20110150060Voltage Margin Monitoring for an ADC-Based Serializer/Deserializer in Mission Mode - Various embodiments herein include one or more of systems, methods, software, and/or data structures to determine voltage margin for a high-speed serial data link. Advantageously, the margin determination may be made during normal operation of the data link (“mission mode”) such that the performance of the data link is not affected by the voltage margin measurements. That is, the margin measurements may be performed “on line” rather than “off line.” To facilitate the voltage margin measurement, a plurality of digital samples from an analog to digital converter (ADC) may be evaluated to determine the most probable bit values (i.e., digital 1's and 0's) that are represented by the digital samples. Then, a method may be used to remove or compensate for ISI effects from one or more of the digital samples, thereby providing an accurate representation of the voltage margin present in a data link. Subsequently, the voltage margin may be periodically monitored over time to detect degradation of the data link.06-23-2011

20100262968Execution Environment for Data Transformation Applications - The execution environment provides for scalability where components will execute in parallel and exploit various patterns of parallelism. Dataflow applications are represented by reusable dataflow graphs called map components, while the executable version is called a prepared map. Using runtime properties the prepared map is executed in parallel with a thread allocated to each map process. The execution environment not only monitors threads, detects and corrects deadlocks, logs and controls program exceptions, but also data input and output ports of the map components are processed in parallel to take advantage of data partitioning schemes. Port implementation supports multi-state null value tokens to more accurately report exceptions. Data tokens are batched to minimize synchronization and transportation overhead and thread contention.10-14-2010
20110004880System and Method for Data Transformation using Dataflow Graphs - A system and method for managing data, such as in a data warehousing, analysis, or similar applications, where dataflow graphs are expressed as reusable map components, at least some of which are selected from a library of components, and map components are assembled to create an integrated dataflow application. Composite map components encapsulate a dataflow pattern using other maps as subcomponents. Ports are used as link points to assemble map components and are hierarchical and composite allowing ports to contain other ports. The dataflow application may be executed in a parallel processing environment by recognizing the linked data processes within the map components and assigning threads to the linked data processes.01-06-2011

20090064163Mechanisms for Creation/Deletion of Linear Block Address Table Entries for Direct I/O - The present invention provides mechanisms that enable application instances to pass block mode storage requests directly to a physical I/O adapter without run-time involvement from the local operating system or hypervisor. In one aspect of the present invention, a mechanism is provided for handling user space creation and deletion operations for creating and deleting allocations of linear block addresses of a physical storage device to application instances. For creation, it is determined if there are sufficient available resources for creation of the allocation. For deletion, it is determined if there are any I/O transactions active on the allocation before performing the deletion. Allocation may be performed only if there are sufficient available resources and deletion may be performed only if there are no active I/O transactions on the allocation being deleted.03-05-2009
20090070481Method and Apparatus for an Improved Bulk Read Socket Call - An apparatus and method for an improved bulk read socket call are provided. With the apparatus and method, a new field, so_rcvlen, is added to the socket structure that identifies the bulk read size requested by the user. The kernel of the prior art recv( ) function is also modified so that it sets the so_rcvlen to the size requested by the user prior to the recv( ) function going to sleep and waiting for the full data size requested by the user. A new flag, SP_MSGWAITALL, is also provided in the socket structure. In the TCP input processing, when data is received for a particular socket, the current setting of the SP_MSGWAITALL is checked. If the SP_MSGWAITALL flag is set, it is determined whether the amount of data stored in the socket receive buffer is less than the value of so_rcvlen. If not, the TCP input processing does not wake up the recv( ) thread. However, for every alternate segment, the TCP input processing sends back an acknowledgment (ACK). In the TCP output processing, when the SP_MSGWAITALL flag is set and the amount of data in the socket receive buffer is less than so_rcvlen, the full window is advertised. Once the TCP input processing determines that there is at least an amount of data in the socket receive buffer equal to the value of so_rcvlen, the TCP input processing will wake up the recv( ) thread and the SP_MSGWAITALL flag is reset.03-12-2009
20100082855ASSOCIATING PROCESS PRIORITY WITH I/O QUEUING - Input/output (I/O) requests generated by processes are typically stored in I/O queues. Because the queued I/O requests may not be associated with the processes that generated them, changing a process' priority may not affect the priority of the I/O requests generated by the process. Therefore, after the process' priority has been increased, it may be forced to wait for an I/O handler to service its I/O request, which may be stuck behind an I/O request generated by a lower priority process. Functionality can be implemented to associate the processes' priorities with the I/O requests generated by the processes. Also, reordering the queued I/O requests to reflect changes in the processes' priorities can ensure that the I/O requests from high priority processes are serviced before the I/O requests from low priority processes. This can ensure efficient processing and lower wait times for high priority processes.04-01-2010

20090125246Method and Apparatus for the Determination of Genetic Associations - Procedure and tool to determine genetic associations. The method allows to identify, without the need for predictive hypothesis, genes that influence, either individually or preferably collectively, the appearance of any phenotypic trait shared by several groups of individuals; groups in each of which the characteristic appears in a different context as they can be different diseases, a different reaction to the same treatment or different manifestations of the same disease. For each phenotypic context, a study is carried out of cases and controls, giving rise to associations of genes or combinations of genes with statistical significance. These associations are filtered, eliminating those that also appear when comparing controls versus controls. Of the remaining associations, those that have appeared in all the cases and controls are selected, preferably rationalized, and are validated by analysing their presence in larger groups.05-14-2009
