20120099812 | ELECTRO-OPTIC DEVICE - An electro-optic device is disclosed, in which an RF signal electrode is used as a bias ground electrode. Thus, for Z-cut lithium niobate electro-optic crystals, there is no need to place a buried bias electrode under the RF signal electrode and over the optical waveguide. As a result, both optical and the RF wave propagation losses are reduced. In another embodiment, a buried bias electrode is placed over the optical waveguide between two buffer layers having a different electrical conductivity. The buffer layer underneath the buried bias electrode has a larger electrical conductivity than the buffer layer above the buried bias electrode. The buffer layer underneath the buried bias electrode reduces the optical loss penalty due to the buried bias electrode located above the optical waveguide, while the buffer layer above the bias electrode reduces leakage currents. | 04-26-2012 |

20080317657 | Systems and methods for capturing, isolating and sequestering carbon from CO2 in the atmosphere in the form of char produced from biomass feedstock - The invention is a system and methods whereby biomass is gasified in a reactor vessel producing carbon char for the purpose of sequestering that char in soil, thereby reducing the carbon in the atmosphere. The invention relies on a renewable source for the biomass and a dedicated land area for sequestering the carbon char. The process in the reactor vessel is monitored and controlled to produce char with characteristics beneficial to the soil in which it is sequestered and to the plants growing in that soil. The net affect is “Carbon Negative.” The process returns only part of the carbon in the process feedstock to the atmosphere, thereby reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide in proportion to the amount of carbon char sequestered in the soil. The process produces a gas by product that may be burned for heat or used as a feedstock for other processes. | 12-25-2008 |

20110053139 | Detection of bioagents using a shear horizontal surface acoustic wave biosensor - Viruses and other bioagents are of high medical and biodefense concern and their detection at concentrations well below the threshold necessary to cause health hazards continues to be a challenge with respect to sensitivity, specificity, and selectivity. Ideally, assays for accurate and real time detection of viral agents and other bioagents would not necessitate any pre-processing of the analyte, which would make them applicable for example to bodily fluids (blood, sputum) and man-made as well as naturally occurring bodies of water (pools, rivers). We describe herein a robust biosensor that combines the sensitivity of surface acoustic waves (SAW) generated at a frequency of 325 MHz with the specificity provided by antibodies and other ligands for the detection of viral agents. In preferred embodiments, a lithium tantalate based SAW transducer with silicon dioxide waveguide sensor platform featuring three test and one reference delay lines was used to adsorb antibodies directed against Coxsackie virus B4 or the negative-stranded category A bioagent Sin Nombre virus (SNV), a member of the genus Hantavirus, family Bunyaviridae, negative-stranded RNA viruses. Rapid detection (within seconds) of increasing concentrations of viral particles was linear over a range of order of magnitude for both viruses, although the sensor was approximately 50×10 | 03-03-2011 |

Devices that are located between the source and the intended target can act as routers with the ability to forward data packets toward the intended destination. In essence, a geocast network cloud is established, allowing any device within the cloud to communicate with any other device in the cloud. Devices in the network can constantly change position and the transmission path through the network can be constantly changing. The geocast protocol adapts to the changing conditions. | 06-20-2013 |

20120016940 | Geographic Based Logical Message Addressing And Delivery - A geographic addressing scheme is used to route a message from a sender to all devices occupying a specified geographic region. Message delivery and addressing are based on logical predicates being satisfied, wherein the logical predicates comprise a geographic region and at least one filter predicate. When a message is received by a device, the logical predicate is evaluated to determine if the requirements of the logical predicate are satisfied. In one configuration, a Boolean value (true or false) if determined. If the Boolean result is true, the message is provided to an appropriate application, or applications, residing on the device. If the Boolean result is false, the message is ignored silently. | 01-19-2012 |
