20100240229 | SLIDING WINDOW MAGNETIC ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR - An electrical connector for supplying electrical power from a fixed member to a movable member that moves with respect to the fixed member, the movable member bearing an electrical load. The electrical connector has a first connector part fixed to the fixed member and connected to a source of electrical power. A second connector part is fixed to the movable member and is connected to the electrical load. The first connector part and second connector part are movable into electrical engagement when the movable member is moved adjacent the fixed member. The first connector part has a first housing, a movable enclosure in the housing, having first external electrical contacts, and a movable carriage bearing second electrical contacts. The movable carriage has first magnets or magnet attractive components, the second contacts being movable with the carriage by a first magnetic force into electrical engagement with the first contacts and being retracted away from the first contacts by a second force. The second connector part has a second housing and second magnets or magnet attractive components and has third electrical contacts for electrically engaging with the first contacts. The first magnetic force is generated when the first and second connector parts are disposed adjacent each other by the interaction of the first magnets or magnet attractive components and the second magnets or magnetic attractive components thereby to move the movable carriage to allow the first and second contacts to come into electrical engagement. When the second connector part is moved away from the first connector part, the first magnetic force ceases to act on the movable carriage and the movable carriage is retracted by the second force whereby the first contacts are electrically disengaged from the second contacts and the first contacts are disconnected from the source of electrical power. The movable enclosure has a limited range of motion in at least two directions defining its contact surface thereby to facilitate alignment of the first and third contacts. | 09-23-2010 |

20100198101 | NON-INVASIVE LOCATION AND TRACKING OF TUMORS AND OTHER TISSUES FOR RADIATION THERAPY - Embodiments herein provide a non-invasive tracking system that accurately predicts the location of tumors, such as lung tumors, in real time, while allowing patients to breathe naturally. This is accomplished by using Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT), in conjunction with spirometry, strain gauge and infrared sensors, and by using sophisticated patient-specific mathematical models that incorporate the dynamics of tumor motion. With the direction and speed of lung tumor movement successfully tracked, radiation may be effectively delivered to the lung tumor and not to the surrounding healthy tissue, thus increased radiation dosage may be directed to improving local tumor control without compromising functional parenchyma. | 08-05-2010 |

20110006179 | Pivoting support structure - This invention is to an apparatus and method using a pivoting support structure to support mail boxes, newspaper tubes, information signage or decorative materials near a road while being less susceptible to damage from passing vehicles. The invention may be attached to a post, pipe or other vertical structure. Even after the apparatus is installed, the invention has an inherent flexibility to change the original starting position of the mail box relative to the road. Furthermore, the invention acts as a self-centering hinge allowing the support structure to swing in excess of 90-degrees to 180-degrees depending upon installation even while supporting single or multiple mailboxes and/or decorative or aesthetic items. The invention then automatically returns the mail box to its original starting position through the cooperative effort of a spring, gravity and inherent hinge design. This invention allows the structure to be temporarily cantilevered away from the vertical structure to assist in item placement or removal and allows the items such as mail to be removed without standing in traffic. | 01-13-2011 |

20120031543 | WATER-RESISTANT PLYWOOD SUBSTITUTES MADE FROM RECYCLED CARPETS OR TEXTILES - A method is disclosed for using discarded carpet segments or other recycled textiles to make wood-like material in sheets that are comparable to plywood. The carpet segments or other recycled materials are shredded, then layered across a slow-moving conveyor to form a thick, low-density belt of fibers. This belt is compressed between rollers, and then needle-punched, using needles with surface barbs that pull fibers downward and upward. This needle-punching causes fibers inside the mat to be pulled into vertical alignment (i.e., perpendicular to the top and bottom surfaces of a horizontal mat), to form a needle-punched mat that will hold together without chemical adhesives. A binder material is then applied to at least one and possibly both surfaces of the mat, by means such as spreading or spraying a liquid binder on either or both surfaces of the mat, or stretching a continuous film of the binder material across either or both surfaces of the mat. The polymer-coated fiber mat is then compressed while the binder hardens and cures, to form hardened wood-like product, in sheet form, without requiring melting of the nylon or other synthetic fibers inside the material. In an alternate embodiment, nylon fibers blended with polypropylene or other polyolefins can be heated and compressed to a temperature which (i) melts the polypropylene, causing it to act as an adhesive, and (ii) creates a “heat set” in the nylon fibers. These materials are strong, durable, highly resistant to cracking or splitting, and highly resistant to water infiltration or damage, and offer highly useful substitutes for plywood, particleboard, and other forms of wood and lumber. | 02-09-2012 |
