SWITCHING AMPLIFIERS - Systems and methods implemented in a switching amplifier for providing consistent, matching switching between top and bottom switching devices in a switching amplifier. One embodiment includes a half-bridge circuit output stage, a driver stage and a transformer. The driver stage, which drives the switches of the output stage, is very fast, has a low propagation delay, and has minimal input capacitance. The transformer drives the drive paths from the transformer inputs to the switches. The transformer avoids resonances within the audio band and at the amplifier switching frequencies, has low and spread free leakage inductance, has enough magnetizing inductance to keep transformer currents low in proportion to the total driver stage current drain, has low core losses at the switching frequency, has minimal inductance change and operates well below its saturation point. The amplifier stage provides a substantially constant amplitude drive signal to the output power switching devices. | 05-21-2009

VIDEO PROCESSING - A method of processing video comprising a succession of images of a scene to detect movement of an object in the scene, comprising storing a matrix of bytes each representing the difference in intensity of a respective pixel between temporally adjacent images, creating from those bytes a histogram of the frequency at each of a range of positive and negative values of the intensity difference, locating the limits of a central peak of the frequency distribution in the histogram so as to include in the central peak changes due to illumination change and repetitive motions in the background of the scene, determining the proportion of bytes in the remainder of the distribution that are in tails of the distribution on each side of the central peak, repeating the aforesaid process for each successive pair of temporally adjacent images, and providing an output indicative of a moving object and not indicative of illumination change or repetitive motions, in the event that that proportion meets a predetermined criterion. | 07-21-2011

Monitoring Vehicle Use - A method of monitoring car parking obtains entry data containing at least one entry record, and exit data containing at least one exit record, wherein each entry/exit record contains a vehicle registration number and an entry/exit time. Entry and exit records that have the same vehicle registration number are matched to produce at least one parking record, wherein each parking record contains a vehicle registration number and an indication of a time stayed. Payment data containing at least one payment record is obtained, wherein each payment record contains a vehicle registration number and an indication of a period of time corresponding to a fee paid. For each parking record, either a payment record is identified that has the same vehicle registration number. It is determined whether the indication of time stayed exceeds the period of time in the identified payment record, or if there is no matching payment record identified. | 02-04-2010

LOCKING CONNECTOR SYSTEM - Components for use in a locking connector system, such a heavy duty shackles, comprise a retainer, a body structure and pin which is axially moveable into a receiving cavity of the body structure, the body structure having a transversely directed cavity interconnecting with the cavity and have a latching shoulder. The retainer has a body, a latch element associated with the body and adapted to move into a space adjacent the latching shoulder of the aperture when the retainer is inserted into the transverse aperture to retain the retainer in its aperture and the body of the retainer having a projecting portion for location adjacent the surface portion of the pin for restraining the pin from removal when the retainer is inserted, the retainer further having a latch actuator which is displaceable in the body from a released position to an engaged position for moving the latch element from its retracted position to a latching position, and the latch actuator further having releasable retention means for retaining the latch actuator in the engaged position but, on application of a retraction force, adapted to release the latch actuator to permit its return to its retracted position, thereby allowing return of the latch element to its retracted position, whereby the retainer may be removed from the aperture and the pin removed from the cavity. | 08-06-2009

PASSIVE AND SEMI-ACTIVE DIESEL AND GASOLINE FUEL MODULE - A vehicle fuel system may employ a fuel pump module with a reservoir within a fuel tank. The system may also employ a fuel injection common rail, a fuel supply line leading from the fuel pump module reservoir to the fuel injection common rail, and a fuel return line leading from the fuel injection common rail through a fuel pump module flange. Additionally, the system may employ a first return fuel check valve to release fuel only into a reservoir jet pump and/or a transfer jet pump, while a second return fuel check valve may release fuel only directly into the fuel pump module reservoir. An electric fuel pump within the reservoir may have a fuel pump check valve and supply fuel only to the reservoir jet pump and/or the transfer jet pump, and not to an engine, when activated by a pressure sensor in the fuel return line. | 06-09-2011
