20090018279Method for controlling sheeting in gas phase reactors - Embodiments of the present invention relate to measuring and controlling static in a gas phase reactor polymerization. In particular, embodiments relate to monitoring carryover static in an entrainment zone during gas phase polymerization to determine the onset of reactor discontinuity events such as chunking and sheeting. Embodiments also relate to monitoring carryover static to determine the need for effective additions of continuity additives that minimize reactor static activity and thereby preventing discontinuity events.01-15-2009
20090198025Method for seed bed treatment before a polymerization reaction - In some embodiments, a method in which at least one continuity additive (“CA”) and a seed bed are pre-loaded into a reactor, and a polymerization reaction is optionally then performed in the reactor. In other embodiments, at least one flow improver, at least one CA, and a seed bed are pre-loaded into a reactor. Pre-loading of a reactor with a CA can significantly improve continuity of a subsequent polymerization reaction in the reactor during its initial stages, including by reducing sheeting and fouling. The CA can be pre-loaded in dry form (e.g., as a powder), or in liquid or slurry form (e.g., as an oil slurry). To aid delivery of a dry CA to the reactor and combination of the dry CA with a seed bed in the reactor, the dry CA can be combined with a flow improver and the combination of CA and flow improver then loaded into the reactor. Alternatively, the CA and flow improver can be sequentially loaded into the reactor, and then mixed together (and mixed with a seed bed) in the reactor after both the CA and flow improver have been separately loaded into the reactor.08-06-2009
20100076164METHODS AND DEVICES FOR POLYMERIZATION - A method of treating a gas phase fluidized bed reactor and a method of polymerizing olefins in a gas phase fluidized bed reactor in the presence of a catalyst prone to cause sheeting by introducing a chromium-containing compound into the reactor and forming a high molecular weight polymer coating on the walls of the reactor. Furthermore, a device for and method of introducing the chromium-containing compound into the fluidized bed reactor at a plurality of locations in proximity to a lower section of a bed section wall of the fluidized bed reactor, and forming a high molecular weight polymer coating on the bed section wall.03-25-2010
20100184927METHODS FOR APPLYING SOLUTION CATALYSTS TO REACTOR SURFACES - A method for treating at least one interior surface (for example, a bed wall) of a fluidized bed polymerization reactor system, including by applying a solution catalyst (preferably at least substantially uniformly and in liquid form) to each surface, and optionally (where a catalyst component of the solution catalyst comprises at least one chromium containing compound) oxidizing at least some of the applied chromium containing compound in a controlled manner.07-22-2010
20110040041Polymerization Processes Using Metallocene Catalysts, Their Polymer Products and End Uses - A process for the production of an ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer is disclosed, the process including polymerizing ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin by contacting the ethylene and the at least one alpha-olefin with a metallocene catalyst in at least one gas phase reactor at a reactor pressure of from 0.7 to 70 bar and a reactor temperature of from 20° C. to 150° C. to form an ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer. The resulting ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer may have a density D of 0.927 g/cc or less, a melt index (I02-17-2011
20110077370CONTINUITY ADDITIVES AND THEIR USE IN POLYMERIZATION PROCESSES - The invention relates to catalyst compositions including at least one catalyst compound and at least one continuity additive such as poly-oxo-metal carboxylate compound and their use in the polymerization of olefins.03-31-2011

20080214385Catalyst composition and methods for its preparation and use in a polymerization process - The present invention relates to a catalyst composition and a method for making the catalyst composition of a polymerization catalyst and a carboxylate metal salt. The invention is also directed to the use of the catalyst composition in the polymerization of olefin(s). In particular, the polymerization catalyst system is supported on a carrier. More particularly, the polymerization catalyst comprises a bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst system.09-04-2008

20090279083METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATING THE START AND PROFILE OF A THREAD WITH A VISION-BASED SYSTEM - A system and method for identifying the start location of the lead thread and the thread profile and quality in a threaded bore in a part, where the system and method can be used for determining the location of the lead thread in a threaded bore in a cylinder head for a spark plug in one non-limiting embodiment. The system includes a moveable table on which the part is mounted. The system also includes a probe having an optical assembly that is inserted in the threaded bore. A camera uses the optical assembly to generate images of the thread bore, where the images are image slices as the probe moves through the threaded bore. The image slices are unwrapped and then joined together to form a planer image to determine a start location of the lead thread, thread count, defects in the threaded bore and thread profile parameters.11-12-2009
20090312863METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATING VALVE SEAT CHARACTERISTICS WITH A VISION-BASED SYSTEM - A system and method for inspecting a machined surface. The method includes acquiring optical information of the machined surface from a predefined orientation. Further, the method includes comparing one or more parameters of the optical information with a corresponding one or more reference parameters. Furthermore, the method includes assessing a quality of the machined surface based on the comparison.12-17-2009
20100230598SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VALVE SEAT GAP EVALUATION - A method of detecting a gap between a valve seat insert and a port in a cylinder head may include heating the valve seat insert and the cylinder head and generating a thermal image of the valve seat insert and the cylinder head at an interface between the valve seat insert and corresponding port in the cylinder head housing the valve seat insert. The thermal image may be evaluated to determine the magnitude of a gap between the valve seat insert and the cylinder head based on a temperature at the interface between the valve seat insert and the cylinder head.09-16-2010
