High Performance, Lock-Free Virtual Storage Manager - A virtual storage technique is provided to manage a cell pool or a set of cell pools which can be used to satisfy variable-size storage requests. The algorithm uses no locks and relies on an atomic compare-and-swap instruction to serialize updates to the fields that can be simultaneously requested by multiple threads or processes. A free chain is used to manage cells which have already been obtained and freed, while there is an active extent that is used to hand out cells which have not previously been obtained. The algorithm is based on all cell pool extents being the same size, which allows the control information for the extent to be easily located on the extent boundary (e.g. at a 1 MB boundary). Control information for each cell is stored independently of the cell storage in a control array that resides at the head of the extent, along with other control information. This avoids cell overrun from damaging the cell pool control information. The result is a high performance storage manager with good serviceability characteristics. | 04-16-2009
METHOD, SYSTEM, AND STORAGE MEDIUM FOR MANAGING COMPUTER PROCESSING FUNCTIONS - Exemplary embodiments include a system and storage medium for managing computer processing functions in a multi-processor computer environment. The system includes a physical processor, a standard logical processor, an assist logical processor sharing a same logical partition as the standard logical processor, and a single operating system instance associated with the logical partition, the single operating system instance including a switch-to service and a switch-from service. The system also includes a dispatch component managed by the single operating system instance. Upon invoking the switch-to service by standard code, the switch-to service checks to see if an assist logical processor is online and, if so, it updates an integrated assist field of a work element block associated with the task for indicating the task is eligible to be executed on the assist logical processor. The switch-to service also assigns a work queue to the work element block. | 05-12-2011

Method of Treating a Wellbore Having Annular Isolation System - A well treatment fluid containing borated galactomannan may be used to isolate a productive zone in a well having multiple productive zones. The fluid is particularly useful in treatment of wells containing a mechanical zonal isolation system in the productive zone of interest. The fluid is pumped into the well in a substantially non-hydrated form. The well treatment fluid is therefore highly effective in preferentially sealing or blocking productive zones in the formation since delayed hydration of the fluid may be controlled for up to several hours. | 09-15-2011

System and Method for Integrating Medical Treatment Guidelines with Real-Time, Ad-Hoc, Community Generated Commentary to Facilitate Collaborative Evidence-Based Practice - A system and method for automatically integrating real-time, ad-hoc, community generated commentary such as comments, notes, observations, and anecdotal data in any human perceptible form with medical treatment guidelines (otherwise known as “clinical guidelines”, “clinical protocols”, or “clinical practice guidelines”) to create a display that shows the medical treatment guideline alongside the commentary. The present invention employs a server with a database capable of receiving and displaying commentary from local or remote users via a network, such as the Internet using various terminal devices such as a computers, smartphones, or tablets. The present invention provides an accessible, dynamically revised stream of commentary thus creating an evolving resource in which infrequently revised medical treatment guidelines are supplemented with commentary in real-time. The utilization of medical treatment guidelines by health-care providers now characterized as “evidence based medicine” or “evidence based practice” is thus advanced constituting what is termed as “collaborative evidence-based practice.” | 05-10-2012

TECHNIQUES FOR ANALYZING AND PRESENTING INFORMATION IN AN EVENT-BASED DATA AGGREGATION SYSTEM - Methods and apparatus are described for presenting information relating to event-based data aggregated in an event-based data aggregation system. A dashboard interface is presented which includes report summary data for each of a plurality of reports to which a user has access. Each report corresponds to a subset of the event-based data derived with reference to an associated report rule set. At least one of the report rules sets is editable by the user. The report summary data are updated in response to detection of new event-based data being added to the event-based data aggregation system which match a first one of the report rule sets. | 09-18-2008
