20090182322 | Bipolar modular forceps modular arms - The bipolar modular forceps assembly is a disposable electrosurgical device utilized with an RF voltage supply to weld soft tissue to prevent bleeding when cut or excised. The device consists of two modularly constructed arms arranged in scissor configuration that clamp when the arms are apart and open when the arms are squeezed together. The wires enter from the rear of the device, behind the digit insertion of the upper arm, and run through the interior of the upper arm before reaching the pivot point. From the pivot joint, one wire continues to the bottom jaw and the other wire wraps around the pin bushing in the pivot joint and proceeds to the top jaw. At all times the wires are fully insulated by the insulative cover with the only exposed wire occurring where they enter the device. The bipolar voltage of each wire is transferred to an electrode on each jaw. The electrodes are insulated from surrounding tissue by the insulative jaw, which contains visible markings showing the beginning, middle and end of the electrode. Both the insulative jaw and the electrode are interchangeable and made from moldable material to allow for different sizes and shapes. When no voltage is applied the tool can be used as a blunt dissector. | 07-16-2009 |

20110001482 | Electromagnetic Survey Using Naturally Occurring Electromagnetic Fields as a Source - Methods and related systems are described for measuring naturally occurring electromagnetic fields both at the earth's surface as well as downhole. These fields originate from currents in the ionosphere above the earth, and are the same fields as employed by known magnetotelluric geophysical methods based on surface measurements. Some embodiments are especially useful in horizontal wells that are uncased at depth, although some embodiments are also useful in normal vertical wells that are both uncased or cased with a conductive liner. The method includes receiving downhole electromagnetic survey data of the naturally occurring electromagnetic fields obtained using a downhole receiver deployed at a first location in a borehole. A second set of electromagnetic survey data of the naturally occurring electromagnetic fields is also received that has been obtained using a receiver deployed at a second location. A transfer function is estimated between the first and second locations for portions of the electromagnetic fields based on the two sets of electromagnetic survey data. | 01-06-2011 |

20100052633 | MODIFIED CURRENT SOURCE (MCS) WITH SEAMLESS RANGE SWITCHING - A current source is provided with two resistor banks, and digital potentiometers are used to control how much each resistor bank affects the resulting output current. Furthermore, when the digital potentiometers are at a particular setting such that a particular resistor bank does not affect the resulting output current (i.e., the resistor bank is “inactive”), the resistance of that resistor bank can be switched without affecting the output current, thus minimizing or eliminating discontinuities in the output current during a current sweep operation. Thus, for example, when a resistor bank meets its threshold and becomes inactive, the resistance of the inactive resistor bank may be switched, and then the digital potentiometer setting may be changed to facilitate smoothly reactivating that resistor bank, with the new resistance. | 03-04-2010 |
