which the vehicle is moving, or is more likely to move, the control system disables the electronic device. The control system thus prevents drivers of automobiles and trucks from simultaneously driving while using the electronic device. The system may include one or more override keys and enabling hubs that allow a person to use the device in locations remote from the automobile. The system may also allow the device to be used when it is inside the vehicle but the vehicle's engine has been turned off. The software used by the system includes multiple security features adapted to prevent people from disabling the software such that they would be able to simultaneously drive and use the electronic device.01-15-2009

20100073711METHOD OF MONITORING A SEQUENCE OF DOCUMENTS - A method of monitoring a sequence of documents passing along a transport path is described. The method including: operating a radiation transmitter with a control signal at a first, working, level to cause radiation at a first intensity to impinge on one side of a document as it passes an inspection position in the transport path; receiving at a radiation receiver, radiation from the transmitter that has passed through the document, the radiation receiver generating an output signal with a level related to the intensity of the received radiation; and monitoring the output signal to detect the presence and/or a characteristic of the document. A calibration process is carried out between successive documents, the calibration process including: operating the radiation transmitter with a control signal at a second, calibration, level to cause radiation at a second intensity less than the first intensity to be transmitted towards the receiver, and adjusting the level of the resultant output signal from the receiver to a predetermined value.03-25-2010
