20100015978PREFERRED SYSTEM SELECTION ENHANCEMENTS FOR MULTI-MODE WIRELESS SYSTEMS - Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate improved multi-mode system selection in a wireless communication system. As described herein, various techniques can be utilized to synthesize system databases corresponding to disparate groups of radio access technologies (RATs), such as a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) list and/or a Preferred Roaming List (PRL), with one or more overlay databases and associated location information to generate a multi-mode list of preferred systems. As described herein, a preferred system listing can be constructed to leverage fine granularity of information in one or more databases while still supporting databases with coarser information. Techniques are additionally described herein for augmenting and/or grouping one or more overlay databases to facilitate a higher available granularity of information for various RATs than that provided in system databases corresponding to the RATs. Techniques are additionally provided for automated generation of preferred system listing based on changes to observed location.01-21-2010
20100074109NETWORK AND MOBILE DEVICE INITIATED QUALITY OF SERVICE - Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate avoidance of duplicative resource allocation and/or erroneous service charges via unambiguously indicating an entity responsible for quality of service (QoS) initiation. In one example, an indication is provided to a mobile device to indicate a preference for network-initiated QoS or a preference for device-initiated QoS. QoS for a data flow can be established in accordance with the indication. For instance, the mobile device initiates QoS when the indication specifies a preference for device-initiated QoS while a network establishes QoS when the indication specifies a preference for network-initiated QoS.03-25-2010
20100075680METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REDUCING SUCCESSIVE PRE-REGISTRATION ATTEMPTS BY ACCESS TERMINALS - An access terminal pre-registers with a second access network via a first access network to ensure a quick handover in the future. Frequent pre-registration attempts are avoided by implementing a hysteresis timer that restricts when a pre-registration process can be initiated. The hysteresis timer is started when pre-registration is initiated by the access terminal. No new pre-registration attempts are permitted if the hysteresis timer has not expired. An abort condition can cause the hysteresis timer to be aborted early, and a new pre-registration can be initiated. Access points in the first access network may be grouped into one or more pre-registration zones. If the access terminal moves from a first access point to a second access point, a new pre-registration is skipped if the first and second access points have the same pre-registration zone or the second access point is aware of the pre-registration zone for the first access point.03-25-2010
20100099412METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR SYSTEM SELECTION IN A MULTIMODE WIRELESS DEVICE - Devices and methods are provided for system selection from a plurality of wireless system access technologies, such as a first group (e.g., 3GPP2 technologies) and a second group (e.g., 3GPP technologies). In one embodiment, the method may involve storing identification information pertaining to the first group in a database, wherein the database may concern the priority of ones of the access technologies pertaining to the second group. The method may also involve selecting a preferred access technology from one of the first and second groups based at least in part on the identification information stored in the database.04-22-2010
201001110431XRTT AND HRPD NEIGHBOR LIST SUPPORT OVER LTE - Devices and methods are provided for supporting single carrier Radio Transmission Technology (1×RTT) and High Rate Packet Data (HRPD) neighbor lists over LTE, thereby enabling efficient scans for 3GPP2 neighbors with minimal interruption to the LTE operations both when idle or when in-traffic. In one embodiment, the method may involve accessing a neighbor list, each neighboring system in the list being prioritized based at least in part on whether the access terminal (AT) supports a hybrid mode. For example, the method may involve selecting the 3GPP2 system to handin to based at least in part on the neighbor list.05-06-2010
20100135206Radio Access Technology Interworking - Radio access interworking technologies allow a target network to notify a source network that a mobile device has moved from source network to target network, wherein mobile device does not need to perform notification to source network. Further, source network can provide a first subset of overhead information to mobile device and, after moving to target network, mobile device can receive a second subset of overhead information from target network. Further, mobile device can perform prehashing prior to moving to target network based on a channel list received from source network.06-03-2010
20100189024PS-Poll Transmission Opportunity in WLAN - Embodiments of the invention provide a dynamic priority adjustment algorithm for PS-Poll packets in WLAN and dynamic CW (contention window) management algorithm for PS-Poll packets in WLAN. These improve the performance of traffic flows associated with STAs in power save mode. Maintain the QoS requirements of the traffic flows. When PS-Poll packets are not able to be sent, the QoS STA will experience a long delay of the downlink data, even if the downlink data has been assigned a higher AC. The delay may potentially violate the QoS bound required by the data flow. Using the embodiments can significantly decrease the probability of this event.07-29-2010
20110003590Provisioning Single-Mode and Multimode System Selection Parameters and Service Management - Multi-mode system selection (MMSS) enables a mobile station (MS) to prioritize MS preference for selecting particular radio air-interfaces (AI) across multiple standards (e.g., 3GPP, 3GPP2, WiMAX). 3GPP2 is developing a scheme MMSS-3GPP2 which is usually referred to as simply ‘MMSS.’ Other schemes exist e.g., proprietary ones (e.g., internal ePRL), an MMSS-3GPP based on the PLMN with Access Technologies of non-3GPP systems. MMSS OTASP messages and parameters are being defined in 3GPP2 to allow the carriers to provision MMSS parameters to the mobile device. With MMSS, the mobile can select and hence acquire cdma2000 and non-cdma2000 systems (e.g., LTE, WiMAX) based on carrier's preferences.01-06-2011
20110014913ENHANCEMENTS FOR MULTI-MODE SYSTEM SELECTION (MMSS) AND MMSS SYSTEM PRIORITY LISTS (MSPLS) - A mobile device or access terminal of a wireless wide area network (WWAN) communication system is provisioned for Multi-Mode System Selection (MMSS) wherein an MMSS System Priority List (MSPL) is used with respect to the underlying system selection priority list (e.g., Private Land Mobile Network (PLMN) list). Relating a current location to one or more entries in an MMSS Location Associated Priority List (MLPLs) enables scaling a range of entries in the PLMN list, indicating whether the MSPL apply to the entire list of PLMNs stored in an access terminal or to some subset of the PLMN List. Similarly, the present innovation addresses whether the MSPL applies to the entire Preferred Roaming List (PRL) or some subset of a geo-spatial location (GEO) area.01-20-2011
20110092208METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR UNIFYING DIFFERENT MULTI-MODE SYSTEM SELECTION FRAMEWORKS - A unified approach multi-mode system selection is provided for a mobile device implementing multiple multi-mode system selection (MMSS). Different system operators may provide their own MMSS databases and rules in different frameworks. To allow a mobile device to perform MMSS without modifying its software, the different databases may be mapped into a common database. In one example, an MMSS solution is implemented that uses a Preferred Roaming List (PRL) database according to a 3GPP2 system selection to specify the prioritization of 3GPP and 3GPP2 systems the mobile device. When the mobile device is powered up, the information in the different MMSS databases is mapped into a common database (“PRL with PLMN records”). The wireless communication device then acts on this information in the common database to perform system selection.04-21-2011
