20100274893METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING AND LIMITING FOCUSED SERVER OVERLOAD IN A NETWORK - Computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, are described for detecting and limiting focused server overload in a network. A feedback message is received from a downstream server, wherein the feedback message includes a communication protocol statistic. The methods and apparatuses determine which of one or more counters that store a number of feedback messages received that include the statistic, from an array of counters, are associated with the downstream server using one or more hash functions based on information included in the feedback message. The one or more counters are incremented in response to the feedback message including the statistic. Using the one or more hash functions, a value of the number stored in the one or more counters is determined. The value is determined to be indicative of an overload episode in the network for the downstream server based on whether the value satisfies a predetermined criteria.10-28-2010

20090013078Optimized Signaling Protocol, Including Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), in a Communications Environment - A redacted version of a signaling protocol, such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), is used to optimize call session communications between a communications terminal and a proxy server. During a session registration process, the proxy server captures and stores session context data by leveraging the content of the registration messages. With the session context data stored at the proxy server, the messages between the proxy server and the communications terminal may omit some or all of the session context data. For outgoing messages, a proxy server receives a redacted signaling message from the communications terminal, reconstructs a standard signaling message from the redacted signaling message, and forwards the reconstructed message to a recipient. For incoming messages, the proxy server receives a standard signaling message, redacts the standard message to remove some or all of the session context data, and forwards the redacted message to the communications terminal.01-08-2009
20090137227Federated Virtual Network of Communications Services - A federated virtual network enables the creation of a logical network from multiple physical communications networks that each provide one or more communications services. The communications networks register their service capabilities with a network resources register. Users may then request from their networks a particular type, capability, and/or capacity of a network service using their communication devices. If the service requests are authorized, the network resources register maps the requestor's communication device to one or more network services offered by another network. Verifying the authorization may be performed by consulting an independent entity, which thus acts as a gatekeeper for the services. In this way, communications networks can expand their services and coverage by dynamically tapping into other networks' assets, on the fly and on an ad hoc basis (e.g., in case of emergencies, traffic peaks, or whenever additional services are needed).05-28-2009

20100198616Computerized system and method for rapid data entry of past medical diagnoses - The present invention relates to a system and method for electronic and algorithmic data mining of an individual physician's prescribing history to determine the approximate distribution of diseases within their practice population for optimizing pharmaceutical sales and marketing. Rapid and large-scale determination of specific clinical safety and efficacy attributes of a marketed drug which are most pertinent and relevant to a given physician, when compared to a competitor's drug, are defined and tabularized. Major clinical characteristics taken into account include a drug's safety, efficacy, cost, dosing convenience, formulary insurance coverage, side effect profiles, and FDA approval for the intended use. A symbolic representation of knowledge is employed in which the marketed drug and each competitor's drug are compared algorithmically against each other with a scoring system that is based upon machine analysis of each major clinical characteristic. The score is further refined according to the number and severity of safety interactions which are relevant to the comparison, and also based upon predicted prevalence of such interactions within a specific physician's practice.08-05-2010

20090128250POWER LINE TRANSMISSION - A device including an element for receiving an electrical signal comprising a high-frequency data signal component and a low-frequency power supply component. The electrical signal is conveyed in an electrical cable of an electrical installation. The device further includes impedance matching operative in a band of frequencies of the high-frequency signal component, the impedance matching being determined as a function of one or more characteristics of the electrical cable. Such a device can be integrated into a socket outlet or an electrical device or take the form of a socket adaptor.05-21-2009

20090236521METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ULTRAFAST PHOTOELECTRON MICROSCOPE - An ultrafast system (and methods) for characterizing one or more samples. The system includes a stage assembly, which has a sample to be characterized. The system has a laser source that is capable of emitting an optical pulse of less than 1 ps in duration. The system has a cathode coupled to the laser source. In a specific embodiment, the cathode is capable of emitting an electron pulse less than 1 ps in duration. The system has an electron lens assembly adapted to focus the electron pulse onto the sample disposed on the stage. The system has a detector adapted to capture one or more electrons passing through the sample. The one or more electrons passing through the sample is representative of the structure of the sample. The detector provides a signal (e.g., data signal) associated with the one or more electrons passing through the sample that represents the structure of the sample. The system has a processor coupled to the detector. The processor is adapted to process the data signal associated with the one or more electrons passing through the sample to output information associated with the structure of the sample. The system has an output device coupled to the processor. The output device is adapted to output the information associated with the structure of the sample.09-24-2009
