20100029145CANTED COIL MULTI-METALLIC WIRE - A canted coil spring made from multi-metallic wire to achieve combinations of desired material characteristics of different metals is discussed. Wire to be used in canted coil springs can have two or more metals oriented co-axially along such wire, such as an outer layer of one metal having one set of properties, and a core of a different metal having a different set of properties, that will achieve a single solid, multi-metallic wire with enhanced performance over a single material canted coil spring. Such features may be found advantageous in electrical applications, such as where both high electrical conductivity and high strength properties are desired.02-04-2010
20100064490APPARATUS INCLUDING A PIN CONNECTOR FOR SECURING A FIRST MEMBER AND A SECOND MEMBER TO ONE ANOTHER, AND ASSOCIATED METHODS - Embodiments of the present apparatus are configured to secure a first member and a second member to one another. The first and second members include a bore extending through at least one of the first and second members and at least partially through the other of the first and second members. The apparatus comprises a pin connector including an enlarged ball portion positioned along a shank. The first member includes an annular groove extending around the bore. A canted coil spring seats within the groove. The apparatus is configured such that the spring exerts a squeezing force on the ball portion when the pin connector is disposed within the bore and the head of the pin connector contacts the second member.03-18-2010
20100237566SEAL ASSEMBLIES FOR MOVABLE AND STATIC SHAFTS - Seal assemblies for sealing around a moveable shaft, such as rotary or reciprocating, or static, are described. The seal assemblies prevent the passage of lubricant or fluid from a relatively high pressure area on a first side of the seal to a relatively low pressure area on a second side of the seal. In some embodiments, these seals are energized by energizers, such as circular springs or canted springs, to keep the seal in contact with the moveable shaft. The seals have primary and secondary seals. The secondary seal provides initial moderate sealing against abrasive particles or contaminants to reduce the exposure and wear of the primary seal.09-23-2010
20100279557WAVE SPRINGS - A circular or plate wave spring that maintains high conductivity under high operating temperatures is provided herein. This is possible due to, at least in part, the conductor being made from a hi-metallic or multi-metallic material which can include a high tensile strength material, such as steel, that maintains strength properties at elevated temperatures cladded with a layer of highly conductive metal, such as copper. The high tensile strength material helps maintain the contact force needed for good conductivity since highly conductive metals and alloys tend to lose their tensile properties at elevated temperatures. The connector is presented here as a wave spring providing inward or outward protrusions for a conductive pin and housing.11-04-2010
20100289198MULTILAYERED CANTED COIL SPRINGS AND ASSOCIATED METHODS - Multilayered canted coil springs and methods that improve mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of canted coil springs. In some embodiments, properties of dissimilar materials are combined into the spring using various material layers. For example, in one embodiment a protective or high strength outer layer material shields a more sensitive inner core material from harsh environments and conditions. The inner core material may be a highly electrically conductive material, with the outer layer material having an electrical conductivity lower than the core. In various embodiments the following characteristics of the spring are improved: electrical and/or thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, temperature resistance, stress relaxation, variable frictional force, and wear resistance in harsh environments and conditions.11-18-2010
20110037234CARTRIDGE SEAL ASSEMBLIES AND ASSOCIATED METHODS - The present cartridge seal assemblies pertain to rotary lip-type seals. In certain embodiments, a sealing member is constructed of a relatively hard material that increases the lifespan of the sealing member. The sealing member is energized with a canted-coil spring, which in some embodiments includes an adjustable spring force. The present embodiments enable control of sealing force to achieve an appropriate sealing force between the sealing member and the shaft based on factors such as temperature, pressure, rotary speed, properties of fluid media, etc. to achieve longer seal life.02-17-2011

20090160139LOCKING MECHANISM WITH QUICK DISASSEMBLY MEANS - A locking tool or device that permits rapid installation and removal of a removable component from a component that is fixed to a housing or equipment. The interchangeable, and hence removable, components may be held in place by individual holders that provide secure axial locking means and quick radial removal means requiring no axial space for the removal of such components from the main base tool.06-25-2009

20090039728CONTACT ASSEMBLY - A contact assembly for making electrical connection between coaxial members generally includes a rotor having a plurality of spaced apart circumferential electrically conductive rings, and a stator surrounding a rotor with a plurality of spaced apart grooves aligned with the plurality of rings at a variable distance therefrom and enabling continuous, or sustained rotation of the rotor within the stator. A plurality of circular canted-coil springs is provided with each spring being disposed and a corresponding groove providing constant force against a corresponding ring independent of the variable distance between the compression ring and the groove. A plurality of electrical leads is provided with each lead being electrically connected to a corresponding ring.02-12-2009
20100028076METHOD FOR CONTROLLING CONNECT AND DISCONNECT FORCES OF A CONNECTOR - A connector includes a housing having a bore with a housing groove disposed on an inside surface of the bore with a groove establishing a release angle between a housing groove bottom and a bore inside surface. A retainer defines a spring cavity between a retainer and the release angle and a circular radial canted coil spring is disposed in the spring cavity. A pin having a tapered end and a body diameter sized for sliding engagement with the bore is provided which includes a circumferential groove in the pin body for receiving the coil spring upon insertion of the pin into the bore. A circumferential groove includes a load angle for rotating the coil spring in an orientation in which the major spring axis is parallel to the release angle upon initial withdrawal of the pin from the bore. The coil is further compressed along the spring minor axis and expands radially upon continued withdrawal of the pin from the bore.02-04-2010
20100051438BALL HOLDING, LATCHING AND LOCKING APPLICATIONS USING RADIAL AND AXIAL SPRINGS BY INCORPORATING ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY AND ELECTRICAL SWITCHINGS - A latching and electrical switch mechanism includes an insulated housing having a cavity therein with an opening thereto along with an electrically conductive ball disposed therein. The ball includes a stem with a smaller diameter than the ball and extends therefrom with a ball being sized for rotational and translational movement within the housing cavity. At least one groove is provided in the housing cavity and a coil spring is disposed in a groove for making electrical contact with the ball and retaining the ball for rotation within the cavity with the stem at selected conical angles with respect to the housing centerline. At least one electrical contact is disposed in the cavity at a spaced apart relationship with the coil spring for providing electrical connection with the ball upon translational movement of the ball within the cavity, which also produces an audible sound.03-04-2010
20100090379SPRING LATCHING CONNECTORS - A spring latching connector includes a housing having a bore therethrough, a piston slidably received in said bore, a circular groove formed in one of said bore and piston and a circular coil spring disposed in said groove for latching said piston and housing together. The groove is sized and shaped for controlling, in combination with a spring configuration, disconnect and connect forces of the spring latching connection.04-15-2010
