20080203369SELF-TAILING WINCH - A winch, a retainer assembly and a method for assembling a winch. The winch may include a fixed first housing supportable on a surface, and a second housing supported for pivoting movement relative to the first housing, the second housing including a winding portion and spaced apart flanges defining an outwardly-facing groove, a line being windable on the winding portion and positionable in the groove, the winch being operable to apply a pulling force to the line. A retainer assembly may include a support connected to the first housing, and a retainer connected to the support and positioned to cover at least a portion of the winch groove, the retainer inhibiting radial movement of the line from the groove. In some constructions, the support has a flexible portion allowing movement of the retainer relative to the first housing. In some construction, the retainer includes a first retainer member and a second retainer member supported by the support to define a space between the first retainer member and the second retainer member, the line being radially movable relative to the groove through the space.08-28-2008

20090239078Process and apparatus for diamond synthesis - The present invention relates to a microwave plasma deposition process and apparatus for producing diamond, preferably as single crystal diamond (SCD). The process and apparatus enables the production of multiple layers of the diamond by the use of an extending device to increase the length and the volume of a recess in a holder containing a SCD substrate as layers of diamond are deposited. The diamond is used for abrasives, cutting tools, gems, electronic substrates, heat sinks, electrochemical electrodes, windows for high power radiation and electron beams, and detectors.09-24-2009
20100034984Microwave plasma reactors - New and improved microwave plasma assisted reactors, for example chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) reactors, are disclosed. The disclosed microwave plasma assisted reactors operate at pressures ranging from about 10 Torr to about 760 Torr. The disclosed microwave plasma assisted reactors include a movable lower sliding short and/or a reduced diameter conductive stage in a coaxial cavity of a plasma chamber. For a particular application, the lower sliding short position and/or the conductive stage diameter can be variably selected such that, relative to conventional reactors, the reactors can be tuned to operate over larger substrate areas, operate at higher pressures, and discharge absorbed power densities with increased diamond synthesis rates (carats per hour) and increased deposition uniformity.02-11-2010

201100635753D Autostereoscopic Display System With Multiple Sets Of Stereoscopic Views - Multiple sets of view channels originate from multiple projected views modulated through an optic assembly comprising a Fresnel lens, a vertical dispersion lenticular lens, and a diffuser. Compact projection enclosures are formed using image-repeating mirrors to create a three-dimensional autostereoscopic viewing experience in free space without the use of special eyeglasses and without the use of view screens. Multiple sets of images are repeated within a viewing zone that may extend well beyond the confines of the enclosure and may be projected through and beyond a glass window. An observer walking past the window will see one view channel per eye, due in part to the repeated images, and due in part to the vertical dispersion of each projected view. Separate images for each view channel may be created by using two or more cameras spaced apart at a distance interval to match the average horizontal distance between the eyes of a human observer. Multiple views or multiple sets of view channels may be generated and projected.03-17-2011

20090271834Advanced Set Top Terminal Having a Video Call Feature - A set top terminal equipped with a camera and microphone includes the capability to send and receive video calls through a cable television delivery system or other communications networks. In response to detection of the occurrence of a video call event or triggering event, a video program is automatically paused. In response to an incoming video phone call, message, web page, or other video communications information, the system pauses the video program and displays an indication of the occurrence of the communications event. The system also buffers the video program while paused, permitting a user to replay missed portions of it. Alternatively, the system waits for a triggering event, which includes the user's access to the communications event, in order to pause the video program. The set top terminal also includes features for caller identification of video calls and dual display of video programs and video calls, such as picture in picture. A hardware upgrade for adding video call functionality to a set top terminal is also disclosed.10-29-2009
20100180296Method and Apparatus for Targeting of Interactive Virtual Objects - A method and an apparatus are used to target interactive virtual objects to subscribers in a television delivery system. Programs are selected and virtual object locations are defined in the selected programs. The virtual objects available for targeting are categorized and the categories are correlated to subscriber information to determine the optimum targeting of the virtual objects. The invention uses upstream data reception hardware, databases and processing hardware and software, and corresponding features in the televisions to accomplish these functions.07-15-2010
20100313215VIDEO AND DIGITAL MULTIMEDIA AGGREGATOR - The present invention utilizes an aggregator for searching, packaging and delivering content. The aggregator processes requests, searches, provides search results and acquires content. The aggregator, operating in a communications network, includes a request and results processing server, a search engine server coupled to the request and results processing server and a content acquisition server coupled to the request and results processing server. A request and results processing server receives a request for content, the search engine server searches for the content and the content acquisition program acquires content for delivery to the user. The request and results processing server includes a search request processor that receives information related to a user's search request and provides the information to a search results form builder that creates an electronic search request.12-09-2010
20110085080VIDEO AND DIGITAL MULTIMEDIA AGGREGATOR CONTENT CODING AND FORMATTING - A video and digital multimedia aggregator includes a content decoder, coder (codec) and formatter. The codec formatter receives coding and formatting requests that characterize input source content and desired output target content. Data conveyed about the source and target content may include parameters such as physical and/or logical addresses, coding and compression parameters, format descriptions, content size, description of auxiliary services, and other metadata elements that may be required for coding and formatting.04-14-2011

20080229182ELECTRONIC BOOK ELECTRONIC LINKS - An electronic book selection and delivery system distributes text to subscribers. The system includes the ability to use electronic links as well as a system for creating electronic links between specific electronic books and other electronic files. The links may be used or accessed by a menu system or by operation of a cursor and a select button. The other electronic files could be portions of a specific electronic book, such as a Table of Contents. The other electronic files could also exist external to a specific electronic book. For example, definitions provided in an electronic English-language dictionary could be linked to terms contained in an electronic book. The electronic links may be created by the book publisher or may be subscriber-defined. The links may use standard programming language such as hypertext markup language (HTML). The links may be established through use of a relational database.09-18-2008
20090031335DIGITAL BROADCAST PROGRAM ORDERING - A method and a system for selecting and ordering broadcast programs uses an electronic program guide that may be broadcast to subscribers or posted on an Internet web site. The system allows national broadcasters to provide one or more channels of pay-per-view or subscription programming and to establish a mechanism for billing subscribers who access the programs. Subscribers may access the Internet and send a program request to a web site. An authorization is then forwarded to a billing center and to a local broadcaster. The billing center debits the subscriber's account, or prepares a bill. The local broadcaster sends the authorization to the subscriber. The authorization includes a program code and a terminal identifier that permit the subscriber's television or set top terminal to decrypt and display the program.01-29-2009
