20080206755 | Method for genetic detection using interspersed genetic elements - The way to design a “filled” site (which contains an interspersed element) primer set to target a particular locus is to design one of the two primers such that it encompasses that unique information (e.g., interspersed element+flanking genomic sequence+direct repeat). The way to design an “empty” site primer is to design one of the two primers such that the entire direct repeat sequence in addition to flanking genomic sequence is included on both sides. To improve efficiency, the “empty” site primer designed around the direct repeat should not be too long. This primer design of the present invention allows for the ability to test any type of interspersed genetic element containing characteristic direct repeat sequences (direct repeats). This gives the option of many new polymorphic marker sites because Alu elements are not the only interspersed genetic elements having direct repeats flanking their core sequence. | 08-28-2008 |

20110258927 | Garden waterbed - The Garden Waterbed is constructed of a durable tube of flexible UV protected material. The ends of the tube have been sealed, enabling it to hold water. Circular holes have been cut out and sealed down the center length of the tube, at regular intervals. A valve is installed at one end of the tube, allowing water to be filled into the large single chamber and hold it with a tight seal. There are multiple purposes of the Garden Waterbed. The water bed's intended use is; to be rolled out in a agriculture environment or garden area, to be filled with water, and to have plants buried in the soil within the growth units. The surrounding water increases the thermal mass surrounding the plants in the circular holes. The thermal mass absorbs the suns energy and increases soil temperature, thus increasing the growing season and boosting production. The opaque plastic stops sunlight from reaching the ground and eliminates weeds and undesirables from competing with your crop. At the same time insulating the ground and shading the soil, decreasing crop water consumption and increasing earthworm populations, increasing overall cleanliness of the subject grown, and increasing disease and insect infestation protection. The flexible design allows for quick and easy installation and roll away storage. | 10-27-2011 |

20090174190 | INDUCED SURFACE FLOW WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER - A wave energy conversion device that employs a submerged horizontally-aligned structure provided with a central opening formed in a horizontally extending surface, focuses wave induced water-particle motion, resulting in a flow into and away from the central opening, and a turbine is mounted in the central opening to be driven by this flow of water. Preferably the operation of this device occurs in a structural submerged depth of less than one-half wavelength of waves in the region. In a preferred embodiment, the flow through the central opening is bidirectional, and a self-rectifying turbine is used for unidirectional rotation. In an alternative embodiment, unidirectional check valves are used to direct water flow to a unidirectional turbine. Guide vanes are used to direct the flow inward towards the opening and can also be used to induce swirl in the flow field. When constructed axisymmetrically, the device can generate power from waves coming from any direction. The device may have multiple turbines arranged within it, or multiple units can be built into an array for power generation. The device may be mounted on supports fixed to the sea floor for shallow-water applications, or may be a floating submerged structure moored to the ocean floor for deep-water applications. | 07-09-2009 |
20120124986 | BIDIRECTIONAL AXIAL FLOW TURBINE WITH SELF-PIVOTING BLADES FOR USE IN WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER - A bidirectional axial flow turbine with self-pivoting blades is provided for use in a central opening of submerged horizontally-aligned structure forming a wave energy conversion device. Entry and exit inner guide vanes are positioned on opposite sides of the vertically-aligned central opening, for directing the bidirectional fluid flow into and out of the central opening and inducing a vortex swirl in both directions of fluid flow that has the same direction of rotation. Within the opening, a turbine hub is mounted with a plurality of uniformly spaced self-pivoting blades that have a symmetrical blade profile to the bidirectional flow. The self-pivoting blades automatically change their blade angle in response to the force of water flow on the blades, so that they turn the turbine shaft in the same rotational direction in both flow directions. | 05-24-2012 |

20090050799 | Transition molding - An apparatus and method for measuring low or trace concentrations of compounds and mixture of gases. A method and apparatus of the invention permits separating ions of different mobilities by passing them through an abrupt change or step in electric field magnitude. By using the separation method, the compounds of interest may be measured with less interference from other compounds of the gas mixture, which reduces or eliminates the need for prior separation of the components of the gas mixture. Several embodiments of the invention are described including the use of current amplifiers on one, or more, parts of the apparatus. While a single screen can provide a chamber which is divided into two regions of different electric fields, it is within the scope of the invention to include multiple screens to provide several steps in the electric field permitting it to be possible to trap and measure ions with successively higher mobilities. The gases used include halogenated compounds, including fluorocarbons, and most preferable SF | 02-26-2009 |

20110184576 | ROBUST AUTOMATED HIERARCHICAL DETERMINATION FOR POWER MONITORING SYSTEMS - An automated hierarchy classification algorithm that searches for a child monitoring device's parent in a utility monitoring system by segmenting the device data measured by a given device pair and calculating a segment correlation coefficient for each data segment. Devices to be placed in the hierarchy are filtered by calculating the variance of their device data and eliminating devices with a low variance. Devices are ranked by computing the sum of squares of their device data and ordering the devices accordingly from highest to lowest. The device data is segmented and segment correlation coefficients are averaged to produce an overall correlation coefficient. Criteria are evaluated to determine whether a device pair is linked. A correlation coefficient is calculated using the complete data series of a device pair, and the solution produced by this approach is compared with the solution produced by segmenting the device data. If the solutions disagree, a likely candidate is determined from a fuzzy logic module. | 07-28-2011 |

20110011947 | GEL AIR FRESHENER AND METHOD OF UNSEALING SUCH GEL AIR FRESHENER - The present invention is a gel air freshener article of manufacture comprising a gel air freshener composition and a container that provides a method for unsealing and opening without undue exertion by the consumer. The article of manufacture according to the present invention includes the gel air freshener composition and a container comprising a base portion and axially displaceable cover in telescopic registry, wherein the cover is axially displaced away from the base portion by rotation. The unsealing of the container is achieved through the coordination of camming locks, which comprise an upper ramped surface, with spike-shaped locking wedges that comprise a beveled toe portion, elongated shaft portion and camming head portion. Rotation of the cover in a first direction relative to the base portion locks the toe end and shaft portions of the spike-shaped locking wedges beneath the camming locks. Rotation in a second opposite direction relative to the base portion backs the camming head portion of the spike-shaped wedges up the upper ramped surfaces of the camming locks such that the cover is axially distanced from the container, thus unsealing the cover from the base and breaking loose the gel air freshener composition bound inside surface of the cover. An optional pin-hole in the cover allows for pressure equalization of the momentary vacuum created when the cover is first unsealed and displaced. | 01-20-2011 |
