20090217537 | Novel advanced materials blades and cutting tools - A novel advanced materials blade has been invented. It is intended for use by professionals and other people who desire a high quality blade or other cutting tool. It offers many advantages, having an extraordinarily durable and long lasting edge and being tarnish free. The blade is composed of a superalloy from the cobalt-chrome-nickel ternary phase diagram; said blade having a body, and edge, and a tang. In an embodiment the blade edge is transmuted into a metallo-ceramic graded material using carbon to form carbides (-MC). These carbides are diffusion integrated into the superalloy, making this blade a graded material. In an additional embodiment the blase edge is atomically modified causing the excess carbon to form tetrahedral carbon (diamond). Applications of this novel advanced materials blade include professional chefs knifes, ice axe tools, and wood cutting axes. | 09-03-2009 |

An editor can tag a chunk as important based on the content of the chunk or may give the chunk a rating, or importance can be inferred from download statistics. In some embodiments, the end-user device determines the importance of a chunk based on observations of the behavior of the device's user. The end-user device can send its locally gathered behavioral observations to a server to enhance that server's demographic information. The server can observe its own download behavior to infer importance. The end-user device may choose to either not download, or to download at a low resolution, those chunks deemed to be unimportant, thus saving bandwidth and battery power. | 03-29-2012 |

20100032371 | Method and system for controlling biodegradation and temperature in an aerobic or anaerobic subsurface or partially enclosed waste mass - This invention is a new and useful method for controlling the temperature and biodegradation rate of an anaerobic or aerobic landfill or other enclosed or partially enclosed waste mass. The heat generated by a waste mass is carried away by air and moisture within the air resulting from evaporation of liquid within the waste mass as air passes through the waste mass. With the invention, the resulting exhaust gases are passed through a system acting as a heat exchanger and an exhaust gas director. During this process, the exhaust gases may be optionally vented to the atmosphere or to a processing system prior to passing through the portion of the system that acts as a heat exchanger; the exhaust gases may be vented to the atmosphere or to a processing system after passing through the heat exchanging portion; the exhaust gases may be recycled through the waste mass with no additional air or other gas introduced; or the exhaust gases may be amended by addition of air or other gases and then recycled through the waste mass. The process thus allows temperature control without changing the rate of biodegradation within the waste mass by circulating air that cools by carrying away vaporized liquids within the waste mass when such conditions are required. The process also allows temperature control simultaneously with biodegradation control by changing or removing entirely the oxygen content of the recirculated air. The device thus also alters the biodegradation rate and thereby allows raising, lowering, or maintaining the existing temperature within the waste mass. The major benefits of the invention are much more effective control of waste mass temperature and biodegradation, and substantially less power requirements and equipment costs to accomplish these benefits. | 02-11-2010 |

20100132747 | Thermal De-Scaling Surfaces With Cryogenic Liquids And Gases - Cryogenic fluids are used to remove contaminants such as hard scale deposits from heating and/or heat transfer equipment. The fluid may be cryogenically cooled to achieve a liquid phase and/or a mixture of liquid and gas phases. The fluid may also be pressurized. The mixture does not include a solid phase. A particle injection port is not required. The cryogenic fluid contacting the surface of a scale or other contaminant that has built-up during service of heating or heat exchanging equipment causes a near instantaneous contraction at the scale surface. Cracks form at the scale surface contacted by the cryogenic fluid. These cracks extend through the scale thickness to the underlying material of the equipment of the heating and/or heat exchanging component. The fractured surface scale separates by spalling or de-cohesion from the underlying equipment structure and is moved off the surface by the action of the exiting cryogenic fluid. | 06-03-2010 |

20080257062 | METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR STANDARDIZED CLASSIFICATION OF UNDERGARMENTS - The clamps of the present invention are initially placed apart with a specific separation to properly hold the garments in the constant rate of expansion (CRE) machine. The test method preferably uses panties that have been prepared according to specific test criteria and the CRE machine pre-programmed with specific parameters including the preload and the initial rate of extension. Before testing commences, the midpoint of an individual panty is placed at the center of the clamps. After a pre-determined resistance is sensed by the CRE machine, the rate of extension and the load instantly increase to test the panty's percent of elongation and modulus. This method is repeated for several styles and sizes of panties to obtain accurate, consistent elongation and modulus measurements for each style and size. These measurements thus categorize all of the measured styles and sizes into a standardized panty support classification system. | 10-23-2008 |

20110102938 | POWER MODE OPERATION OF A MAGNETIC TAPE DRIVE - A magnetic tape drive having a tape drive system for moving magnetic tape, tape read/write and servo system, tape cartridge load/unload systems, I/O communications, memory; and a control system, operates in three modes to conserve energy consumption. A first low power mode powers the I/O communications, the memory, and the control system. If a magnetic tape cartridge is in loaded position in the magnetic tape drive, the second low power mode powers the same as the first low power mode, and additionally powers the tape drive system to apply tension to a magnetic tape of the magnetic tape cartridge.
