A flexible and resilient iris valve is connected to the first and second frames and has a closed position and an opened position based on the relative angular position of the first and second frames. A lock is connected to the first and second frames, the lock being selectively operative to prevent relative rotational movement in a first rotational direction. One embodiment uses a ratchet and pawl mechanism operable with a control ring. Another embodiment uses a ratchet and pawl mechanism operable with a button. Yet another embodiment uses a wedge track and ball mechanism.08-28-2008

20080221389Hand assisted laparoscopic seal assembly with deflection feature - A seal assembly for permitting hand assisted laparoscopic procedures is disclosed. The seal assembly includes a seal cap having a seal positioned within a housing. The housing includes a lower seal ring having a track which supports an upper seal ring for relative rotational motion. The seal is supported between the upper seal ring and the lower seal ring for rotation between an open orientation and a closed orientation. A ratchet mechanism is provided for controlling motion of the upper seal ring relative to the lower seal ring. The ratchet mechanism includes a deflection feature and a series of gear teeth, wherein the series of gear teeth are oriented to engage the deflection feature.09-11-2008
20080221483Hand assisted laparoscopic seal assembly with a ratchet mechansim - A seal assembly for permitting hand assisted laparoscopic procedures includes a seal cap having a seal positioned within a housing. The housing includes a lower seal ring having a track which supports an upper seal ring for relative rotational motion, wherein the seal is supported between the upper seal ring and the lower seal ring for rotation between an open orientation and a closed orientation. The track includes an inner upstanding annular wall and an outer upstanding annular wall connected by a base member. A ratchet mechanism controls motion of the upper seal ring relative to the lower seal ring. The ratchet mechanism includes a ratchet arm oriented to engage a ratchet surface and the ratchet surface is positioned between the inner upstanding annular wall and the outer upstanding annular wall.09-11-2008
20080221607Hand assisted laparoscopic seal assembly with a ratcheting mechanism - A seal assembly for permitting hand assisted laparoscopic procedures includes a seal cap having a seal positioned within a housing. The ratchet mechanism includes a ratchet arm oriented to engage a ratchet surface. The ratchet surface extends outwardly from a center of the seal assembly.09-11-2008
20080249371Hand assisted laparoscopic seal assembly with detachable attachment ring - A seal assembly for permitting hand assisted laparoscopic procedures includes a seal cap having a central access opening allowing access to a body cavity as desired. The seal cap is provided with a housing in which a seal is positioned. The seal cap also includes an attachment ring that is selectively detachable therefrom for selective attachment of a retractor.10-09-2008
20080265512Hand assisted laparoscopic seal apparatus with a fast recovery foam core - A hand assisted laparoscopic seal apparatus. The seal apparatus includes a seal body and a housing supporting the seal body. The seal body includes a core composed of a fast recovery foam and a flexible membrane covering the core.10-30-2008
20090088665MARKER DEVICE AND METHOD OF DEPLOYING A CAVITY MARKER USING A SURGICAL BIOPSY DEVICE - A biopsy marker introduction assembly is configured for introduction through a specimen retrieval recess into a probe cutter lumen of a handheld breast biopsy handle. Advancing the cutter causes an extending deployment rod to distally translate within an introducer tube of the introduction assembly, pushing a biopsy marker out of a distal end of the probe at a surgical biopsy site. Thereby, the surgeon is able to position the probe and effect deployment of the marker even if using the other hand to position an imaging device such as an ultrasonic transceiver.04-02-2009
20090260755METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A NEEDLE ASSEMBLY FOR USE WITH A BIOPSY DEVICE - An improved process for manufacturing a biopsy needle assembly is provided. The process may comprise the steps of forming an aperture for receiving tissue to be sampled in an exterior surface of an elongated tube for receiving a cutter, wherein the elongated tube comprises a proximal portion and a distal portion; forming a hole in the exterior surface of the elongated tube; and applying a coating of material over the elongated tube to form a lumen for receiving vacuum on the exterior surface of the elongated tube, wherein the hole in the exterior surface of the elongated tube provides communication between an interior of the elongated tube and an interior of the lumen. In one version, the elongated tube may be placed in a mold configured to form the vacuum lumen when material is injected into the mold. A proximal hub may advantageously be formed by overmolding.10-22-2009
20110071433BIOPSY DEVICE WITH TRANSLATING VALVE MEMBER - A biopsy device includes a needle extending distally from a body. The needle includes a transverse aperture, a first lumen, and a second lumen. A cutter is movable within the first lumen to sever tissue protruding through the transverse aperture. A valve assembly is operable to change the pneumatic state of the second lumen. The valve assembly includes a valve body and a translating member slidably disposed in a bore of the valve body. The valve body includes a first port and a second port. The first port is in fluid communication with the second lumen of the needle. The second port is in fluid communication with atmospheric air. The translating member selectively couples the first port with the second port based on the longitudinal position of the translating member within the bore. The translating member translates relative to the valve body based on the position of the cutter.03-24-2011
20110087159Trocar Assembly - A trocar assembly including a sleeve assembly having a cannula connected to a housing and an obturator assembly including a handle connected to an obturator, wherein the obturator assembly is receivable in the sleeve assembly to define a gripping portion that includes the housing and the handle, the gripping portion having an axial length and a maximum width, and wherein a ratio of the axial length to the maximum width ranges from about 2.5 to about 3.5.04-14-2011
20110112437NEEDLE ASSEMBLY FOR USE WITH A BIOPSY DEVICE - A needle assembly comprises an outer cannula and an inner cannula. The outer cannula and the inner cannula have complementary tissue receiving apertures. A tissue piercing tip is secured relative to one or both of the inner cannula or the outer cannula. A cutter is slidably disposed in the inner cannula. The cutter is configured to sever tissue protruding through the transverse apertures. A hub releasably secures at least part of the needle assembly relative to the body of a biopsy device.05-12-2011
