20110283834ONE-STEP SYNTHESIS OF MONODISPERSE AU-CU NANOCUBES - A one-step process for synthesizing gold-copper bimetallic nanocubes. The process comprises the step of simultaneously reducing a copper II salt and a gold halide by 1,2-hexadecanediol in diphenyl ether, and 1-dodecanethiol as well as surfactants 1-adamantanecarboxylic acid and 1-hexadecylamine. The copper II salt may be copper (II) acetylacetonate, copper chloride, copper sulfate, or copper phosphate. The gold halide may be chloroauric acid, gold chloride, gold bromide, or tetrabromoauric acid. The reduction may occur at a temperature between about 160 and 180 degrees Celsius. The copper II salt may be copper (II) acetylacetonate and the gold halide may be chloroauric acid.11-24-2011

20090226469Shiga Toxoid Chimeric Proteins - A chimeric Shiga toxoid according to the invention contains an enzymatically-inactivated StxA subunit and a native StxB subunit. This hybrid Shiga toxoid induces the production of broadly cross-reactive species of antibodies against Shiga toxin following immunization. The StxA subunit is modified so that it is enzymatically inactive. The invention thus encompasses the Shiga toxoid or fragments thereof and the nucleic acid sequence of the Shiga toxoid or fragments thereof. The invention further encompasses the production of a Shiga toxoid, the production of antibodies using the Shiga toxoid and methods of productions, and an immunogenic composition containing the Shiga toxoid.09-10-2009

20110287471System and Method of Producing Volatile Organic Compounds from Fungi - An isolated fungus is described. The isolated fungus produces at least one compound selected from the group consisting of 1,8-cineole, 1-methyl-1,4-cyclohexadiene, and (+)-α-methylene-α-fenchocamphorone. A method for producing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of 1,8-cineole, 1-methyl-1,4-cyclohexadiene, and (+)-α-methylene-α-fenchocamphorone is also described. The method includes culturing a fungus on or within a culturing media in a container under conditions sufficient for producing the at least one compound.11-24-2011
