| 20100105112 | FLUOROCARBON EMULSION STABILIZING SURFACTANTS - Surfactants (e.g., fluorosurfactants) for stabilizing aqueous or hydrocarbon droplets in a fluorophilic continuous phase are presented. In some embodiments, fluorosurfactants include a fluorophilic tail soluble in a fluorophilic (e.g., fluorocarbon) continuous phase, and a headgroup soluble in either an aqueous phase or a lipophilic (e.g., hydrocarbon) phase. The combination of a fluorophilic tail and a headgroup may be chosen so as to create a surfactant with a suitable geometry for forming stabilized reverse emulsion droplets having a disperse aqueous or lipophilic phase in a continuous, fluorophilic phase. In some embodiments, the headgroup is preferably non-ionic and can prevent or limit the adsorption of molecules at the interface between the surfactant and the discontinuous phase. This configuration can allow the droplet to serve, for example, as a reaction site for certain chemical and/or biological reactions. In another embodiment, aqueous droplets are stabilized in a fluorocarbon phase at least in part by the electrostatic attraction of two oppositely charged or polar components, one of which is at least partially soluble in the dispersed phase, the other at least partially soluble in the continuous phase. One component may provide collodial stability of the emulsion, and the other may prevent the adsorption of biomolecules at the interface between a component and the discontinous phase. Advantageously, surfactants and surfactant combinations of the invention may provide sufficient stabilization against coalescence of droplets, without interfering with processes that can be carried out inside the droplets. | 04-29-2010 |

| 20110202750 | RULE-BASED ASSIGNMENT OF CONTROL OF PERIPHERALS OF A COMPUTING DEVICE - Described herein are various techniques and principles for determining how to assign control of peripherals and assigning control of peripherals. In some embodiments, determining how to assign control of peripherals comprises reviewing connections of peripherals to the computing device and evaluating rules to determine management points in the connections. In some cases, the connections of peripherals to the computing device may be organized into a hierarchy corresponding to a hierarchy of physical connections of the peripherals, including physical connections of peripherals located remote from the computing device and possibly connected through another computing device. When management points are identified among the connections, control of peripherals associated with the management points may be assigned in the same way. For example, access rights to each of the peripherals may be assigned to a same user session. | 08-18-2011 |

| 20120102451 | COMPUTATIONALLY EFFICIENT SYSTEM FOR DEVELOPING CONFIGURABLE, EXTENSIBLE BUSINESS APPLICATION PRODUCT LINES USING MODEL-DRIVEN TECHNIQUES - The present invention provides a computationally efficient system for developing configurable, extensible business application product lines using model-driven techniques. The invention enables to create a common business application with a set of pre-defined variants, selection of a suitable variant from the pre-defined set, and composition of the common application with the selected variant into a purpose-specific business application and also provides for modeling of commonality and variability thus leading to a single specification. The invention provides model-based solution to address extensibility and configurability of both structural and behavioral aspects in a functionality dimension of database intensive business application and it supports configuration process at three different stages of application development (i.e. design time, installation time and run time) of database intensive business application. The invention reduces the cost as well as computational time for creating new business applications, and leads to effective maintenance and smooth evolution. | 04-26-2012 |

| 20100016995 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DYNAMICALLY PROVIDING FEEDBACK - A method for dynamically providing feedback is presented. The method includes monitoring one or more steps performed by one or more components in a machine, where the one or more steps are associated with a workflow. Further, the method includes analyzing the one or more steps performed by the one or more components to dynamically determine feedback based on the one or more steps performed by the one or more components, where the feedback comprises other steps in the workflow. In addition, the method includes presenting the feedback. Systems and computer-readable medium that afford functionality of the type defined by this method is also contemplated in conjunction with the present technique. | 01-21-2010 |
