20100092257 | CUTTING TAP AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME - A cutting tap includes a body having an axial forward end and an axial rearward end and a central longitudinal axis. The body has a fluted section at the axial forward end. The fluted section includes a chamfered fluted section extending from the axial forward end of the body and terminating at a first full cutting thread. The chamfered fluted section includes a first cutting thread located a first distance from the axial forward end of the body, and a second cutting thread located a second distance from the axial forward end of the body. The second distance is greater than the first distance. The chamfered fluted section is shaped such that a thickness of a section of material removed by the second cutting thread is smaller than a thickness of a section of material removed by the first cutting thread. A method of making the cutting tap is also disclosed. | 04-15-2010 |
20120295519 | CUTTING TAP AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME - A method of making a cutting tap includes the steps of: grinding a blank to form a threaded body portion at an axially forward end of the cutting tap, grinding one or more flutes in the threaded body portion to form cutting edges; grinding the threaded body portion to form a first cutting thread and a second cutting thread, the first cutting thread at a first distance from the axially forward end of the cutting tap, and the second cutting thread at a second distance from the axially forward end of the cutting tap; and grinding a chamfer in the threaded body portion such that a thickness of a section of material removed from the second cutting thread is smaller than a thickness of a section of material removed from the first cutting thread during a tapping operation. | 11-22-2012 |
20130236260 | CHIP-RESISTANT CUTTING TAP - A cutting tap includes a body having an axial forward end and an axial rearward end. The body has a threaded body portion with spiral flutes adjacent the axial forward end, a cylindrical shank portion adjacent the axial rearward end. The threaded body portion includes a chamfered fluted section and a constant diameter section. The threads have a chamfer relief extending radially inward from the cutting edge to a heel of a land. The amount of chamfer relief reaches a maximum value at a point between the cutting edge and the heel, and then becomes smaller between the point of maximum relief and the heel of the land to provide a clearance that reduces the propensity of the tap to chip. | 09-12-2013 |

20120223042 | SYSTEM, METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR LIFTING A COMPONENT FROM A HELICOPTER IN THE FIELD - A collapsible component lift for removal and replacement of, for example, a helicopter engine or transmission in a remote location. The lift includes a mast, boom, adjustable support arm and winch. The mast is supported substantially vertical and stands next to the failed helicopter. The boom extends outwardly, over the helicopter during removal and replacement of the component (e.g. engine, transmission) and swivels away from the helicopter to access the component. A strap and winch provide lifting force. An adjustment arm connects between the mast and the boom, forming a triangle with the mast and boom. The collapsible component lift disassembles into component sections that are short enough to be transported in a maintenance helicopter that is flown to the site of the failed helicopter. Preferably, a carrying case is provided for the transportation of the individual components. | 09-06-2012 |

20080235952 | Heated line cutter and whipper - An exemplary embodiment providing one or more improvements includes a heated blade for cutting a synthetic line or rope as well as heated sealing cylinders for sealing the cut or raw ends against raveling. The cutter can accommodate lines of a variety of diameters. The cutter is powered by a rechargeable battery and is portable and safe for use in a marine environment. Other embodiments seal the raw ends by shrinking a heat-shrinkable tubing over the raw ends. | 10-02-2008 |
