METHOD AND DEVICE FOR LOW-ENERGY TERMINATION OF ATRIAL TACHYARRHYTHMIAS - Methods for treating atrial arrhythmias can involve configuring an implantable arrhythmia treatment device. A device can be configured after implantation when the patient is fully conscious and after any pain suppression medication has worn off. The device is caused to apply a phased unpinning far field therapy to the patient in response to detection of an arrhythmia via a far field configuration of electrodes. An indication of a pain sensation of the patient and the effectiveness of the treatment in response to the therapy can then be received. In response, at least one of a set of therapy parameters is adjusted and the steps are repeated until it is determined that an effective treatment is provide at a pain sensation that is tolerable to the patient. The device is then programmed to automatically treat arrhythmias detected in the patient with the determined set of therapy parameters. | 08-13-2009
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THREE-STAGE ATRIAL CARDIOVERSION THERAPY - Methods and apparatus for a three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy that treats atrial arrhythmias within pain tolerance thresholds of a patient. An implantable therapy generator adapted to generate and selectively deliver a three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy and at least two leads operably each having at least one electrode adapted to be positioned proximate the atrium of the patient. The device is programmed with a set of therapy parameters for delivering a three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy to the patient via both a far-field configuration and a near-field configuration of the electrodes upon detection of an atrial arrhythmia. The three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy includes a first stage for unpinning of one or more singularities associated with an atrial arrhythmia, a second stage for anti-repinning of the one or more singularities associated with the atrial arrhythmia, both of which are delivered via the far-field configuration of the electrodes, and a third stage for extinguishing of the one or more singularities associated with the atrial arrhythmia delivered via the near-field configuration of the electrodes. | 01-13-2011

IL-1 BINDING PROTEINS - The present invention describes IL-1β binding proteins, including chimeric, CDR-grafted, and humanized antibodies that bind IL-1β. Binding proteins of the invention have high affinity for IL-1β and neutralize IL-1β activity. A binding protein of the invention can be a full-length antibody or an IL-1β-binding portion thereof. Methods of making and methods of using the binding proteins of the invention are also described. The IL-1β binding proteins of the invention are useful for detecting IL-1β and for inhibiting IL-1β activity, including in a human subject suffering from a disease or disorder in which IL-1β activity is detrimental. | 06-16-2011

SOLENOID VALVE - The invention relates to a solenoid valve with a magnet assembly and a valve cartridge having a pole core, a valve insert connected to the pole core, an armature which is guided within the valve insert in an axially movable manner between a closed position and an open position and is coupled to a closing element, and a valve body which is connected to the valve insert and has a main valve seat which is arranged between at least one first flow opening and a second flow opening. The axially movable armature, when the magnet assembly is energized, is moved by a generated magnetic force within the valve insert in the direction of the pole core counter to a spring force of a resetting spring and counter to a fluid force in order to lift the closing element out of the main valve seat; and to permit a flow of fluid between the at least one first flow opening and the second flow opening. The axially movable armature is moved away from the pole core by the spring force of the restoring spring and by the fluid force within the valve insert in order to press the closing element into the main valve seat in a sealing manner and to interrupt the fluid flow between the at least one first flow opening and the second flow opening. | 12-02-2010
SOLENOID VALVE - The invention relates to a solenoid valve, particularly for controlling the brake pressure of a wheel brake of a slip-controllable hydraulic brake system of a motor vehicle. In known solenoid valves, there is a first hydraulically effective connection of an armature chamber of the solenoid valve to an outlet through the guide of a tappet in a valve insert. The first hydraulically effective connection ends in the form of a blind hole and thus does not permit flushing out gas bubbles which possibly have accumulated in the armature chamber. In order to solve this problem, the invention proposes a second hydraulically effective connection which is arranged away from the guide of the tappet, uncoupled from the first hydraulically effective connection. Thus, a closed pressure medium path is effected within a valve cartridge of the solenoid valve, the closed pressure medium path making possible an effective flushing of the armature chamber and thus a flushing out of gas bubbles. | 08-18-2011
Solenoid Valve for Controlling a Fluid - A solenoid valve for controlling a fluid includes an armature having a base region, a lateral region and a head region. The solenoid valve includes a valve member connected to the armature. The solenoid valve further includes an armature casing component in which the armature is positioned. A flow path is formed between the armature and the armature casing component, the flow path extending from a lower armature space to an upper armature space and back to the lower armature space. A junction region is arranged between the head region and the lateral region. The junction region has at least one groove formed therein to facilitate an overflow between the lateral region and the head region. | 09-08-2011
