20080234060Open sided billiard rack - A billiard rack and method using the rack defining V-shaped ball containment area having a pair of arms each having an outer and inner side, where said arms meet at an apex and have extremities away from the apex that create an arc of approximately 60 degrees, the inner side of each arm extending at least as far as a distance equal to five times the diameter of a standard billiard ball and the outer side or each arm extending at least as far as the distance equal to four times the diameter of a standard billiard ball that is accessible from the top. The radius of curvature of the apex preferably is 1⅛ inches and the distance between the ends of each inner side of each arm is 13⅝ inches and the outer side is 14⅛ inches. In a preferred method, the balls are racked by the user with two thumbs pressing against the balls and the rack is removed by forward movement away from the balls without disturbing the balls.09-25-2008

20090271168Systems and Methods for Stimulating Engineering Projects - Methods and systems for simulating engineering projects are disclosed. A plurality of networked processing devices operable to execute respective software components are provided, wherein the respective software components facilitate the simulation of respective components of the engineering project. A respective memory is associated with each of the plurality of networked processing devices. Each of the respective memories is operable to store simulation data associated with the engineering project that is shared among a plurality of the respective memories. A simulation of the engineering project is initiated by initiating the execution of the respective software components by the plurality of networked processing devices. The simulation is managed based at least in part on synchronizing the execution of the respective software components and updating at least a portion of the shared simulation data stored in the respective memories.10-29-2009

20100259117Dual armature motor/generator with flux linkage between dual armatures and a superconducting field coil - The present invention relates to cylindrical rotating electric machines which comprise armature and field coils, with either the field coil or the dual armature being the rotating component. The dual armature is composed of two concentric cylindrical sets of coils with the field coil situated in the gap between the inner and outer armature sections. Relative rotational motion between the field and armature coils can be achieved by having either one be the rotor. By using two armature coil sections, one inside the field coil aperture and the other external to the field coil, the flux linkage between the armature and superconducting field coil can be approximately doubled. This is a more efficient use of the superconductor. The increased flux linkage in the invented technology produces a substantially higher power density than can be obtained with current conventional superconducting machine technology.10-14-2010

20080271916GASKETS FOR PROTECTING FINGERPRINT READERS FROM ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE SURGES - According to various aspects, exemplary embodiments are provided of gaskets that can protect fingerprint readers from receiving electrostatic discharge surges when a user's finger is placed in contact with the electronic scanning portion of the fingerprint reader. In exemplary embodiments, a gasket can provide an electrically-insulative barrier between the exposed contact points on the sides of the fingerprint reader, the electrostatic discharge, and the electrically-conductive side of the gasket. The gasket can also include an electrically-conductive side that provides a relatively short path to ground for the electrostatic discharge.11-06-2008
20090061683EMI SHIELDING/ELECTRICAL GROUNDING MEMBERS - Exemplary embodiments are provided of EMI shielding/electrical grounding members configured to be installed to a substrate for interposition between electrically-conductive surfaces, for establishing electrical grounding contact from the substrate to the electrically-conductive surfaces. In one exemplary embodiment, an EMI shielding/electrical grounding member generally includes first and second generally opposing sides hingedly connected and having respective first and second contact faces configured such that the first and second contact faces are each relatively independently operable and freely compressible upon contact with the respective first and second electrically-conductive surfaces, regardless of whether the other of said first and second contact faces is in contact with the corresponding first or second electrically-conductive surface.03-05-2009
