20090185192APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR USING A COUNTER-PROPAGATING SIGNAL METHOD FOR LOCATING EVENTS - An apparatus and method for using a counter-propagating signal method for locating events is disclosed. The apparatus and method uses a Mach Zehnder interferometer through which counter-propagating signals can be launched. If the sensing zone of the Mach Zehnder interferometer is disturbed, modified counter-propagating signals are produced and the time difference between receipt of those signals is used to determine the location of the event. A microcontroller receives feedback signals which adjusts polarisation controllers so that the polarisation states of the counter-propagating signals can be controlled to match the amplitude and/or phase of the output signals. Detectors are provided for detecting the modified signals.07-23-2009

20100011938Electronic System, Methods and Apparatus for Teaching and Examining Music - Electronic systems, methods and apparatus for teaching and examining music are presented. The method includes presenting a user with one or more musical tasks and providing a menu with one or more selectable icons. Selection of one of the icons activates functionality to enable the user to form an element of musical notation. The method includes comparing one or more characteristics of the element of musical notation with one or more predetermined thresholds in response to a user request and generating a mark, score or grade based on the result of the comparison.01-21-2010

20100095828Electronic System, Methods and Apparatus for Teaching and Examining Music - Electronic systems, methods and apparatus for teaching and examining music and other subjects require that tasks be performed by a user. One method includes presenting a user with one or more musical tasks and providing a menu with one or more selectable icons. Selection of one of the icons activates functionality to enable the user to form an element of musical notation. The method includes comparing one or more characteristics of the element of musical notation with one or more predetermined thresholds in response to a user request and generating a mark, score or grade based on the result of the comparison.04-22-2010

20090318311COMMON PROTEIN SURFACE SHAPES AND USES THEREFOR - A method of determining common three-dimensional structural features of protein surfaces is provided, as is use of representations of these common structures in molecular database searching and in designing focused molecular libraries. The method is particularly concerned with the analysis and representation of protein surfaces such as b-turns, loops and contact surfaces. In one form, the method identifies common locations and orientations of amino acid side-chains, simplified as Cα-Cβ vectors. In another form, the method identifies common regions of surface charge represented by grid points in three-dimensional space. Further provided are common three dimensional structural features of proteins that can be used to search molecular databases for the purposes of identifying molecules that match these common three dimensional structural features. The common three dimensional structural features can also be used to focus de novo molecular generation to produce libraries containing molecules that have these common three dimensional structural features. Libraries of these structurally-related molecules may then be produced for the purposes of drug discovery.12-24-2009

20100076886Trading Platform - This invention concerns a trading platform suitable for derivative and foreign exchange transactions between wholesale banking clients operating in the global financial markets. In particular, the invention concerns an interactive, automated computerized trading platform for regulating the buying and selling of all or part of orders listed on the platform by traders. Using the platform a trader (a broker or dealer) is able to enter an order that includes a (offer or bid) price visible to counterparties as well as one or more better prices that are hidden from counterparties. The trader is also able to interactively respond to visible (bid or offer) prices in counterparties' orders by changing the prices in their own order. And, the platform responds automatically to a counterparty's order that includes a visible price which matches a price, whether visible or hidden, in the trader's order, to facilitate a trade between them. In another aspect the invention concerns a method of operating an interactive, automated computerized trading platform. In a further aspect the invention concerns a computer program product.03-25-2010
