20080218310SMART GARMENT - A sensor authenticated to a garment transfers information, either wirelessly or wired, to an external data processing device. Such information includes location information, physiometric data of the individual wearing the garment, garment performance and wear data (when the garment is an athletic shoe, for example). The external data processing device can be portable digital media players that are, in turn, in wireless communication with a server computer or other wireless devices.09-11-2008
20080284724Remote control systems that can distinguish stray light sources - Remote control systems that can distinguish predetermined light sources from stray light sources, e.g., environmental light sources and/or reflections are provided. The predetermined light sources can be disposed in asymmetric substantially linear or two-dimensional patterns. The predetermined light sources also can be configured to exhibit signature characteristics. The predetermined light sources also can output light at different signature wavelengths. The predetermined light sources also can emit light polarized in one or more predetermined polarization axes. Remote control systems of the present invention also can include methods for adjusting an allocation of predetermined light sources and/or the technique used to distinguish the predetermined light sources from the stray light sources.11-20-2008
20080309632Pinch-throw and translation gestures - The detection of finger pinch, rotate, and tap gestures along with a translation and optionally liftoff motion to initiate certain actions is disclosed. To detect both the gesture and the translation, a certain amount of gesture scaling speed can be detected along with a certain amount of translation speed and distance traveled. For a finger pinch gesture, the scaling speed can be computed as the dot product of the velocity vectors of two or more fingers coming together. For a finger rotation gesture, the scaling speed can be computed as a cross product of the velocity vectors of the rotating fingers. The translation speed of a gesture can be computed as the average of the velocity vectors of any fingers involved in the gesture. The amount of gesture scaling speed and translation speed needed to trigger the recognition of a combined gesture with translation can be a predetermined ratio.12-18-2008

20090182492Adaptive Navigation System for Estimating Travel Times - An estimated travel time for a route generated by a navigation system can be modified using a route-specific, custom travel factor computed from data collected by the navigation system while the user is traveling the route. In one aspect, the data can be stored in a local or remote database accessible by the navigation system. The data can be used to classify routes so that custom travel factors computed for a route in a given class can be used to estimate travel times for other routes in the same class. In another aspect, the classified custom travel factors can be shared with other users.07-16-2009
20090184932Portable Device Capable of Initiating Disengagement from Host System - A portable device configured for engaging to a host system can be operable to generate a signal when the portable device is touched by a user or when the portable device detects an impending touch by the user. Responsive to the signal, the host system automatically initiates one or more operations related to disengaging the portable device from the host system.07-23-2009
20100078343Cover for Portable Electronic Device - A cover for a portable electronic device is disclosed. The cover can include at least one electrical component. For example, in one embodiment, an electrical component can be embedded in the cover. When the cover is placed on or mated with the portable electronic device, the electrical component embedded in the cover is able to interact with electrical circuitry of the portable electronic device. Advantageously, the cover can not only provide a protective and/or ornamental covering for the portable electronic device but can also augment the electrical capabilities of the portable electronic device.04-01-2010
20100081337ADAPTER - Circuits, methods, and apparatus that provide compatibility among incompatible accessories and portable media players. One example provides an adapter having a connector receptacle to mate with an accessory's connector insert and a connector insert to mate with a portable media player's connector receptacle. Another example provides an adapter having a direct connection between pins on the connector insert and pins on the connector receptacle that are used for compatible signals. Another example provides an adapter including a DC-to-DC converter that receives a first power supply from an accessory and provides a second power supply to a portable media player. Another translates signals using different signaling technologies. Authentication and identification circuitry may also be included. Other examples may employ wireless technologies instead of either or both the connector insert and connector receptacle.04-01-2010
20100081505ACCESSORY FOR PLAYING GAMES WITH A PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE - Circuits, methods, and apparatus that provide user interfaces for playing games on portable electronic devices. One example provides a game accessory having input controls for playing video, audio, and other types of games. The game accessory can have input controls, such as buttons, joysticks, and D-pads. Another example provides a game accessory having a thumb pad or keyboard. Other possible features include microphones, cameras and camera lenses, speakers, a second screen, rumble, and motion detection. The game accessory may have a recess sized to fit the portable electronic device. Inserts or removable adapters can be used to fit portable electronic devices having different sizes. The portable electronic device can be held in the accessory using sliding covers, clips, or other engaging members. In other examples, the accessory can communicate with another accessory for head-to-head game play. The accessory may include circuitry for power, identification, and authorization.04-01-2010
20110090626COVER FOR PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A cover for a portable electronic device is disclosed. The cover can include at least one electrical component. For example, in one embodiment, an electrical component can be embedded in the cover.
