Split stage call sequence restoration method - Embodiments of the present invention provide for collecting a minimal subset of task execution context in real time and for restoring the task execution context and performing procedure frame unwinding operations at a post-processing stage. A first data structure may be constructed in real time to contain procedure linkage information along with references to the memory area or to a processor register context where each procedure linkage information element (procedure return address or a procedure frame pointer) was originally found. Procedure return addresses may be determined by decoding the instruction preceding the address in question and checking if it is a procedure call instruction. Procedure return addresses may also be determined using other methods (e.g., by checking whether the memory region the address in question belongs to is executable) if the probability of retrieving the correct result is acceptable for a particular area of application of an embodiment of the present invention. Procedure frame pointers may be determined as the conventional memory area elements whose value points back to the conventional memory area. Procedure frame pointers, depending on particular processor architecture, may also have other properties that differentiate them from other elements of the conventional memory area. The conventional memory area for purposes of the present invention may be non-contiguous. The contents of first data structure may then be employed in reconstruction of the task execution environment at the post-processing stage. Then, the procedure frame unwinding operations may be performed over the restored task execution context. | 10-29-2009

GUIDED DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING FOR COMPUTER CODE - A method and apparatus for a guided procedure development and testing for computer code. An embodiment of a method includes receiving a component for a software program, and storing the component in an inactive state. A new version of the software program is built, the new version being limited to the component stored in the inactive state and one or more components of the software program that are in an active state, with the new version being built in the inactive state. If the building of the new version is successful, then the new version of the software program is tested. If the testing of the new version is successful, then the component is moved into the active state. | 09-11-2008

Methods and device for fast creation of fluid interfaces and use of this device for determination of liquid-liquid and liquid-gas interfacial properties - The invention proposes new methods for fast fresh surface formation of a drop or bubble of a test fluid and a device to realize the new methods to determine the dynamic or equilibrium surface/interfacial tension (ST/IFT) of this liquid. The methods are implemented by means of a single device which is used both for dynamic and equilibrium measurements of the ST/IFT. Depending on the method, the determination of the ST/IFT can be performed either by Axisymmetric Drop Shape Analysis (ADSA) or Capillary Pressure Method (CPM) or both. In addition, with this device the Drop Volume Method and Stopped Jet Method can be realized, which has been modified and improved with the proposed invention in comparison with the known methods. The combination of several methods for creating a fresh surface and of two techniques for determining ST/IFT in a single device allows choosing the most suitable method for a given fluid system considering the system properties and desired time range. The proposed device consists of the following components: | 05-28-2009

Method of, and Apparatus and Computer Software for, Performing Image Processing - A computer-implemented method of performing image processing for images of biological objects includes: storing definitions of a plurality of descriptors; receiving image data relating to an image of a reference population of biological objects; receiving image data relating to an image of a target population of biological objects; processing the reference population image data to obtain a reference set of measurements, containing data for each of the descriptors; processing the target population image data to obtain a target set of measurements, containing data for each of the descriptors; and selecting a combination of the descriptors on the basis of comparing the reference set with the target set to define a preferred combination of the descriptors for use in identifying characteristics of a further population of biological objects which are similar to those of the target population. | 09-11-2008
Method of Processing an Image - A method of processing an input image produces an output image emphasising peak-like structures. The input image comprises input pixels and each input pixel has an intensity characteristic. The output image comprises corresponding output pixels and each output pixel has a value. The method comprises the step of calculating for an input pixel the second derivative of the intensity characteristic in two orthogonal directions, one of the directions being the direction of maximum curvature. The product of the two second derivatives is calculated and the value of the output pixel corresponding to the input pixel is determined in dependence on the product. | 10-16-2008
