20130207713 | Coincident Tracking Turn-On For Mixed Voltage Logic - A method for dealing with high inrush current when voltage is applied to mixed voltage logic integrated circuits is disclosed. A depletion N-Channel Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) or junction Field Effect Transistor (JFET) is added to a linear voltage regulator in mixed voltage logic integrated circuits. The Field Effect Transistor (FET) is utilized to allow the core voltage to come up with Input/Output voltage prior to turn-on of linear voltage regulator. Turn-on state of FET allows the core voltage to rise with Input/Output voltage until the FET threshold is reached across the gate. When threshold is reached, the FET turns off to allow linear voltage regulator turn on and take over supply power. | 08-15-2013 |
20130213252 | Inertial Delay Fuse - An inertial delay mechanism for use in an explosive projectile is provided. The delay mechanism consists of an inertial delay fuse that is precise, doesn't require sensitive primary explosives and doesn't utilize electronic circuitry. The inertial delay fuse includes a free sliding charge element that strikes an anvil located opposite to the sliding charge element. A delay gap is provided between the sliding charge element and the anvil. Upon impact, the sliding charge element slides forward and impacts the anvil, thereby inducing a shock wave in an initiator charge that subsequently results in detonation of main charges. The design is mechanically simple and robust enough to withstand severe g-loading forces that occur during firing and penetration of a projectile. | 08-22-2013 |
20130260703 | ULTRA-WIDEBAND HIGH POWER AMPLIFIER ARCHITECTURE - Techniques and architecture are disclosed for providing an ultra-wideband, multi-channel solid-state power amplifier architecture. In some embodiments, the architecture includes a power divider which splits an input signal and delivers that split signal to a plurality of downstream channel chipsets. Each channel chipset is configured to amplify a sub-band of the original full-band input signal and to provide the resultant amplified sub-band for downstream use, such as for transmission by an antenna operatively coupled with that channel. In the aggregate, the amplified sub-bands provide coverage of the same ultra-wideband frequency range of the original input signal, in some cases. In some embodiments, the architecture provides high radio frequency (RF) power with good amplifying efficiency and ultra-wide instantaneous frequency bandwidth performance in a small-form-factor package. In some instances, control circuitry is provided to control which chipset die(s) are enabled/disabled, thus providing control over gain and power levels of the output signal(s). | 10-03-2013 |
20130281108 | COORDINATED OPTIMIZATION OF UNDERLAY NETWORK COMMUNICATION FOR EFFICIENT USE OF SPECTRUM - A system and method for selecting an optimal frequency channel to communicate on in a wireless network is disclosed. The optimal frequency is selected from a predefined set of frequencies for all nodes to communicate on based on an exposure calculation. All underlay nodes collect initial SNR information from initial detection of other nodes and adjust their transmit power for an intended receiver such that the signal is received at the lowest allowable underlay-to-overlay power ratio, thus minimizing exposure. The desired underlay-to-overlay ratio is set based on how much we are capable of cancelling the overlay signal and the SINR at which a signal can be recovered such that the data can be successfully received from the underlay node. The optimal channel selected by this algorithm is the one with the least area of undesired exposure, or least probability of interfering with the primary user. The performance increases as a function of number of nodes, or data points. | 10-24-2013 |
20130284902 | ANTI-BLOOMING CIRCUIT FOR INTEGRATING PHOTODIODE PRE-AMPLIFIERS - An input clamping circuit of a photo detector preamplifier is activated when an input transistor is turned off by an input overload, and the drain voltage of the input transistor is pulled toward ground by a current source. Even with extreme overloads, the operating conditions (Vgs and Id) of the input transistor remain within normal range. During normal operation, the clamping circuit is biased completely off, and has essentially no effect on circuit performance. Since the input FET itself, rather than a separate device, detects the onset of an overload, significantly improved clamping performance is realized without adding additional circuit complexity. The input transistor can be a FET. The preamplifier can be a cascode preamplifier. The clamping circuit can include a clamping FET or other clamping transistor gated by the input transistor drain. In embodiments, the clamping circuit increases current requirements of the preamplifier by no more than 25%. | 10-31-2013 |
20130295757 | SHORT GATE-LENGTH HIGH ELECTRON-MOBILITY TRANSISTORS WITH ASYMMETRIC RECESS AND SELF-ALIGNED OHMIC ELECTRODES - A method for fabricating InP-based high electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) and GaAs-based metamorphic electron-mobility transistors (MHEMTs) by utilizing asymmetrically recessed Γ-gates and self-aligned ohmic electrodes is disclosed. The fabrication starts with mesa isolation, followed by gate recess and gate metal deposition, in which the gate foot is placed asymmetrically in the recess groove, with the offset towards the source. It is important to use Γ-gates as the shadow mask for ohmic metal deposition, because it allows a source-gate spacing as small as 0.1 micron, greatly reducing the critical source resistance, and it retains a relatively large gate-drain spacing, enabling a decent breakdown voltage when coupled with the asymmetric gate recess. It is also critical to maintain a large stem height of the Γ-gates to assure a sufficient gap between the top of the gates and the ohmic metal after its deposition to reduce the parasitic capacitance. The uniqueness of this technology would best fit the applications that require low voltage and/or low DC power consumption. | 11-07-2013 |

20130335812 | EFFICIENT EXTENDED SHIFT MONOLITHIC RAMAN FIBER LASER - A system and method for producing Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) is disclosed. A single optical fiber or Raman oscillator is optically pumped by a pump laser of sufficient power to generate SRS to generate several Stokes shifts of energy. This generates a multi-wavelength output or a single wavelength with several stokes energy shifts from the pump wavelength. A selective, monolithic-coated Raman fiber oscillator laser is utilized to increase the efficiency of frequency shifting by providing frequency-specific feedback at both facets of a free space coupled optical fiber oscillator. Frequencies that lie several bands away from the primary pump frequency may be efficiently achieved in a fiber oscillator by re-circulating the required stokes-shifted frequencies via selective high-reflection coatings. By re-circulating the intra-band stokes frequencies, the required intensities in each respective frequency will be increased, thereby dropping the respective Raman threshold in the optical fiber. | 12-19-2013 |
