20100305687NON-WOVEN MAT AND METHO OF PRODUCING SAME - A mat having a highly uniform porosity distribution is produced by consolidating 15 or more layers of melt blown webs (or the like) having different orientations. Control over the porosity is provided by using webs that exhibit a narrow, unimodal distribution of fiber diameters over the bulk of its distribution, such as in the top 80%. A compliance of the mats can be chosen by selecting a number and orientation of the webs. It is thus possible to produce mats that are good candidates for vascular grafts, for example. The uniformity of the porosity within the range of 6 μm to 30 μm permits seeding of the vascular graft with endothelial and smooth muscle cells. The mats have the demonstrated ability to retain, and support growth of, smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells.12-02-2010

20080231304Apparatus and method for controlling temperature in a chuck system - An apparatus and method of controlling the temperature of a thermal chuck system are disclosed. The system includes a temperature controller which controls a temperature transition in a thermal chuck. The temperature controller comprises inputs that receive air and fluid from an air source and water source, respectively, and an output for alternately transferring the air and fluid in proportions to the thermal chuck. A time proportional controller generates the proportions by computing a proportion band in each of a plurality of control regions. The proportion bands are used by the temperature controller to manage the flow of air and fluid to the chuck such that a minimum undershoot of the temperature transition is realized.09-25-2008

20090304592TREATMENT OF METASTATIC TUMORS - The present invention is directed to methods and methods for the treatment, inhibition and/or reduction, and detection of metastatic tumors. In some embodiments, the inventive methods include systemic (e.g., intravenous) administration of a chlorotoxin agent that may or may not be labeled. In some embodiments, the inventive methods allow treatment, inhibition and/or reduction, and detection of metastases in the brain. In some embodiments, neovascularization is inhibited and/or newly formed vessels are caused to regress.12-10-2009
20110027177INHIBITION OF ANGIOGENESIS - The present invention is directed to novel methods of inhibiting angiogenesis using chlorotoxin agents. In some embodiments, the inventive methods include intravenous, intraocular, intravitreal, subjunctival injection, and/or topical administration of a chlorotoxin agent that may or may not be labeled. In some embodiments, the inventive methods allow treatment and/or amelioration of ocular diseases characterized by neovascularization, such as wet macular degeneration. In some embodiments, neovascularization is inhibited and/or newly formed vessels are caused to regress.02-03-2011
20110091380CHLOROTOXINS AS DRUG CARRIERS - The present invention relates to the use of a toxin moiety (e.g., a chlorotoxin moiety) as a carrier for therapeutic agents, e.g., therapeutic agents that require intracellular uptake to exert their effects. For example, in some embodiments, the present invention provides conjugates comprising a toxin (e.g., a chlorotoxin) moiety and an anti-cancer moiety and methods for using such conjugates to increase cellular uptake and/or increase specificity for cancer cells of the anti-cancer drug. In some embodiments, the present invention provides conjugates comprising a toxin moiety (e.g., a chlorotoxin moiety) and a nucleic acid agent. Also provided are methods of treatment involving administration of such conjugates, and pharmaceutical compositions and kits useful for carrying out such methods of treatment.04-21-2011
