Globally Distributed Utility Computing Cloud - Various techniques are disclosed for use in computing networks such as, for example, on-demand, grid and/or utility computing networks. Examples of at least a portion of the techniques (and/or related features, aspects, and/or benefits) disclosed herein include: techniques for migrating virtual appliances from a first server grid to a second server grid via a communication network; techniques for migrating distributed applications from a first server grid to a second server grid via a communication network; techniques for delivering pre-packaged software in virtual appliances to computing systems for use in operating software applications; techniques for managing use of virtualized computing resources implemented in a computing network; exchange systems for renting or leasing computing resources provided over a computing network; techniques for offering, via a computing network, virtualized computing resources for use in deployment of one or more distributed applications at one or more server grids of a computing network; techniques for offering, via a computing network, distributed application components for use in deployment of one or more distributed applications at one or more server grids of a computing network; techniques for implementing exchange of computing resources between computing resource providers and computing resource subscribers of a computing network; and the like. In at least one embodiment, the computing network may include multiple different data centers and/or server grids which are deployed different geographic locations. In at least one embodiment, at least some of the server grids may be operable to provide on-demand, grid and/or utility computing resources for hosting various types of distributed applications. In at least one embodiment, a distributed application may be characterized as an application made up of distinct components (e.g., virtual appliances, virtual machines, virtual interfaces, virtual volumes, virtual network connections, etc.) in separate runtime environments. In at least one embodiment, different ones of the distinct components of the distributed application may be hosted or deployed on different platforms (e.g., different servers) connected via a network. In some embodiments, a distributed application may be characterized as an application that runs on two or more networked computers. | 11-05-2009

Patterned Panel System with Integrated Decorative Surfaces - An insulating concrete form can be used to form the walls of a structure when filled with concrete. An outer surface of the insulating concrete form can be formed into one or more patterns. The patterns may simulate popular finishes such as brick, natural stone, and stucco. In some cases, the exterior of the insulating concrete form is coated with a protective, conformal coating, such as a rubberized acrylic coating or an elastomeric paint. | 12-17-2009
HIGH PERFORMANCE BUILDING PANEL - The present invention discloses a building system comprising a first panel formed of expanded polystyrene with a front surface, a back surface, and an edge surface, and a second panel formed of expanded polystyrene with a front surface, a back surface, and an edge surface, wherein the first panel and the second panel are used to form a portion of a building. In some embodiments the first panel has a tongue, and the second panel has a groove, and the tongue and the groove are used to couple the first panel and the second panel together. In some embodiments the tongue and groove are coupled together with a latch mounted in the tongue of the first panel and a latch receiver mounted in the groove of the second panel. The first panel and the second panel can be formed by molding the expanded polystyrene. | 03-03-2011
FLOOR LEVELING SYSTEM - A floor-leveling system is provided and includes such features as a corner pedestal, a cross-joint pedestal, a side-joint pedestal, an interior pedestal, an exterior frame support, an interior frame support, and drop-in pins that may be used and assembled together to construct a sufficient foundation to collectively support a temporary structure that is placed thereon. These various components may be quickly coupled together in assorted configurations to form the foundation that is sufficiently strong and rigid to suitably support the weight of the structure. Many of the components of the foundation can be adjusted to conform to uneven elevations of the ground surface upon which the foundation is to be placed. The ability of the foundation to be quickly assembled and adapted to uneven elevation significantly reduces the man-power and time required to assemble the foundation and erect the structure thereon. | 12-15-2011

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING RFID DEVICES - A method of making RFID devices includes feeding in an interposer web or sheet at a variable (non-constant) speed, cutting single interposers from the interposer web or sheet, and using a rotary transport device to transport the singulated (cut) interposers to an antenna web. The interposers are transferred from the rotary transport device and are attached to the antenna web, being operatively coupled to antennas on the antenna web. The interposers each include an RFID transponder chip and conductive leads. A feeder is used to advance the interposer web or sheet into a cutting zone between the rotary cutter and the rotary transport device. The rotary cutting device may be capable of singulating multiple interposers at one time, and the system may be capable of thus being able to remove interposers that are not to be joined to the antenna web. | 09-17-2009

Carbonate Scale Detector - An apparatus and method for detecting carbonate scale. An energy emitting device transmits energy through one optical window, through a fluid stream, and out through a second optical window where the energy is detected by an energy receiving device. As scale, such as that due to carbonate present in the fluid, accumulates on the wetted surface of the optical windows, the transmission of the energy through the optical windows is obscured. The optical windows may optionally be coated and electrically charged to promote the formation of carbonate scale on the wetted surface of the window. The optical windows can be cleaned by reversing their polarity. By correlating the rate of energy intensity reduction to carbonate scale formation, the concentration of carbonate in the fluid stream can be determined. The carbonate detector can be used to alarm, shutdown, or control operation of equipment that may be adversely affected by the presence of carbonate in the fluid stream. Alternatively the present invention can detect scale formation on an electrode or other electrolytic cell component by analyzing light reflected from that component. | 10-23-2008
